Comments regarding Bluestone Perennials

After reading all (mostly) the good reviews about bluestone, I decided to try them for the first time. And who can resist their late spring 50%sale!? After I placed the order,they were very fast and efficient, my order was shipped in a timely manner. The plants were packed very nicely, I found only a few broken branches. The plants look incredibly healthy, I'm very happy with my plants but I only give neutral here because there are 5 plants still missing from the order. I've e-mailed the company but still await for the reply (it's weekend now) So I'll come back and fill it in later. I can't wait to change the rating to POSITIVE!

First time I ordered from this company. My order was late in arriving. When my order came/found after being sent byway of another zip code, the plants were very wilted and pretty sorry looking, After contact the company regarding their shape, Bluestone sent me replacements. These plants are doing just fine. Excellent customer service.

I again obtained some plants during the 50% off sale. Plants were healthy and in great condition!

I couldn't resist ordering when I saw their 1/2 price sale. I am really glad that I did. Not only were they shipped fast but the plants are all great looking, very healthy and seem no worse for wear from shipping in early June. They will definitely be getting more of my business, I would have been happy to have paid full price for these plants, 1/2 price is a steal!

I highly recommend Bluestone Perennials. It is a family-owned business and you can feel the difference. Season after season I have ordered from the company and have yet to be disappointed with the quality of plants received, very prompt delivery and excellent telephone customer service. It is clear the company is exceptionally well run.

The size of plants is standard for online nurseries, which is smaller than large-pot perennials you may find at local nurseries. But, the prices are substantially less, and smaller plants make for very reasonable shipping charges.

The most important factor with a perennial, no matter the size, is performance. Every plant I've received from Bluestone has thrived immediately. All plants have substantial root systems, generous stem structures and numerous leaves. The plants usually have been cut back a bit to protect them during shipping. This is an indication that the plants have been well cared for in the nursery and also prepares the plants for a big growth boost when placed in soil.

No minimum order is required, shipping is fast and although packaging involves filling the box with foam peanuts the ones used by the nursery are environmentally neutral. You can return your packing boxes and peanuts and receive free shipping on your next order.

Pricing of plants is usually for a set of three, which arrives in a special three-pack unit planter. This is a very good way to add a species to your garden as grouped plants always look better in a bed or border. A few perennials are offered as single, larger perennials and all shrubs ship as large singles.

A confirmation email is sent immediately upon placing an order, the message includes the shipping date. Once the order ships an email message is sent with a direct link to tracking information on the UPS Web site. From my experience, orders placed during normal planting times are received within a week to ten days.

Exceptional values are available during the season-end 50% sales that Bluestone offers. If your planting season allows, you should definitely take advantage. Last Saturday I ordered about $200 of plants and paid half that price. I received the order on Thursday! All plants are as healthy as those received earlier in the season.

When I placed the order I used a gift card that was not large enough to cover the total. I had hoped that check out process would ask for a different card for the balance, but the ordered closed out and I was worried that this would delay processing. I called the customer service department, but it is closed on weekends. On Monday morning I called and a very courteous operator solved the problem immediately.

Took advantage of their 2009 summer sale. Prices and plant quality were great. I'd previously thought of this nursery as a "northern gardeners" specialist, but I have found many plants that should do well in my zone9. They carry a wide variety for all zones so with a little research one will have no problems finding plants that will be sucessful in one's garden.

The plants I ordered were not end of season runts and I will be able to plant them directly inground w/ no additional babying. very good thing.

I ordered the pre-planned starter garden, I'm also an avid gardener that will spend too much money on local store plants that fail.

I received my plants around May 23, right on time! I thought they were going to be a lot smaller but to my surprise most of them were 4-5 inches high, and had buds already, one of the plants was at least 6-7 inches. I FOLLOWED all the directions of watering and care and now they are just huge, and happy plants at that. I'm extremely happy with my (very well priced) purchase and will do business with Bluestone again.

