Comments regarding Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.

i have been ordering seeds from them for the past two years via their web site. i always get my order promptly and always get free seeds. they also have the largest selection of seeds i've ever seen.

Baker Creek is indeed a full-service company. I've ordered from them by mail, as well as by dropping by their retail store. In addition, they sponsor garden festivals in the spring and late summer (and are planning to add smaller, monthly shows, as well).

Great, personal service.

Great selections and extremely quick delivery, had seeds in 4 days.

Ordered several heirloom flower seed packs recently and received my order very fast. They also sent me free carrot seed. No sowing instructions on the seed packs, but that info is fairly easy to obtain elsewhere.

I ordered carolina cross 123 watermelon seeds about a week ago, which are pretty hard to find. I recieved them today along with a free packet of carrot seeds. I did not know that I would recieve free seeds and am really suprised that anyone would give free seeds on such a small order($4.00 + two something for shipping and handling). I ordered some from another company about two months ago and those seeds did not look very good. I planted eight, knowing that it was to late in the year to fully develop, just to see if they were viable and only one was. Baker Creek's seeds look very promising and I am pretty sure that I will have some monster watermelons next year. A+++

I recently received my first order from Baker's Creek, and was very impressed with the germination of their seeds and the generous quantity in each packet. The shipping was also super fast. I can't say enough good things about this company. They are number "one" on my list to reorder vegetable seed.

I love this place! Flower seeds, melon seeds, pepper, and everything else I needed for the farden in one place - sowed in the ground and WOW so many of everything came up I had to do some major thinning!. Great seeds, great service, great place to deal with.

This was our first time ordering from Baker Creek and it will be the first of many. We loved their selection and found a few interesting varieties there that we hadn't found in other company's catalogs.

We were also very impressed with their lightening fast shipping; seeds arrived only two days after we placed our order! We have never received an order that quickly with any other seed company.

Even more impressive was this company's business ethic. One of our selections was out of stock and rather than send a substitute, in the envelope we found 3 one dollar bills stapled to the invoice! Who has ever heard of a company sending a cash refund? It told us something about the integrity with which this company does business. They have certainly guaranteed that we will give them our business again and again, and again....and then one more time after that.

Recently ordered from Baker Creek and I liked that they gave me a free packet of orange fleshed watermelon also the great seed starting guide they include with your order. Not many companies seem to go the extra mile for the customer. The catalog is extraordinary. Baker Creek is the alternative to the indifferent conglomerates who just want to push hybrids.

I ordered lots of veggie seeds from Baker Creek this spring, and I was very impressed...every packet had lots of extra seeds and I got almost a 100% germination rate on everything. I will definitely order from them next spring.

I placed an order for a bunch of seeds, about13 different seeds, all of them were OVER packed. It was wonderful. I received my order within 5 business days, along with an extra pack of bradywine tomatoes as a free gift. I have so many seeds left over from this order, I will be able to get a few plantings this year and probably next year as well. I will definitely be placing another order with them.

I am a first year veggie gardener. I place an order about two weeks ago. Received the seeds within a week and a half.

I ordered the Star of David Okra, Delikatesse Cucumber, Sugar Snap Peas, Self Blanching Cauliflower, and some variety of tomatos

Anyhoo, Planted the Cauliflower, and Peas last Sunday in my cold Frame.

I think out of the 100 seeds 75 of the seeds have sprouted. And I am guessing the rest of the seeds will sprout. Cause it has been less then 5 days. I have the Snap Peas start Sprout. The Okra I planted yesterday as started to try to pop out of the shells already. I am not sure if that is normal, because I thought it tooks weeks for Veggies to grow....

I thing I did notice was that overall the seed packets had double the number of seeds advertising, the okra stated 25 seeds and I planted 50, and still have a bunch left

Cucumber Stated 25 Seeds, and I planted 72

And all the other packages had more then the number advertised. I am very happy, and in the process of ordering a few more seeds packets.

