Comments regarding Hirt's Gardens (formerly Hirt's Greenhouse & Flowers)

I ordered the butterfly bush 'miss molly' from Hirt's over the weekend. I was a bit surprised to see the plant at my door in 3 days. I actually didn't expect to see the plant till much later in the week. It was obvious the plant was packaged rather carefully---soil was covered so as not to spill out, and "paper bag" material covered whole plant and box was filled with styrofoam filler. I watered the plant as soon as i released it from the box and the plant perked right up. All in all, a very positive experience. By the way, first time i have ordered a plant by mail.

I placed an order Monday night April 23, 2012. Recieved email that order was shipped Tuesday April 24, 2012. I said that was tooooo quick, must be a scam...oooooh no. I should have researched before ordering. Well to my SURPRISE!!!! My plants arrived Thursday April 26, 2012. Packed well. Only issue ,... the leaves on the lily of the valley were broken. I will contact Hirts for replacement, and post the response. Because of the QUICK transaction, I'm hoping for a positive response. I was really impressed with the packing, plants(minus the lily of the valley) and absolutley timely shipping. Total of six plants,,,keeping fingers crossed that all live a long and happy life with me. This was the second online nursery that I have ordered from, and based on this transaction I would order again.

I have to admit that I ordered from Hirt's before reading up on the company. Immediately after ordering I came here and wasn't feeling very good about my purchase because of all the bad reviews.

Luckily my order arrived within 48 hours so my worries were cut short! All of my plants arrived in beautiful condition- the best of any mail order plants I have ever purchased. They were larger than expected! I would expect to pay double for plants this size. Great selection of items, too! I originally went there for bunny tail grass seed and ended up purchasing many other items.

I will definitely be ordering from them again.

I have placed one order with them. Shipping was very reasonably priced and fast. I had a problem with my order that Matt immediately rectified. So two thumbs up for willingness to make sure the customer was satisfied.

I absolutely love Hirt's Gardens. I have had no problems with any of the plants or seeds I have purchased from them. They are prompt with shipping and plants are securely packaged and shipped as perishables.

I will continue to order from Hirt's and highly recommend them to other gardeners.

I just received 3 hardy hibiscus plants (and a packet of seeds) from this company. The plants were well packed and larger caliper than I had anticipated.

All 3 also have a nice compact head of healthy deep green leaves! Nothing remotely small or sickly about the bunch :)

Overall I am very happy with the new additions to my garden!

Feb 22, 2012 ordered Hirt's 2 Hardy Kiwi Plants - Actinidia - Ken's Red Female and Male on Amazon They were promptly shipped and I received them on March 1, 2012. The male was in excellent shape, the female has sickly looking leaves. Planted them and the male continued to prosper, the female didn't survive. I notified Hirt's of the problem, they requested pictures. They promptly notified me they were shipping a replacement plant and sent a tracking number. The second Ken's Red kiwi plant arrived with yellowish leaves that promptly fell off. I repotted it and placed it in a unheated greenhouse and it is doing well. I recommend them because hardy kiwi plants are very expensive and both the female and male plants with shipping were $26.37; also the Ken's Red kiwi is not a high vigor plant from all my reading on it.

I love ordering from this vendor. Such a variety of plants are available and prices are reasonable. And the shipping is unbelievably fast.

Over the last two years I have had numinous orders with Hirt's Garden. One order was for plants through their website and several seed orders through eBay and from their website and through Amazon.com.

The tomato and pepper plants they sent did not arrive in very good condition but they all survived and thrived. At the time I could not find the varieties I wanted anywhere else and it was a little late to start them from seed. For these reasons I was still pleased with the purchase.

As for seed orders. They have always shipped quickly and my germination rates have been good. I prefer to order their seeds through Amazon.com because on Amazon their shipping is lower at $ 0.79 per pack and if my order is over $ 5.00 shipping is free and I like free.

I ordered some Tri-Colored Cushaw seeds [for a friend] on Amazon, and Hirt's was the source. I received my seed within a week. Excellent service!
I kept six seeds for myself and sent the rest to my friend.

They're so big, and have such a varied list, that I was skeptical. But they had several indoor ferns I've been looking for, and a yellow clivia, all at quite good prices, so I thought I'd take the chance. Glad I did! The plants were sent fast, very carefully packed, and they're healthy and good sized. I'll definitely order there again.

I was somewhat shocked to read the negative comments here. I've just received what must be at least my 50th order from them in about 10 years and it arrived as usual, very healthy, of average or larger than average size, extremely well packaged and arriving in perfect condition, and it amazingly went from Ohio to my doorstep in Texas in 1-day! I'm a flower and herb gardener, I don't do many veggies, but I would not hesitate in the least to order anything from Hirt's. They have a great track record with me. Good luck and Happy Gardening!

Recently made a purchase through eBay. Item was shipped quickly, was well packed and was described accurately. I am happy with my purchase.

