I've bought seeds from Parks for years, always with good success. Last year, the germination rates seemed a little down, but this year, I grew 35 'Shady Lady' impatiens from a packet that was supposed to contain 30 seeds! I've rarely had to contact their customer service department, but when I did, the experience was uniformly positive. A few years ago, I ordered an iris that was supposed to be white with a yellow rim. The iris that actually came was a sort of muddy bronze and yellow when it bloomed, and seemed to be a dwarf of some sort. Neither the customer service representative nor I could figure out what variety that iris actually was, but though I offered to send it back to them, she said 'Keep it' and sent me a replacement the next fall

On May 3rd, 2007, AS added the following:

I'm usually very pleased with Park (except with the ultra-vivid, unrealistic colors in their catalog!) but this year, the experience was a little more mixed. I ordered a few packets of seeds in late Dec/ early January. Most of the seeds were sent right away, others straggled in over the next few weeks. One packet of fuschia seeds never showed up. I contacted them in mid-April and was told that the demand for the fuschias had been so high that they had to place a second order with the supplier, and I'd receive the seeds as soon as they got them. Seemed like a strange excuse to me, given that I'd ordered the seeds almost 4 months before. But I let the order stand for 2 more weeks, figuring I'd store the seeds and use them next year. (fuschias should have been started months ago here) Two weeks later, still no seeds - so I cancelled and requested a refund for that seed packet, since I'd paid for them by check. They gave me no trouble, and promised the refund. (I haven't received it yet.) The one thing I'm uncomfortable with is that excuse - Park was always a very honest company and I hope they continue to be. Crop failures, etc. happen, but if they can't supply a product they need to be up-front about it and not string people along.

Germination was excellent on most seeds, as it usually is. I did have abyssmal generation on the Laurentia - 6 plants - and the packet was also short a few seeds. But I haven't grown Laurentia before, and I don't know if this is a tough one to start. And I didn't bother to complain about the packet being short seeds.
On April 4th, 2009, AS added the following:

A little on the slow side this year (3 weeks is unusual for this company), but germination has been excellent, and all of my seeds were in stock (which doesn't always happen with these people).

And I'm thrilled that they seem to be a seed company again instead of only supplying plants in some varieties. Definitely a step in the right direction for those of us who remember the old Parks. I used to drool over all of the plants you could grow cheaply from seed. (and germinated well, unlike Thompson and Morgan's). Placed a bigger order than usual this year, because there were more temptations.

I've been very happy with Park Seed. They have seeds that I couldn't find elsewhere, and though some of the seed amounts are small, I didn't receive less than was stated on the package. Also, several of the lantana plants I ordered didn't make it, and when I contacted them about a possible replacement, they sent me out a new shipment of 6 plants right away, no questions asked, very polite and professional. Plants are packaged well and come with detailed instructions. I'll definitely order from them again.

I also like the quick order confirmation and the fact that I can check online on the status of my orders.

Ordered 5/22 from their 75% off sale (from their newsleter). Plants were shipped 5/28 and arrive 5/31. I was very impressed by the packaging. Will order from them again. Happy experience overall.

I ordered recently again from Park Seeds. I was afraid to after reading so many negative comments for a company that I grew up with. So I only ordered seed plugs for their bio-dome and yes they came within the week. FedEx ground. The two minor concern are 1) is that I never did get the email notification within 24 hours as their website states. It was more like 48 hours. I would only suggest that they revise their webpage to say within 24-48 hours and 2) when you order on the web online, the web confirmation doesn't generate an order number which I found kind of strange. I can only assume they track orders by some other data field. So for other than seeds and plants, they are still fine in my book.

I have purchased seeds and gardening supplies from Park for the past several years, and this spring I decided to try some of their perennials. I got an email announcing a very good sale on certain plants, so I placed an order. The results were mixed. I ordered six verbena plants, which were in poor shape but I've managed to pull them through. The Joe Pye Weed was dried up and dead. The bareroot hollyhock mallow just didn't grow! The other four plants in the order were in good shape and are doing well. I've always been very happy with Park's seeds, but maybe I'll stay away from the perennials, or at least the ones that are on sale.

I ordered for the first time from Parks and have been very happy with their service. We placed quite a large order and they had a free shipping deal so it was helpful for us.

The only problem with the order was that they had not put in one of the plants we had ordered even though the invoice said that it was there. I sent an e-mail to them and they sent out a replacement right away.