This year I decided to try my hand at heirloom gardening.In this day & age of "hybrid" modified plants, I think that a company who can list a history of vegetables our grandparents used to put in the garden sounded like a great idea. I had read of Bakers in the Mother Earth News magazine, so I sent for the catalog. Wow, what a great "wish book" to have so many choices to pick from. My only problem is not having as large a plot as I would like to plant everything offered.
My seeds order came in promptly, in a padded envelope & had a "freebie" order of pepper plants - nice touch. Can hardly wait to get all of the seeds into the ground.
I also ended up on their gardening website & have met a wonderful group of like minded gardeners. I even have received some seeds from another gardener & gotten some great advice.
Will definitely be ordering more (in fact did so just a week ago & have received those seeds already too) & will recommend this site/company to all my friends. I also have subscribed to their Heirloom Gardener magazine, & am patiently (sort of) waiting for it to arrive.
You get a lot for your money at this company & they care about your satisfaction. You really can't go wrong with Bakers Creek & Jere Gettle's quest to save heirlooms for generations to come.

I have had great results with the seeds I have ordered from this company, and I have ordered a lot of seeds from them. They have a wonderful selection. I have had very good germination on everything I have bought from them. I would highly recommend their seeds to anyone.
They ship in a timely manner, and shipping is very reasonable. I would suggest ordering early as some varieties sell out fast!!!!

Received my seeds in three days from Baker Creek. Granted, I don't live too far from them here in southeastern Kansas, but it sometimes takes that long to receive something from across town. The eggplant seeds that I've planted thus far had very generous amounts in the packet, and 29 of the 30 I planted germinated.

I've been using Baker Creek almost exclusively for seeds for several years now. Even seeds left over from several years ago germinate with no problems whatsoever. They are VERY generous with seeds, when a packet says it has 20 seeds in it from some companies, you're lucky if you get 18 seeds, not so with Baker Creek, if they say the packet contains 20 seeds, more than likely it contains more than that. Best value for the money out there, and the shipping is way more than reasonable.

The best part about Baker Creek, besides the awesome germination rate, is what they say is in the package, is actually WHAT is in the package!

I ordered from Baker via their website on 1/24. I received my complete order including a free seed packet on 1/28. I really like their seed envelopes, large enough for notes on the back and resealable. More seeds than specified. The planting guide is helpful too.

I ordered from Bear Creek for the first time and was very happy with the shipping time and quality of the seeds. I was delighted with the amount of seeds and the free packet that was included with my order. I'll have to wait to see about germination rates, but so far so good.

I just got our seed order today and are we ever pleased! Can't wait to try out this new Tigger melon and the newsletter was great to read with lots of helpful hints.

I got my huge (50+ varieties of seed) package from Baker Creek yesterday. I am very happy with it so far, now when is the Baker Creek guy coming over to plant all this?

Fantastic varieties! Fast and cheap shipping! Actual shipping cost on the package was twice as much as the $2.50 i was charged. The only item that wasn't available was an eggplant that is readily available elsewhere (a little envelope with my refund was included). All the really cool stuff came! They also sent a nice packet of Lemon Cucumbers as a gift.

So, Mr. Baker Creek Guy, well done! My average last frost is mid May, I'll expect you some time around then to plant all this :)

I have ordered seeds from this company a few times. Each time they arrived quickly and well packaged. They always send more seeds than advertised - sometimes substantially more. I've never had a germination problem.

On one occasion, something I ordered wasn't in stock; and my order arrived with a little envelope containing a refund for that particular thing and an explanation. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company.

Bought some seeds From them last winter, and I was happy with what I got. However the pepper seeds did not germinate very well. I was very happy with the prices as well as the shipping costs.

I have ordered from Baker Creek a couple of times, and have been happy with the seeds. They give a generous amount, and germination for the most part is good. I have had trouble with the peppers germinating, but that is not enough to keep me from returning or recommending.

The prices are reasonable, and I especially like the reasonable flat rate shipping. So many places are unreasonable in both areas.

Baker Creek is wonderful. Jere is awesome! I wish there were more companies of this quality in all facets of life.

I ordered from them 2005, and will be ordering again 2006! A wonderful selection, and so much fun to go through the catalog over and over- even after ordering. I really have to get picky because their variety for vegetables is overwhelming. I had great success with all veggies grown last year, but could not get the flower called Stock to germinate. I'll be trying again this year! I appreciate that Jere is so committed to what he does. We need more young gardeners who want to keep heirloom varieties around!

This is the third year in a row I've ordered from Baker Creek. It's a great outfit and I've had nothing but success with their seeds. I usually only order a number of melon seeds (their collection is unbeatable) and am always happy to find that there are usually 20-30% more seeds per packet than quoted. It's good business.

My one suggestion is that the company actually list in their catalog the number of seeds per packet for each variety. It's odd, but they do it with some things (watermelon) but not with others (canteloupe). They'll gladly provide you with this information if you call, but since they don't have a toll-free number, the call is on your nickel.

