I recently came across this site, and while I can't say that I have had a lot of experience with tomatobob.com I was surprised to see the negative feedback.

I placed one order in March for about $26 using paypal, ordering a lot of 1940's price seeds, and received my seeds within a week. The prices were good and they threw in a few sample packets of some Tomato seeds.

Again this was only one order and it may not have been a busy time for them, but I had a good experience with no complaints.

I ordered veggie seeds on June 17th, I paid with paypal. The same day I ordered I called the number listed to add to my order. They did not call back.

A few days later, on the 22nd, I called again. By this time I had also not received an order confirmation, a call back about adding to my order or a shipping confirmation via paypal.

I waited a couple more days with no call back and gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought they might just be really, really busy and email would be quicker. I emailed to two email addresses. I never heard back.

Deciding that any company that can't be bothered to return a phone call or email does not want my business they left me no choice and I filed a claim with paypal. They also did not respond to the email that paypal sent them.

10 days later paypal decided in my favor and returned my money.

I am a loyal customer. Once I find a place I like I tend to come back time and again. This company is certainly not one a person can feel loyal to. I'll take my time and money elsewhere.

No communication whatsoever from this company.

Do yourself a favor -- put TomatoBob out of your thoughts or ideas.
Even if you do get seeds, how confident can you be that the seeds are authentic and a true variety?

DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY! I ordered several seed packets that never arrived. I have emailed twice and called 3 times but cannot contact anyone over there. A great way to ruin a season. I have noticed many other people having the same issues. Even if this is a legitimate company (which I doubt), their customer service is so atrocious that they should be shut down by the better business bureau/etc. This company does not have any customer service!

I did receive my sends unlike some others on here. I was a skeptic after reading these reviews, but just left things alone to see what transpired. Well, my seeds arrived.

I am giving a neutral because the website says 4-6 days for receipt. And, it took double that to get them. I think their site should say, add an extra week during peak season (and then specify the season).

I do like the availability of the seeds. I am a huge mortgage lifter fan and wanted some seeds for my first garden attempt. These are the tomatoes my grandpa has been growing since he first started farming - and he`ll be 100 this year.

I do plan on seed saving so hoping I don`t have to worry about this next year. To those who talk about germination problems I wonder if its temp control for the seeds. They need to be in a cool dark place (like basement). Once planted not over 75 degrees and not under 60/65 degrees until they are ready to be moved to your garden. Also, soil and fertilizers play a part - doubly so in heirloom varieties. These seeds were bred not for shelf life or durablity but for taste and boy do they deliver!!

On April 25th, 2009, kuppusamy changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:

I did change my review to a postive. I remembed that Tomato Bob sent me extra seeds to make up for the shipping delay. I even got a free sample of another variety of heirloom tomatoes to test. AND, extra seeds of what I already ordered.

You can test your soil to see what its lacking and producing. This way you aren`t over fertlizing and can add just what your seeds need. Personally, I use a raised bed and have a HIGH yield! Same when starting your seeds, water, soil, and fertilzier can affect germination.

Worst purchasing experience of my entire fifty-five years... or, attempt at purchasing. Basically, this tomato bob... if he indeed exists... is a thief. I'm out almost sixty dollars... have received no seeds after payment almost seven weeks ago. I received no response to my email inquiries... and only one return phone call after trying to reach them many times... no, this "business" does not answer the phone. The woman who returned my call, curiously, stated exactly what the positive review below states: "Maybe you gave us the wrong contact information". No, I know where I live... they had the correct contact information. I suppose there are thieves in every arena. There are many wonderful seed companies out there... don't attempt to purchase from these criminals.

Addendum: I really hope someone puts a stop to tomato bob's scam.

I have had wonderful luck with Tomato Bob for many years. They have a lot of unusual varieties, and I always get the highest germination with their seeds. Although my order took about a week to ship this year, it was still much faster than most of my other orders. I think seed companies are very busy this year due to the economy. I will continue to order from Tomato Bob and recommend them for heirlooms.

Been trying to call for 4 days, but they never answer the phone, their machine comes on but says their mailbox is full( i wonder why). I'm not sure what others are talking about "fast & friendly" unless they work for the company. Because they don't seem to have a customer service. It's a shame considering the amount of business they could have gotten from me, as they are somewhat local to me. However these are unacceptable practices, and they will never receive business from me or any of my vendors.

Last year I ordered from this company and was very pleased with the transaction. I decided to order from them again this year. I received my order very quickly after ordering, and they had included some bonus seeds, which was very nice. However, they did not include one of the items that I had ordered. That particular item was the main reason for the order, everything else was just extra. I have contacted them numerous times by email, by telephone, and even attempted to contact them through paypal. They do not answer their phone, do not return messages left, and do not respond to emails. I have no recourse left but to post this and hope that maybe this will get their attention, and maybe I will get the item that I ordered or a refund.

