Is Pinetree out of business?
I had several problems with this company.
1: The online ordering system doesn't work very well.
2: I did not receive an order confirmation.
3: I did not receive my order.
4: Both of their email addresses to contact them bounced back to me.
5: I tried calling them...the phone rang and rang with no answer.

I ordered seeds from this company last spring. This winter I am getting catologs from all over the country. I wrote to them via e-mail and asked them not to sell my name and explained that I believe this is, or should be confidential between a customer and the company. They resonded that I will need to write to an address to get removed from the list. They are missing the point - my name shouldn't have been shared unless I requested it. This is an attitude by too many companies. There is a belief that they own your name and personal information and can do with it as they please. This has to change. I know I won't do business with this company or companies that have this attitude and send my personal information to other companies.

I`ve ordered year ago hyacinth bulbs and seeds from this company. They terribly overcharged me on shipping.Hyacinths bulbs came in bad shape , blooms were short and misfigured. There were less seeds in packs than they mentioned in their catalogue, had terrible germination rate, almost all different seeds didn`t sprout at all.
I`m tempted to purchase from them some seeds that are cheaper than everywhere else, but I`ll not do it.I`ll follow an old rule:if you pay less for something and it was bad,you lost all your money, but if you pay more for great quality products you just loose a difference between two prices.
Regards and good luck y`all with this company.

Good products bad organization. Although most of the items were in good condition and came up, (I ordered bulbs), my tulips were the wrong colors. I ordered about 2 years ago. I've seen some other comments here on this company about getting the wrong color or strain. Maybe they're a small company and somewhat unorganized but they need to get it straight on giving the right order. Also shipping and handling is confusing, it's 1.95 for seeds, (a good rate), 2.95 for books etc. and 3.95 and 3.50 for spring and fall items, (plants, bulbs etc). Best to call and be sure of the shipping amount being added to your total. Not the worst company I've used by far, but certainly not the best.

While pinetree garden has reasonable prices and a decent selection their customer service is so so and their organization and ability to expidite orders quickly is absurd..... I find it wholly unacceptable that while other seeds companies even tiny ones can get their seeds out within the average time.... a week or so.... pinetree garden often makes you wait about a month which can severely hamper certain plantings and planting times.... They are a safe company to order from in that your seeds usually germinate etc. however as some have stated there are often "misteps" in the labeling and id.... (some wrong plants seed etc.) and they are SLOW to get your order out......
On May 24th, 2005, PurplePansies added the following:

I had placed two orders with pinetree one a couple days after the other.... one as stated took forever to arrive and the other never did.... Pinetree called me and said there was a problem with my account.... they left a "phone number" that turned out to be a fax number.... called back a few days later and left the right number..... I called a few times and no one was there. FINALLY I got in touch with them and they said my credit card was denied.... that's silly because I use it all the time.... they tried twice (inputting my credit card number) and got the same result.... I checked my account (no problems with it) and called back and the line was perennially busy.... so far I haven't been able to get back in touch with them and I haven't obviously received seeds.... I had planned to plant a few plants that needed to be sown already.... because of pinetree and my trying to trust them I may have a whole season wasted and not be able to grow certain plants because now its too late.... they are really inept..... they may have been better although not bang up before but now I'll never order from them again.

I ordered 3 inexpensive items and they charged me with 124% of the value of my purchase in shipping fees. I had to pay for shipping more than double of what I paid for the items themselves. Since they have a system that does not allow you to know how much you are paying for shipping, there was no way I could know. Had I known that they were going to charge me with such unreasoble shipping fees I would have never, ever, placed an order with them. Watch out!

We ordered from Pinetree for several years before switching to another seed company. Pinetree's prices and selection are great.

However, we had a couple episodes of poor germination, and in one case, we replanted the same hybrid with seeds from Pinetree and also seeds from Johnny's... the Johnny's seeds came up... Pinetree's didn't.

We still order from Pinetree because there are a few things we can't get anywhere else, but most of our seeds now come from another supplier.

Gee, maybe things have changed. Over a decade ago I had my worst mail order experience ever with this company. Herb seeds were mislabeled--came up wrong species, wrong cultivar--didn't match the description in any way. Tulip bulbs listed as crimson/red came out pink/lavender. None of this was discernible until after germination, so it was particularly frustrating. Also, the germination rates on some seeds--I particularly remember lettuces--we so low as to make me think the seeds were several years old. It got me so angry that I cannot even look at their catalog cover without my blood boiling.

My first time ordering this year and I had multiple backorders (which I had to call about twice to receive) and instead of getting pod peas I got snap peas. I guess I was the "unlucky one"!!
