After reading the complaints here I made sure to call their customer service and make sure what I had orderred was in stock - for the prices they charge on their sale items it makes making that ONE phone call worth the effort.

Their shipping was comparatively fast (I've orderred from 5 or 6 places this year), but don't bother with the 2 day FedEx shipping (unless you're getting it for free). Just because FedEx sends it in two days doesn't mean you will get it two days after orderring. You should still expect to wait a week and a half at least. Still not as slow as about half of the places I orderred from.

The CS lady I talked to was pleasant. She even asked me if I knew that the items I orderred were on sale (of COURSE I did...that's why I orderred! :-D ).

All in all a good experience. Packaged well and things look healthy. The asparagus I orderred was still cold when I took it out of the box - I have NO idea how they managed that one.

Ordered 4 varieties of seeds (plants couldn't be shipped to Canada, sadly). All four varieties are thriving, particularly the Rudbeckia Green Wizard, (which looked so cool in the picture I HAD to have it). Quite unique varieties at a reasonable price, and the wait wasn't even that long for international shipping. And just looking at my original invoice, I noticed somthing I hadn't before; they list the country of origin for the seed varieties. Rather cool if you want to look like a smarty know-it-all to your neighbors.
Even though I wouldn't be able to order their plants due to cross border restrictions, I still enjoy the weekly emails; they have quite a number of interesting ideas that I can incorporate into my yard.

I ordered both seeds and plants from Park Seed Company. The seeds germinated beautifully and the plants arrived a few days ago. The plants look to be in great shape, and the Million Bells assortment has nice blooms starting. I am very happy with my purchases.

I have contacted them with questions on a few occasions. Contacting them via telephone seems to be more productive and more personal than emailing. When I emailed, I got annoying auto-responses saying they would get back to me within 48 hours and when the answers came, I was irritated that it seemed like they hadn't read my question correctly. In addition, the responses seemed very generic (you can also see that here in responses to complaints). I am pleased with Park's telephone customer service but not their email service.

Had I read all these reviews before I ordered (I am a new member here), I would have avoided Park Seed like the plague. Maybe I got lucky with my small orders or maybe they are not so bad after all because, so far, I am content. In any case, Park Seed should consider cleaning up their image and business processes.

I ordered several seed packets for a new vegetable garden this year, as well as some live strawberry, blueberry and rose of sharon plants. Overall I was quite pleased. I ordered based on ParkSeed's participation in Upromise College Savings program, and for a special offer making their otherwise high-ish pricing very competitive. Most of my seeds and seed starting equipment shipped promptly. My live plant matter arrived quite quickly. One seed packet is still MIA - out of stock. I have to say though, my cc was not charged for anything until it actually shipped. Communication was good - notices for each shipment were received, however no communication about my Eureka Cucumber seeds that are still MIA. All my live plants arrived in great condition, and are thriving.

Bought a boatload of seeds from them again this year - coreopsis, heuchera, balloon flowers, salvia - and everything's germinated and ready to go into the garden (if it ever stops raining and warms up).

Bought some daylilies and a peony. Daylilies are in and look good - no sign of the peony yet...

So far I am not sure if I should say I've been lucky or there is improvement on their services after so many complaints. I am going to keep my experience as Neutral until all items are received but quite honestly I am happy with the seeds and speedy shipment.

The seeds came in right away and have not started on too many of them yet.

I purchased quite a few plants from Park last year after we bought our first house. The results were excellent, with the exception of a couple of daffodils and iris that didn't survive the winter. They promptly replaced those plants. I would buy from them again.

For the price I pay for plants from this company, I am free to experiment and give things a try. As a new but enthusiastic gardener, I really appreciate that. I understand that I'm not buying premium stuff, but they do a nice job packaging the small plants they give you. As long as they stand behind the plants that don't flourish I'm very comfortable giving them my business.

I have been getting emails and catalogs from Parks and Wayside for about a year now. I was a little hesitant to order from them because of their lower rating on GWD, but decided to give them a try because they had the two types of clematis I was looking for, and at a great price. When placing my order (the first week of March), I also found an English rose that I thought I should try as well. The clematis both arrived about a week later, and the rose came about two weeks later than that (this week).

I received a shipping notification email only for the rose, which listed both packages' tracking numbers, but they were linked incorrectly to USPS. When I emailed Parks' to inquire about finding a correct tracking link, they sent the auto reply immediately, and then personally emailed me back with an apology and new link to FedEx within a couple of hours. I was impressed with the quick response!

Anyway, both clematis look great and have already put on several inches within just a couple of weeks. I'd never ordered a bareroot rose through the mail before, so I was kind of surprised that the roots weren't wrapped, but I followed the directions of unpacking it and soaked it overnight, and now it's already showing signs that it's beginning to break dormancy. I'm getting it in the ground this weekend, and can't wait to see it bloom!