I have ordered numerous times from this company. My plants are always in excellent condition when I get them and very well packed. I just received a large order from them and was very happy with the plants I received. If anything dies, they are very quick to replace or give a refund. Bluestone Perennials is my very favorite place to buy plants from.

Have ordered from this company four times over the last year, each time ordering multiple plants. The orders placed during planting season shipped very quickly. The order I placed in February - first time I've preordered - arrived at the perfect planting time. The plants are well-packed (tons of styrofoam chips to cushion them) and moist. Although the plants are small, I actually prefer that - they're quick and easy to get in the ground. With the rocky soil in this area, small plants are a lot easier to get in the ground than bigger, more expensive ones from local nurseries. The tiny ones I planted last year are coming up beautifully this year.

On 1/26/09 I ordered 3 Gaillardia Goblin plants, 2 Jackmanii Clematis, 2 Pink Fantasy Clematis and 1 Salix Chaenomeloides (pussy willow). I got an email that said they shipped on 4/10/09 and I received them on 4/14/09 by UPS. They were a little small and a little root bound but they are all doing great. The Goblins are blooming nicely but the clematis and pussy willow are still too young to see any flowers. I hope they survive the winter as I am looking forward to watching them grow and flower next year. I do recommend this company and I will order from them again.

Packaging and health of plants satisfactory upon delivery.

This was my first time ordering from BluestonePerennials and so far am very pleased. I ordered dwarf achilleas and Verbena bonardensis. These came as tiny plants (which I expected) but looked very robust and vigorous and ready to take off once in the ground. The verbena is now over my head and blooming! The achilleas are being a little less rambunctious but doing well nonetheless.
This is my first experience with this company as I usually am able to find the perennials I need locally. I would DEFINITELY
do business with them again!

I put in a large order with Bluestone Perennial this year because I've had great service from them in the past. All of the plants arrived fresh and lush with absolutely no breakage or dried out pots. I'm very impressed with this company because everyone, from the customer service reps to the packers show obvious pride in doing a great job. I would definetly recommend this company to anyone looking for quality plants.

I placed an order from Bluestone early January 2009. I recieved my order at the perfect planting time in April. Every plant was in great shape. The phlox was blooming! The Astilbe was larger, as advertised. The packing peanuts kept the plants from being crushed or damaged. The plants all came in soil in their own cell pack. I followed the directions provided and have had wonderful success with every plant.

Bluestone plants are a little small, but they are healthy plants. I have ordered from other online places and have been very disapointed with the weak and puny sized plants that eventually died on me. .

Bluestone is awesome, and I will definately order again when old man winter gets the best of me.

I have ordered from Bluestone for four years now, and the plants and customer service are both excellent.

The plants they ship are healthy, well-formed, and actively growing, no matter what season I have ordered them in. Customer service is very well informed and helpful. I love the interesting coupons and promotions that they have year-round, and they have a terrific selection of interesting varieties that other places don't carry.

They score a perfect 10 in my book. It doesn't get any better.

For about two years or so, since I first discovered Dave's Garden, the "Top 30" always included Bluestone
Perennials.
As far as I'm concerned,Bluestone deserves to be rated as an excellent source for gardeners. Their perennials are quality products, and if something does go wrong, the company will replace it without question.
Their specials are very tempting and give the customer a chance to try something that may be unlike their usual choice.
My recent orders are already doing well, and I recommend Bluestone wholeheartedly.

They were very helpful answering my questions on the phone. One plant that I had conflicting info on, they researched and sent me an email right away. Plants were shipped exactly when I asked them to ship, and arrived in excellent condition, as if they had not spent any time in a box. I took advantage of several 50% off specials, which made it an excellent deal.
The only drawback for me is that most plants are sold in groups of 3, and as I have a small yard and pocketbook, I prefer to buy one plant per variety, but their specials made up for that. I'd definitely buy from them again.

I have ordered from Bluestone in the past and have not been disappointed. This year I ordered a large variety of perennials and all arrived safely with the exception of the Aruncus as the plant tops had been broken off during shipping. I called and the customer service agent said that they would replace them without question. I am waiting now for the replacements. They have great plant specials and in past years, although the plants are small to begin with they soon catch up and surpass some of the other plants ordered elsewhere. Their catalog also has a very good variety of plants.