I ordered $60 worth of seed and garlic from Bobs Heirloom Tomatos and have not received anything. I telephoned and left messages on their phone about 5 or 6 times, and they failed to call me back. I complained to paypal and they responded with a posting that they had trouble with their phones, and claimed they didn't have the order details. This was ludicrous since paypal itemized the order in the receipt they sent me, and one would think (since they use paypal) that they would simply look at the old order confirmations paypal keeps for eternity in your paypal account. Regardless, I asked them to telephone me. They have failed to telephone me. I have now escalated the complaint with paypal. I feel this company does nothing unless you beat them. BTW, I looked them up on Google Maps. The address is not for a farm, but for a tract home in a suburban development. I think Tomato Bob is a total fabrication. I don't know where he gets any seeds from, but it sure as heck doesn't look like it is from his own farm.

Today is 9-25-08, still no order. I have emailed Mr Price 6 times, called 8 times and left messages, and have received no response and no order to date. Filed a dispute with PayPal on 9-22-08 to see if I can atleast get my money back. The orders have always been filled in a timely manner and there have always been more then enough seeds. This year I grew 13 varieties and have 48 plants. The tomatoes are all sweet and delicious. I will continue to order from Tomato Bob's.
I did add a few plants from an Italian company and although the fruit looks great the flavor is not there.

Good shipping time and excellent germination rate (over 11/12 seeds germinate), got White Wonder and Great white seeds in first order, and then got some Homestead and Tiny Tim seeds. Both orders came with a free sample (Hank) which I also am growing. The larger plants look great so far, and they're starting to out grow their pots and it's almost time to start hardening them off. I can't wait to have our first white tomatoes, and if I'm pleased with the Tiny Tim dwarfs, I'll be getting more of those to grow indoors year-round. I have a feeling we'll always be filling our window sills with miniature cherry tomato plants...

Close to the end of January I placed my order with Tomato Bob, ordering seeds for a bunch of harder-to-find tomatoes and other veggies. I payed with Paypal. As soon as I'd submitted the order, I saw a variety of sunflower (teddy bear) that I've been looking for for several years. The reason I didn't see it the first time was because the website is designed such that you can ONLY get to the sunflowers through the site map and not through the main menu.

I followed up my order with an e-mail to the company asking if it would be possible to amend my order to include the sunflower seeds before the payment was processed. I received no response though my credit card was billed the next day. I was a little annoyed, but I figured they might get back to me a little later and maybe we'd still be able to sort it out. I heard nothing from them for weeks.

Finally, I decided to contact them. I was looking for a phone number and found that there was no toll free number. So I emailed, instead, despite the fact that I'd received no response the last time. I explained my situation and the fact that I hadn't heard back from them nor had I received seeds even though the money had been charged to my Visa weeks prior.

I heard back fairly quickly from a representative who indicated that she didn't know where my order was. She asked for the date of my order, which I sent. After checking their files, and finding no record of my order, she emailed me back asking for more details, which I sent. I sent her the original email which never got to them and the date of the order. She told me that sometimes orders just get "lost". (Never, EVER what you want to hear when you're communicating with a customer service rep).

Then, she wrote back and told me that she'd found my order. Hooray! She remembered it personally because my wife had phoned and asked for the sunflower seeds to be added. Except that I'm not married and I never had a phone number for the company. I would suspect, too, that my name didn't match the name on that order because that would be a huge coincidence. It would have been an easy enough thing to check and checking BEFORE emailing me would have prevented them from looking silly at having found a false lead. Still nothing.

The poor representative finally admitted defeat and asked me identify all the products I'd ordered and they'd ship it out immediately but there was no way I was going to do all the math it would take to try and recreate an order that I made over a month ago (I can't remember what all I ordered exactly) and with the exchange rate (I'm in Canada), I didn't want to have to try and figure out how much I could get etc.

I have asked for a refund and will update this entry when I receive it.

I felt like the company was disorganized. I don't like to point fingers or make unneccessary complaints, but I think that it's important to let people know about poor experiences along with the good. My biggest concern is with the fact that their system allows PayPal to bill customers BEFORE Tomato Bob receives the order. Also, that they lost an email AND an order both for the same customer indicates a larger problem with their administrative system.

Buyer beware!

On March 27th, 2007, Skcupo changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:

I finally received my order and it looks great. They threw in some extra seeds and the packaging is great. All the seeds are packed in little ziploc bags to keep them from getting wet. Very clever. Despite all the confusion, I am happy to have my order and it exceeds my expectations. Still don't know what happened that they lost my order, but all you can expect is that a company do what they can to make it up.

The "Red Brandywine" packet contained only 12 seeds(advertised 20-25 Seeds).

My requests for replacement seeds have been ignored.

Its too late now to re-order, have missed sowing time for Zone 8A because of TomatoBobs indifference.