I was impressed with the quality of the plants I received, the quick shipping and great packing, the timely and friendly response to my inquiries, and the great prices (the lowest I've found for what I bought). I'd recommend giving them a try.

I have been a customer of Park seed for years, with mixed results. Last fall they sent out a newsletter with a daylily I wanted on sale for buy-one-get-one-free. I ordered it that very day, and a few other items. Five days later I got an email with my order status, and the daylilies, which were by far the most expensive things on my order, were marked as unavailable. (Why would they put something on sale if they were already out of it???) They refunded the cost of the daylilies, but still charged the full shipping for the order. I emailed them about it, and they replied that $3 would be credited towards my next purchase. (but I know that the portion of the s/h that I was charged for the two plants was more than $3. I was charged almost $12 s/h, and the only other things on the order were two seed packages and two bulbs). So a month later I decided to use the $3 towards a new order. They charged me the full order, but when they shipped them, they had left out a set of three rosebushes. When I emailed them, I was told that they "had not yet been released" and would be sent soon. A month later I emailed them again, and this time was told that they were unavailable, but could be sent in the spring. I wonder at what point were they going to let me know that? (and again, why put something on clearance sale that you don't even physically have???) When I emailed them to ask for an estimate on when they would have the roses (which I had already paid for!) I was told rather curtly that spring shipping begins sometime in March. Did not answer my question. They gave me the option of getting a refund instead of the roses, but I really wanted them so I decided to wait. Still waiting, but rather annoyed.

On the other hand, I have been very satisfied with the quality of most of the plants that actually did arrive. They were healthy, good sized plants that had been carefully packaged. Because of that, I will keep ordering from them.

On March 31st, 2008, sunimrette added the following:

They finally sent the rose bushes and I am very satisfied with the quality. Would have preferred not to have to wait for them, but they are in good health and were shipped at the proper growth stage for planting and I am impressed with the size of the plants. I placed another order with them and was also happy with the quality of the plants they sent- they are now actively growing and I look forward to their blooms this year. Also, a packet of pepper seeds I bought from them had wonderful germination- considering how difficult peppers can be to germinate, I am impressed.

I've been ordering from this company for several years, and will continue to do so. Many of the complaints that I'm reading here seem to be petty. People complaining that their seeds were sold out? It's a big company with a lot of customers -- it happens. People complaining that their orders were shipped in separate containers at different times? I'm glad the company goes ahead and sends me what is ready to ship now, and then sends the rest of it as soon as it becomes available, rather than holding it to ship all at one time. I can understand the complaints about receiving dead plants, but the company is very willing and quick to send replacements or offer refunds. I've been very pleased with the quality of seeds I have received from Park's over the years, and continue to be impressed by their attempt to provide excellent customer service. Mail-order isn't the easiest business, and it's hard to please everyone all the time, but I think Park's is a quality company. I look forward to ordering from them many more times in the future, and I will continue to recommend them to friends.

I like a more human touch.

I'm glad someone got on their case about declaring seed count in the tomato packets. That was my only beef with their online catalog. I just browsed it Friday and found some discount seed to stash for next spring. Popped in an order and got an immediate response enumerating my requests and giving the total along with a tracking number and a projected date of delivery.

Anyone wanting a really good hybrid red slicer should check out Glory and nab a packet while they're on sale. I'm not promoting Parks with that comment ... you can get Glory at TGS and a few other tomato seed specialty vendors. But all in all I've found Parks online ordering, delivery, and customer service (as well as their hardcopy direct ordering by post) to be about the same as TGS, Victory, Stokes and Totally Tomatoes. Burpee is the one that was a bit tardy and rather lackadasical about responding to emails.

This year I became a customer with Park Seed and I never had a problem with my order. I ordered over a hundred dollars worth of calla lillies, bareroot roses, snapdragons and a couple of other flowers. I was very pleased with my order. The man i spoke with at Park Seed was very helpful on the growing conditions of each of my plants and how long I could wait to plant them bc I couldn't get them in the ground right away. I thought that the prices were fair and that i recieved great service from the company. My family has dealt with Park Seed for as long as I can remember and they're still customers to this very day. Thanks for running such a great company. I can't understand how people have such big issues, most of them seem to be minor mistakes blown out of proportion.