I recently received an order of several plants from Bluestone. All arrived in good condition with well-developed root systems.
The plants from Bluestone are small but healthy and generally take off fast. My new achilleas have doubled in size in about 10 days!
I have been ordering from them for years and have always received nice, friendly customer service, fast resolution to any problem and timely delivery. Also love their wide variety.
I plan to place at least one more order this year.
Oh, there is one thing I don't like - the packing peanuts, grrrr.

I ordered six perennials. Bluestone shipped them extremely quick. I am very pleased with their prices & quality. They even sent coupons for me to use on future orders that I hope to use soon.

This is the second year I have ordered from Bluestone. This year I ordered Bluestone's Border Garden. They arrived safely and in great condition. When I planted them, they really start growing and get large quickly. These are really healthy plants! I recommended Bluestone so highly to my family that my mother and grandmother both ordered a preplanned garden. They called in their order, and they were both very pleased with how friendly the staff is.

I ordered the preplanned Gardens, Bluestone Perennial Border, in Mid April, 2009, the plants arrival in the week of April 20,2009, I am in Zone 6 . Two of the 60 plants received are rotted, probably because of overwater before shipping. I called them the next day, they said they would send replacement right away, they did. I am very happy with the customer service, all the plants are healthy now,the plants pack in the box received filled with popcorn package stuffs, very neat. Will definitely order from them again in the future.

I've ordered plants from Bluestone Perennials every year for the past 2-3 years. Again this year I was able to transplant my order from
plastic containers to garden with little or no stress to each plant.
They are all healthy and thriving. I will continue purchasing plants
from Bluestone as long as I have a place to put them!

I recently ordered a hosta (so sweet), buddleia (empire blue), and stokesia (purple parasols). Shipping was prompt, and the plants arrived in very nice condition. The stokesia looked a bit tired from the travel, but perked up once it was watered. All are doing beautifully, and I plan to order from this company again in the future!

I have ordered plants form Bluestone for several years now, and they are fantastic. Most plants arrive quickly and are healthy. More importantly than when things go right, though, is the excellent customer service offered on the rare occasion a plant does not arrive in good condition. They carry a wide selection of plants and offer plenty of information on what is right for your growing area. Bluestone is my favorite mail order nursery, by far.

this rating is really late . i got some boston ivy and some sale siberian iris in the fall . all was very healthy and didnt even look like it was shipped . both look great still and im happy

I just got my order from Bluestone, and was amazed... these are *by far* the best plants I've ever received via mail order. These were not little stumpy roots in bags of peat moss, instead they were actively growing plants, and despite being slightly wilt-y (what do you expect? How would you feel being in a box in a Fed Ex truck?) were just beautiful. Not only were the plants great, they also sent along coupons and a discount certificate for the next order, and, if you recycle the packing materials by sending it back to them, you get free shipping on your next order. WIN!!!

I recently ordered an Echinacea (Virgin) and a Lime Frost daylily from Bluestone. Order arrived in a very timely fashion. The Echinacea was a little on the small side, but so far it seems to be putting on new growth and doing well. The daylily was FANTASTIC! I pulled it out of the pot and was thrilled to see a huge mass of very healthy roots. I am sure it is going to do great!

I ordered many plants from Bluestone this spring. They were packaged nicely, and are doing well after a transplanting into the garden. I had one Baptisa die. I emailed them about it, and they promptly replied, and mailed me a new one with no charge. Great customer service great plants.

I placed a large order ($350.00) for flowers to fill three flower beds. My plants arrived in excellent condition with damp soil- I did have to deal with the peanuts they were packed in, but I will recycle them so it's not a problem. I knew from reading other reviews that the plants would be small, so I was prepared for that. But all the plants were very healthy and green, my order was correct and I got all the plants I ordered- no problems at all- a few of the plants have already started blooming. I will definitely be ordering from this company again.
