Comments regarding The Tasteful Garden

I have ordered my vegetable plants from the Tasteful Garden for the past three years! I love the fact that they are organic and a family operation. The fact that they are so successful at raising plants without a background in gardening gives me hope every year that I can raise a succesful garden. Their plants are the most beautiful I've seen and are as productive as can be in my area! This year I ordered some plants for my friend, too! The service is so great with Tasteful Garden that I feel like I am ordering from someone I know. Thanks for your great products and service!

Ordered several herb plants online. Plants arrived promptly as scheduled and in good shape. Only one was a little bit droopy, and it recovered quickly. All are doing well now that they are planted. Will use them again!

We found this company on the internet last year looking for heirloom tomatoes. We grew 4 plants and had so many tomatoes we were bagging them up for friends constantly. The plants were so big we had to add an extension to the top of our chicken wire frame we had built. I only wish the season up here could have lasted longer, but we picked the last bunches green and ripened them in the kitchen window at frost. You cannot compare the flavor of these tomatoes to any in the stores, I haven't tasted tomatoes this good in years. I just placed my order for this spring, with 2 plants of our favorite variety from last year (German Giant) and are trying three new kinds. Rose de Berne was also very good, sweet good for soup and sauces!

This will be my third order with the tasteful garden. The plants are healthy and perform as promised. One year, I hadn't ordered quite enough black Brandywines and purchased some at a nursery. The plants from The Tasteful Garden performed far better. It isn't always easy to time my shipments perfectly for planting, but it is worth the chance as the quality really is superior.

Thank you for your kind comments! Being in Alabama, it is difficult for us to keep plants into our summer for your growing zone in Maine. You can always get them early and hold the plants for up to two weeks before planting. Just keep them watered and give them lots of sunshine by day and frost protection at night. Because they are in such large pots, they should hold very nicely until you can plant them. We actually recommend waiting to plant them until a few days after you receive them to get them acclimated to your area."

This is my third year buying from The Tasteful Garden; I have found the owners to be extremely pleasant & knowledgable. Thier packing is also extremely thorough; I got 3-4 large boxes of seedlings from them last year, and all 30-40 seedlings were packaged properly, and moist from being well wrapped.

A couple of the tomato plants (roma style) looked leggy initially, but I gave them a chance since I had been so happy with TG previously - as of now, the smallest of these tomato plants is 8 feet tall, in fully organic soil, no chemical amendments. I am beyond satified with those results.

All the plants have needed very little (one spraying of neem oil when they were young) to keep them bug free and healthy all season long - which is amazing, considering how "buggy" my new property is.

I experienced an error in shipping dates wich resulted in most of my order having died by the time I got back in town. I contacted the Tasteful Garden and they immediately re shipped my order which has arrived in great shape and more plants than I asked for replaced. The attention i recieved to my concern was timely and most gracious. I look forward to many more transactions with this company and some great tomatoes!

I ordered tomato and papper plants from several companies. My order from the Tasteful Garden arrived in great condition. They were packed better than any plants I've ever received by mail. They were large, healthy plants, NOT even one splindly, sickly plant. I had the best garden ever and plan to use the Tasteful garden again next year for all my vegetable plants!

I purchased one each Arkansas Traveler, Early Girl, Better Boy, and Watermelon varieties of tomato. The Watermelon plant looked a little puny, but has grown pretty well. We had a heat wave (for us) of about three weeks of 90+ degree weather, and a few 100's, so I can't fault the Watermelon plant but the weather. All the others grew mightily and are producing like gangbusters, sweet and - as the name says - tasteful. Well worth the price and effort. We were tired of paying the grocery stores for what tasted like photos of tomatoes. These are the real deal! I will definitely be buying again from Tasteful Garden next year.

Wonderful packaging. Delivered to Texas in 100 degree heat, but only a bit wilted. Very healthy plants, larger in size than I expected. Quick shipment. I will be a frequent returning customer.

My plants arrived healthy and in good condition. One of the tomato plants looked a little wilted, but after a dose of water, it started to flourish. The four tomato plants I purchased are currently my pride and joy. I had to use container planting, which has given me a bit of a challenge, but all is productive. I am anxiously awaiting the ripening of several tomatoes. I'm concerned I will have too many tomatoes for myself. Since my planting started late in the year, I look forward to an early start next season.
Just today, I went back to Tasteful Garden to purchase the Neem II that is recommended for insects and fugus. If I could send a tomato from one of their plants without it spoiling, I would, just so they could know how great everything grew.