This is the First and Last time I will ever order from this company. I ordered some seed packs and all seem reasonably priced with the exception of one type of tomato (I won't say it's name because I refust to promote it here) which cost 6.95 per pack. I checked to see the number of seeds per pack, but didn't see it listed on their site, so I assumed it would be 20-30 seeds like their other seed packages. I decided to purchase two packages for 13.90 and can you imagine my surprise when my package showed up today and the 2 seed packs contained only TEN seeds per package!!!!!!! Almost 14.00 for 20 lousy seeds??? This company is shady, sneaky and dishonest by not openly posting the severely limited number of seeds you get in this particular seed package for 6.95!!!!!!!!! Their site claims their are a limited number of these seeds, but who gives a crap, this is the biggest embarresment I have faced to date purchasing seeds from any on line company. Stay far away from this place. If their ratings aren't enough to scare you off, then please don't end up getting suckered like me. Imagine all the seeds you can get ANYWHERE else but Parks for 14.00 and then go there!!!!

Jay Johnson did contact me by e-mail and he was very professional and genuinly caring about my concerns. He worked out an agreeable resolution and my favorite part is that he promised to have the website updated with the proper amount of seeds per package. I will shop here again and the Customer Service is probably in the Top Ten I have rated in all my on line experiences.

Last fall I bought 3 Japanese Willow Flamingo and an Avant-Garde Clematis. When my order arrived there was no avant-garde clematis with my order. I emailed and they claimed it had been mailed in a seperate box, but I never did receive it. They did say they would replace in spring. I did receive my replacement clematis in very late spring. It was sent bare root, but looked more like a dried up dead root. I planted it and it never did anything. So it was a dried up dead root.

None of the 3 willows survived either, but that was not Park seed's fault. They were very small when they arrived. They all came up in spring and then we got a very late frost. Within a month they were all dead.

Hmm. Well all I can do is go with my experience with this company which has been all good. When necessary, I have had very good customer service (I usually do this via email) even on very small orders and so far all plants have arrived in great condition. I even went into last year's records of my orders and may I say that all the plants I ordered from Parks in 2006 are alive and well and thriving in my Z5 garden.

Park Seed is quite good at sending seeds on time and their seeds are of superior quality. Their plants seem to be inferior quality. They stand behind them but who needs credit everywhere? That is not what i am looking for in good plants.
My biggest beef is that they probably ought to get out of the retail business.........because they don't follow up on orders where it involves supplies. I called the week before July 4th asking in particular for 10 perma nest trays that I need to be able to go out of town. I have had to delay my trip all month (even though I have called them twice about the order).........here is I sit without being able to wick my plants to get out of town.............I think I am ready to give up on them..................

I jumped the gun.................they came today............all I would ask of them is to be direct when I ask how soon they can get out an order. I would rather hear, "it will be several weeks" than to hear, "I will request that it be shipped out on Monday" which was not possible with the July 4th holiday.................then let me decide if i want to try elsewhere...............sorry for jumping the gun with criticism......

I've had nothing but success with this company. I took advantage of their recent sales (June 07) and ordered about 15 items. 3 items arrived dead, but I blame DHL. DHL tracking showed the package arrive at their warehouse near my home on a Thurs, and not get delivered until the following Tues.

Based on the fair amount of negative comments, I was expecting a problem with customer service. I called the 800 number and was speaking to a live person in less than 30 seconds. She suggested a credit instead of shipping replacement plants in the mid-summer. She applied the credit to my card, and the whole call took about a minute.

The prices were great (on sale), the plants were healthy, and the customer service was top notch. I can't understand all the negatives???

I ordered a few plants from Park Seed early February 2007 and finally called the company in May to find out the status of my order. Since all my other orders from other companies had shipped. They said that it would not ship until August. My credit card had already been charged back in February and I was expecting the plants to ship for spring planting not August. I am very disappointed with this company.

Park was my main seed (and seed starting paraphernalia) supplier a long time ago and I had been perfectly happy with them, so I was a little surprised at what seemed to be several negative experiences listed here. I had never purchased live plants, though, which I imagine would be fertile ground (no pun intended) for dissatisfaction. I was attracted by their $1 seed sale recently, though, and seeing some plants I was interested in, thought I would take a chance and hope for the best. I had a very good experience and wanted to share it. I ordered several packets of seeds, some for as little as $.85, a blueberry bush selection, and 4 live plants. All of the seeds arrived within about 5 days from ordering. The plants (less one backordered bareroot plant) arrived the next day. The plants were in very good condition. The blueberry bushes are of a very good size (compared to what I have received from other companies), and quite robust looking. One of the potted plants had a few yellow leaves, but was quite bushy and should be fine. My only quibble would be the price ($11.65) for a Campanula "Samantha" in what was supposed to be a 3-inch pot. The pot is 2 and-a-half inches, which doesn't seem like a big difference until you compare it to a real 3-inch pot, and the plant is quite small, though apparently healthy. I also wonder about the "charge upon order" policy, as every merchant I've ever dealt with on the web (many) does not charge until the order is shipped. If they ship timely, though, which they did in this case, that doesn't really matter to me. All-in-all, I am quite satisfied and will order from Park's again.