All the plants (some in pots and some bareroot) are leafing out just fine except for the miscanthus huron sunrise (ornamental grass) that I planted. I'm giving it a little bit longer to see if it just needs a bit more warmer weather and if it doesn't come up I'll contact them again.

They've been great to work with so far.

I am a loyal customer of Park's, and I appreciate their variety, quality and prices- certainly as compared to Wayside Gardens. Everything I have ever purchased from Park's has been as advertised, healthy, and either already growing or waiting for the right conditions to come out of dormancy. This year, for the first time, I bought 17 different kinds of seeds and the Jiffy 7 pots to grow them in. I wasn't sure how I would do since I've never tried seeds before, but I figured if I failed it wasn't that big of an investment. I can't believe it- I have an almost 100% germination rate, and some serious thinning to do!

(Previously I got aster 'Moench' from Forestfarm in one gallon containers at HUGE shipment cost. They were much smaller than Park's & one had yellow blossoms!). This is the best Moench I have ever received.

I was also surprised to receive the plants this early. Normally, I received my shipment in April. Fortunately, the weather has been relatively warm. It is unpredictable in the Midwest. Last year we had frost on Mother's Day. Other times the temperature jumped swiftly to 70's in April.

I have been ordering from Park's for more than fifteen years and will continue ordering from them.

It is interesting to read other customers comments.

Now, I only order from Park's & Wayside somthing I cannot get from other sources. Park's & Wayside's are just too pricy, although I would order Clematis from them only, since the root system is the best and the price not too bad if ordered numerous plants at once. I just started to order roses from them. Very nice. I will try them again if I have room in my gardens.

And their replacements were always made without fuss. I like that because it is so disappointing to see a plant die or never leave out then receive no replacement for them.

I like their catalogs. Nice to look at, although we don't really need several copies of the same with different covers. We pay for them too of course but you get what we pay for.

I am not good at growing from seeds, so I only try the easy ones and get most of my seeds from Johny's Selected seeds instead.

On the surface, their plants may seem way overpriced, but their policy of replacement/refund with no hassle offsets the initial price.

I shied away from Park's & Wayside for a few years thinking I had found cheaper suppliers. Unfortunately those suppliers caused much more headache and hard feelings. Their plants turned out more expensive when they didn't grow true to name, didn't grow, etc. and were not replaced or refunded.

I also get seeds from Johnny's and Territorial and locally, so all my eggs are not in one basket.
Park's does provide nice one stop shopping for a wide variety. My Park's Wopper cantelopes last year were huge! In 2001 I ordered fall planted bulbs and all grew well. Their seeds stay preserved and fresh in their foil packets, which makes them germinate well. They carry many popular kinds of seeds, as well as their own great ones developed by themselves. From what I hear their seed starting supplies are really good too. I haven't ordered plants from them yet, though. I must say though, I always order my seeds and supplies on their website and I usually get my order within the week. I only had a problem once with a container of fertilizer that leaked and they replaced it instantly.

I find that some of their see packets are more expensive than other companies, but it all seems to average out. I love the foil packets. I always start my seeds with their Park Starts and have had great luck. I especially like the fact that they have replacement cylinders for these.

Since I live in Southern California, I'm able to find plants fairly cheap and of good quality at Lowes and Home Depot, so I've not ordered any plants from them.

All in all, I give Parks a two thumbs up based on my dealing with them.

I rate Park's as the top seed website on the net. I order large quantities of seeds and I order by the internet. They always ship immediately. They respond to all emails rapidly and most of the seeds germinate well. If there is a problem with plants it is usually my fault. I order three hundred dollars or more of seeds and I try many new annuals. Some just don't do well in my Alaskan climate. The seeds germinate and do well in the greenhouse but when we have variable weather conditions it is not Parks fault. I have people come over to walk through my yard and view the flowers. I have had a commercial greenhouse manager ask me to help him with his seed ordering. My beautiful yard and flower reputation is partly do to Parks seeds. I have only had one plant I ordered not survive and I am sure Parks would have replaced it had I notified them. It was a bare root plant. Poor germination of seeds is generally because I did something wrong such as over-water the wrong plants or I ordered something very difficult to germinate (Park's always tells you this and sends you extra seeds to compensate for it).

They also wrote when I placed my order and stated several poppy species of the perennial type were not rated for my zone. I wrote and related we usually grow them as annuals and some people have them winter over. They asked me to let them know if my last years wintered over. This tells me they are very interested in their customers if we treat them with respect we will get great service. This is only one of several problems I have rapidly worked out with them.