The tomato plants and herbs I purchased are thriving. The tomatoes are taller than I am (5 ft) and loaded with fruit. Even in drought conditions, unseasonally high heat and watering restrictions the plants are healthy and productive. I couldn't be happier! I am also something of a novice, this being the first real garden I have ever had and I am still getting wonderful results.

on the advice of a friend, i purchased a couple of carmello tomatoes from tasteful garden because they're heirlooms which are resistant to that awful v wilt stuff. i did this because it appeared my own tomatoes (also heirlooms --- sun gold and celebrity) and a brandywine someone gave me were falling victim to the wilt.

well, the tomatoes were gorgeous when they arrived, even though the UPS man left them a mile up the road at the wrong house in scorching heat, and i didn't get them for a day or so. even better, when i informed tasteful garden what had happened, they responded immediately to remedy the problem --- which turned out not to be a problem, as the plants quickly revived once i got them and watered them. proof to me of good healthy plants.

the carmello tomatoes are already gigantic and producing. and even though my other tomatoes (with the exception of the brandywine, which looks truly horrible) revived and don't have that awful wilt stuff, i am delighted i bought the carmellos and will buy from tasteful garden again in the future.

I love the Tasteful Garden. I picked my first vine ripe tomato this morning. I can't wait to eat it. I bought container tomato plants and have a full garden in my driveway which is the only place I have sun. Thanks for the beautiful plants.

Good variety of heirloom tomato plants offered. Ordered 21 plants. Only one substitution (Aunt Gertie's Gold, but they had problems with that one this year, apparently). All of the plants arrived in beautiful condition (2-day shipping). Plants are BIG and very healthy looking. The packaging is EXCELLENT - each plant is individually packaged in it's own thick cardboard protective container and held securely inside the big package. The container (with the dirt and roots) is also wrapped in plastic to keep moisture in. Customer service has been very good as well, emails get responded to right away, etc.

I want to thank Tasteful Garden for their most wonderful plants & customer service! As I live in a rural area with lots of Amish farms & greenhouses, I generally do not purchase plants for my vegetable garden over the internet since there is an abundant supply of inexpensive healthy plants for sale where I live. However, since I knew I would be busy this Spring traveling alot on business & would not have my weekends free for my usual Amish greenhouse shopping trips, I decided to purchase the plants for my vegetable & herb gardens over the internet.

I purchased plants from several of the major seed/gardening companies as well as from a few perhaps not so well know companies like the Tasteful Garden. THE PLANTS I PURCHASED FROM THE TASTEFUL GARDEN WERE BY FAR THE LARGEST, HEALTHIEST, MOST VIGOROUS, & BEST PACKED PLANTS OF ALL THE COMPANIES I BOUGHT PLANTS FROM! In fact, even though the boxes of plants from Tasteful Garden arrived at my house while I was away on a business trip & sat for almost a week until I returned home, I found them to still be quite healthy, vigorous, and not wilted when I finally opened the boxes. Kudos to Tasteful Garden!!! From now on I will be buying vegetable & herb plants from Tasteful Garden every year. What you get is well worth the price paid!

My heirloom tomato plants arrived today. I have never ordered tomato plants before, and I was a little nervous, but they arrived in BEAUTIFUL condition--prettier than those in the nurseries in our area--plus no more expensive and MANY more varieties than we can get here locally.

I requested my plants be sent on May 22 2006..I received them May 25th in Ct . All plants were very healthy, packed with care and large. I will buy again next year with a larger order now that I know what to expect. If your going to buy tomato plants and most likely other veggie's..THIS IS THE PLACE !!!!!!

Ordered 4 creole tomato plants and 2 Black Krim. I've been gardening since I was a little kid - over 40 years of growing tomatoes - and these are the best looking tomato plants I've ever started with. The most suprising thing, was that the plants were quite big for 4" pots and I was shocked when I took them out of the container and they weren't root bound. In fact they were perfect, fat thick sturdy stems, healthy growth, and I was able to bury them deep for good roots. After a couple of weeks in the ground nothing has changed my opinion, the plants are taking off. I'll be ordering from them again next year.

For the last few years, I have ordered plants from this site. Each year it is a pleasant surprise to find beautiful healthy plants. This year I ordered a few plants from a different website, and every one of the twelve plants arrived dead. I won't make that mistake again. The information on this site, as well as the lovely plants, have made me a much better gardener. Thanks.

Absolutely the best vegetable plants I have ever received. The plants were large, very healthy, and already had some flowers on them. They packed them with great care. I have bought a lot of plants online and from local places here. I have to say the plants they sent me were the most beautiful I have ever seen. I am delighted and will order from them again. I just received my first shipment of vegetables, berries, and herbs from Tasteful Garden. They were so much bigger and healthier than what I had received from another company in the past. In addition, they packed things beautifully to ensure that the plants would not be damaged and would remain moist. Each pot was individually wrapped in plastic and placed in a cardboard sleeve. I am very satisfied.

I just bought several tomato plants, a pepper, 2 strawberries and a stevia from their sale at Callaway Gardens. The plants were LARGE and healthy. I went to their web page and ordered more after seeing how large and nice they are. There was some I didn't see at the sale that you have on your web page. PLEASE do not substitute however! I want the sun gold! A Pine Mountain resident.