I have ordered plants from Hirts Gardens 3 consecutive years and each time I received 4 plants, well packed and in excellent condition. The plants were individually planted the customary 4-pack planter. Only once did I receive the plants with white flies. I sprayed them with a mixture (1 onion, 6 cloves garlic, puree in 1 qt. water) strain mixture and spray plants once daily. My plants are currently growing in the garden with dozens of peppers and they are extremely hot. No fake delivered to me. I plan to order plants again for planting in 2012.

I ordered several times from this company. I mostly ordered house plants. I got just what i ordered and a larger size than expected. I will order again from them. I read some of the negatives below. I feel you get what you pay for. I ordered from 'Cheap' nurseries and get small tiny plants and need a lot of tender loving care. One year wasted on bringing them up to other nursery standards if your lucky. However overall I got what i expected from them. I didn't have any problems to complain about so i don't know how they handle this.

I've ordered several plants from them, only had one that wasn't in good shape, but I really love my Dragon Palm Tree, it's leaves just keeps getting taller, also Lemon-Lime plant, and my Banana Dwart Tree- is upstanding, have also ordered seeds from them. I don't really have any complaints against them, ordered some from Amazon, also Ebay.from them. I would glady order from him again. I really like the way he packages his plants, I almost forgot, Picture carnivorus plant which is growing like crazy. I do what he said to do, water it with rain water some and distilled water. As far as I am concerned he packages plants the best.

50-50 is not really good odds, but I got lucky. They sent me two healthy Rosemary plants and both were boxed expertly. Also, I received in just a couple of days.

This was the best mail order I have had over the past year, and I order a lot of mail order plants. I ordered Summer Glory Sedum from another vendor and needed 2 dozen more. My previous vendor was out of stock so I found Hirtz's Gardens on Amazon. I was a bit reluctant to order through Amazon, but the order that arrived 2 days ago had all my plants, and they were in top condition. They were vastly superior to my previous order, which I wound up taking out as they were so weak looking in comparison. If this is Hirtz's normal standard, I will be ordering from them many times to come! An A+.

I ordered a Bay Laurel Tree (through Amazon, randomly) from Hirt's... it was shipped with lightning speed, was packaged very soundly, and the plant itself was in great shape.

I would absolutely buy from Hirt's again.

I ordered 4 Boston Ivy plants this past Friday, and here it is Wednesday and I just received 4 great looking plants. VERY pleased with the price overall and speed of shipping / delivery. Contrast this with the awful experience I had with Brighter Blooms (appalling).

Have ordered several plants this year (4 Gaura, 4 Russian sage) and most recently a variegated honeysuckle and a Black Lace sambucus. All were recieved very quickly and in excellent condition. Gaura and sage are now approx 2 to 3 foot tall, after two months. Honeysuckle is at least 12 inches up my fence and filling out nicely. The Sambucus has been in the ground only a week, but is doing fine. Their prices are very reasonable. Have not had a problem of any kind with this company. Will definitely buy from them again. They offer 10% discounts to return customers, love that.

I ordered quite a few different types of plants including iris, daylily, a shrub, peony, and other perennials. The only thing I received that I wasn't to impressed with was the lily bulbs I received. The lily bulbs are fine, they are just smaller than what I've received from other vendors. Otherwise, all the plants I received from Hirts are very healthy and good sized plants. I am very impressed with this company and will order from them again. Quick shipping, and packed well.

I placed a small order with Hirts 2 years ago. They had seeds I used to get from Thompson & Morgan before they sold out. I couldn't find the seeds anywhere else. Then, I didn't plant them until now because I moved. All the seeds (several different types) came up as though they were harvested yesterday. They were re-packaged and who knows how old, but they all came up. So I would order again if they had something I really wanted in spite of the reviews.

I purchased a male and female kiwi plant from Hirts through ebay. The price was excellent compaired to catalogs and they shipped quickly. Plants came in good condition and in the two weeks that I have had them they have taken off like a rocket. I am very pleased with this purchase.

My first order from Hirt's was placed a few weeks ago and included a Turkey Fig Tree, Vanilla Bean Orchid cutting, and Flowering Quince seeds. I was concerned about ordering from Hirt's because of the negative reviews, but the positive reviews won me over. Two of the fertilizers are back ordered, although one was sent yesterday.

I received my plants in excellent condition within two or three days of placing my order. They were packaged with exceptional care, and I was surprised to find a small animal warming pack had been included and placed near the base of the plants - it was still warm when I opened the box. I've never order plants in the dead of winter, and this unexpected care ensured my plants arrived alive and happy in sub-freezing temps. After a drink of warm water and several days on a plant heating pad with filtered light, I checked their health; I was thrilled to find I had not lost one leaf from the fig tree, and the orchid cutting was strong and firm in its pot. I've had both plants for almost two weeks and the travel stress is non-existent. The Quince seeds will not be planted for another sixty days, but I received detailed instructions on how to do it. I am very happy with my order, the promptness of the delivery, the health of the plants, and the extra steps taken to ensured the plants traveled with as little stress as possible.This was my first order with Hirt's, but it will not my last.