I hope they see the light this year and decide to add this information for everything. It makes ordering by the packet less of a crapshoot.

I am impressed with the customer service of Baker Creek, as well as their rare seed selection. I initially was disappointed to find my order was incorrect when I received it in the mail yesterday, so I emailed them, and promptly received a reply from Angie to correct the problem. Not only will they immediately send my correct seeds by priority mail, they even let me keep the seeds sent to me in error. This showed me they really care and follow up with their customers, and I will definitely continue to do business with this company.

Last year was the first year I ordered seeds from the company. Although I didn't get any produce (all germinated, but after that... I'll do better.), I love reading the catalogue and magazine. I have a LONG list of seeds I want to try this year. The catalogue has beautiful photographs and long descriptions. And the selection! It was so hard last year to pick!
Above all, I love Mr. Gettle's enthusiasm. You see it throughout both publications and its contagious. I think it's nice to know that there are other young people out there with a passion for something worthwhile. He may be a 21c Hippy, but there are quite a few of us out there.
I get many catalogues, and theirs is the only one I read over, and over, and.....

I have ordered from Baker Creek the past two years and have been very happy with my seed orders. No problems with germination and seeds shipped promptly. I will definitely order from them again this year. The only suggestion I have for this company is that perhaps their catalog could be organized a bit better...primarily putting items in alphabetical order within categories would be a great help. Again, this is so small as to be almost trivial, but I think it would help to locate items more quickly within the catalog, rather than having to scan the entire listing for a particular item. Still, I do love the catalog with its great color photos and good info. A+ company!

This will be my third year ordering from this company when I place my order right after the holiday season. The past two seasons I have placed several orders...maybe 7 or 8 total shipments. Each and every order was received promptly and packaged appropriately.
There was one particular occurence with Baker Creek that stands out for me. I placed a fairly large order that contained virtually every tomato, eggplant and bell pepper cultivar that I anticipated having in my garden. Time was of the essence for this particular order, due to our all too short growing season here in Minnesota. Unbeknownst to me, at the time when I sent my check I miscalculated the amount. Three days later a nice lady from shipping/customer service called to let me know my package was on its way. Thinking to myself OK.... thats oddly cool and welcomed as we chit chatted about their products for maybe a minute or two.... she let me know I was $9 or $10 short. So I was significantly short on the invoice and my package was mailed?? I cannot speak for other companies.. seeds, athletic equipment, books...doesn't matter but I'd be willing to bet the vast majority would want the financial matters cleared up before shipment. To make a now long story short they trusted me and I'll keep on trusting their selection.

My only complaint, and to be honest it really doesn't bother me at all anymore is the lack of mentioning the range of days from transplant to harvest or direct seeding to harvest. Drives a friend or two of mine crazy. Suppose growing zone, local weather, precipitation fluctuation, soil fertility and lots of etc's can skew the dates.

No real problems, germination has always been good to excellent. Grow *Paul Robeson* tomato last year had 39 out of 40 seeds germinate. I ordered *White Currant* tomato back in 2003, think my order was mislabeled because I had absolute bumper crop of a tomato that looked like *Cherokee Purple* unsure of whether that cultivar was offered that year or not.. serendipitous I suppose. Only question I've ever had was with that tomato. That being said they will receive my order in a month!!!

For some reason, my order didn't arrive when they thought it would. So they immediately apologized and sent out a package **Fedex**.

Here's the real kicker: they were out of stock with what I ordered, so they included a full refund, 3 substitute (very similar) seed packets **and** a free gift of green zebra tomato seeds.

I oredered these seeds late in the season, so I was in a hurry to receive them and hoped that they would germainate quickly. My order arrived quickly and the germination rates are good (actually, considering how recently I planted them, I'd say the rates are great. Very few small seeds, and quite a few extras in each package.

This is one of the best companies I have ever dealt with. The germination rate for all the seeds that I ordered was extremely high. This company will be one of just two or three that I order from every year.

What a Great Company! I ordered a dozen Tomatoes,and 8 other varieties.Only one was out-They sent refund in cash,I don't know why.I checked the box on the order to leave on account as I will be putting in a much larger order next week.Delivery was promt,Seeds were in perfect condition and seed count was 4-5 times greater than Min.amount stated on packet.Great Company,Great Selection,Great Prices,Great Service.These Qualities are Rare here in Sunny California.