I'm very happy with my tomato plants. The Tasteful Garden offered a good selection of varieties, and the plants arrived in good condition. They are of a good size and aren't too leggy.

negative-just in this instance.The failure I had was with the Creole tomatoes I ordered last year.They just didnt grow.They stayed the same size as when I recieved them.It was like a failure to thrieve.Just wanted to let you guys know.All else was just fine. Thank you--Christine Zelmer

I have been buying from Tasteful Garden for 3 years now and have had nothing short of excellent experiences. The plants are huge, healthy and strong; Cindy and George couldn't be nicer or friendlier, and the variety of unusual plants makes me keep coming back year after year. I mainly order by mail, but occasionally, on a nice Spring day, I'll get the itch to make the 1.5 hour drive over to Heflin to say "hi" to them both and the dogs and wander through the greenhouses to see what's growing. I'm a professional chef and an avid gardener; something I share with Cindy and George, so we can talk not only about their great plants and herbs but also how to use them in the kitchen. I would recommend Tasteful Garden to anyone.

I ordered from The Tasteful Garden last year and two years before that when they were The Chef's Garden. Each time I ordered 10 different tomato plants and I have always received the healtiest looking plants that I can find anywhere. The plants produce much more fruit than I can ever use so I give them away to all my neighbors. The plants arrive very well packed and I can't wait to order again this year.

I ordered 16 or so plants from this company this year. I recieved several substitutions - a huge disappointment considering I was ordering specific heirlooms that I did not have seed for or could not get elsewhere and had ordered early to ensure I would get these specific varities.

A few of the plants were healthy and strong. The remainder were very, very small, 3 inches, 4 leaf's, tiny weak stems. NONE were hardened off, although when I called, they claimed they were. It was obvious that they had run out of stock, even though my first order had been placed in early March, and had quickly replanted to meet their orders, but had not done it in time. I have been home gardening for 20 years, and growing heirlooms for 7. I know what I am doing. Only a few of the plants from The Tasteful Garden made it. It was a huge waste of money - since they are a pricey $4.50 per plant, but they were only willing to rebate me for for 2 plants. Their position was basically "well, you live in zone 4, so even though you ordered early, other customers who we ship to earlier get priority." Being small is not an excuse for totaly screwing someone who would have been a repeat, high dollar customer for years to come. I highly recommend you order elsewhere.

It is difficult to have plants hardened off in our area when temperatures in Alabama are over 90 degrees. Tomato plants just don't harden properly at that level. Our apologies for the substitutions, keeping inventory is also difficult when temperatures get high. To prevent this problem, we will not ship plants after mid June for 2006. We regret that our far Northern customers will have to either receive plants early or not at all. Our plants are guaranteed, we will be glad to refund the money for any plants at any time however replacements just could not be sent so late. We apologize for the inconvenience. Cindy

I ordered Yellow Pear tomato plants from Tasteful Garden. This is the first time I ordered from this company. They immediately responded to me via email, personally, not an auto-message. They shipped the plants when I requested, and they arrived in 2 days. The plants are very big, stocky and healthy, and I have never received tomato plants of this size via mail-order before. I am very pleased with the packaging (each plant was in it's own individual cardboard sleeve, and the pot was wrapped with cellophane which also covered the top of the soil in the pot. No soil at all had spilled out, as is experienced with a lot of mail-order shipping, and the plants were perfect. I will definitely order from this company again.

I just got my first order, Roma Tomato & Strawberry, they are awesome, I never has such happy time to deal with online nursery, their service is wonderful. And I did make second order, and hope it will be good like my first one. And I will report soon:)

I ordered herbs and pepper plants and received them today. The plants were all in excellent condition and moist. I received an email the day before letting me know that they had been shipped and explaining that one item was on backorder. I am anxious to see how they perform this year. My experience with this company has been excellent so far.

I bought some plants last year from this company. The owner, Cindy, stated they would grow great in any region, that is absolutely not true. We all know not every plant can grow in every part of the region. The tomatoes I received looked good but performed terrible in my location. I also received pepper plants from this company, they were the punniest things I have ever received, definately not worth the money. I do not recommend dealing with this company. I am sure you can have the same luck buying seeds and growing your own at the prices they charge.

We offer plants for those that don't have the time or the inclination to plant seeds. Our plants are healthy and strong, however we cannot guarantee that heirlooms will be productive no matter the weather conditions or growing situation. We do make very specific recommendations on using mulches and compost that can improve growing results. That said, we will make sure that every customer is satisfied by replacing any plant that does not produce. Even a year later. Heirlooms are not Better Boys and can be very limited in the amount of tomatoes they produce. They are also without disease resistance which can create problems in areas which are likely to have blights and fungus in wet years. The reward in growing heirloom tomatoes is that the flavor is fantastic which no one will dispute and yes, we believe that all tomatoes can grow in any region as long as they are grown under the proper conditions.

As to our peppers, they did run small last year because of a late start due to germination problems. Our peppers have improved this year but hot peppers are still very slow to grow and should normally be ordered separately to plant later in the season when soil temps are higher. Again, any plant that does not thrive has our 100% guarantee, but in order to replace them we have to be notified that there has been a problem."