I ordered a packet of "Organic Merlot Looseleaf Lettuce - 450 Seeds" [ASIN: B001H9UOWC] through Amazon in October. Most of the seeds germinated well and are growing nicely. However, about 2/3 of the plants are NOT Merlot lettuce. I have photos of the flats which I can send by email. The plants are okay, but I specifically wanted merlot lettuce because it survived a very harsh winter in Atlanta with the use of row covers when it was below freezing. It got down into the teens or lower and stayed that way for extended periods of time. The merlot lettuce also lasted long into the spring before bolting. And of course it is pretty and healthful. The Merlot lettuce is a burgundy color, while the other is green with a different shaped leaf.

This is my second year buying plants from "Hirt's. I am totally pleased with the Quality and the size of the plants that I received. I will definetely buy from them again as long as they have the plants I am looking for. HazelCrestMikeB

Ordered Green Panda Bamboo and Bletilla striata from this seller. Had problems getting the bamboo ordered, wrote Hirt's an email and got a rapid response, allowing the ordering. Ordered the Bletilla at the same time and part of the above problem caused shipping to be charged for both. Hirt's refunded a more than fair share (without my asking) and shipped the two orders as one via the USPS 'No Weigh' shipping, express mail.

Bamboo arrived in beautiful condition, good price for the size.
Bletilla striata in great condition, healthy and good size for the price.

Very pleased with Hirt's Gardens and hope issues previously reported are now history.

This fall, I intentionally ordered the same plants from Hirt's and from Bluestone, (who I previously recieved fine plants from.) The plants were Anemone sylvestris and Heuchera.
Both orders arrvied quickly and in good condition. All the plants were growing in the same size pots. Although the Heucheras from Hirt's are considerably smaller, they appear healthy. The Anemones look exactally the same from both companys. Considering the price, (4/$10) I can only recommend Hirt's if you need a large quantity of small perrenials.

I wanted a replacement male arctic beauty kiwi for one that had died - the vendor was out for the year and my female seemed lonely :-) I found an inexpensive one on eBay sold by Hirt's. The feedback there was quite positive, so I ordered. The plant arrived quickly. It was relatively small, but healthy and is thriving.

i have purchased 4 different shipments of hibiscus plants. i must say, fast shipping, and plants were as promised on their site. i am very pleased with the condition i received them in, now it is up to me to grow them, so far so good. i will reorder again and again.

I was surprised to read the negative reviews on this company (I had done so after placing an order). I am thrilled to report that my shipment arrived within 3 days; plants were green, healthy, and the soil was still wet in the starter pack of Jamaican Scotch bonnets. The Chocolate habanero was still moist. Yes, the plants were taped down and packed in peanuts. However, as this was my first experience with shipped seedlings, I can only say it was adequate, as my seedlings were still in the pack and/or pot, and were undamaged. Transplant went fine. I am sure that the varieties ordered were the varieties received as everything else up to this point is great! I have never received an online shipment so quickly for such a reasonable cost!!!

I had found these people on Amazon, but the negative feedback led me not to order. However, they were still there after a couple years, and Amazon is pretty harsh to dud vendors, so I looked at their ratings, which were pretty good. So last week I ordered some things in 3-4 inch pots. They came quickly, were nicely grown but not potbound, and were packed well (Better than a Bluestone I order I got recently). Some were hosta, which matched the variety. Everything else is, well, green! This is the second plant source this year that has sent priority mail--this seems like the way to go, as I know it can go coast to coast in three days. I would order again, through Amazon, not eBay, which has its own set of problems. Frequently when I order perennials from Bluestone, the plants are so small I put them right together in the hole. I thought I would do this with Hirt's six foxglove package, but it looks like I need to start a second patch to hold the much bigger plants!

I ordered, via Amazon, 12 of their "black" and yellow tomatoes on Wednesday. Email to me indicated they were shipped the same day. They arrived on Saturday morning in Newark, NJ. Plants in fine shape. I reused the box with the Styrofoam peanuts to send out some glassware to a friend the same day! Although I ordered these before I read some of the negative comments on here, I can say my own experience was totally satisfactory. Now let's see if my green thumb proves to follow through!

I ordered plants from Hirts via Amazon, then I read the reviews and regreted placing the order after reading the negative ones. My order was placed on April 20, 2010, and I received the order today, April 23. The plants were in excellent condition. Believe me I was pleasantly surprised after reading the negative reviews. I will order again from Hirts. What a positive experience!

I have ordered from Hirt's on Ebay for several years and have always had very good luck with their plants. The delivery service is very fast.

I ordered 25 Giant Shirley Foxgoves for $34.99 at an end of season sale. Then I read the feedback at Dave's Garden and was a bit concerned with some of the negative feedback. No worries. The plants arrived just a few days after I placed my order on October 23. They were large, albeit somewhat rootbound but healthy otherwise. I wasted no time in planting them and they seem to be doing well. The only minor complaint I have is the packing: 10,000 peanuts are not necessary; crumpled up newspaper would have done the job nicely. I will definitely order from Hirt's again.
