Oakes Daylilies

I've been ordering from Oakes for many years and often receive positive comments from neighbors concerning their lilies in my garden. Every lily I get from them goes on to thrive. The lilies I got in just a couple of weeks ago were abundantly hearty with plenty of new growth. They are already continuing their growth spurt in my garden and I am looking forard to viewing these new additions as they bloom their heads off the first year, as always. On top of this, they give you free lilies when you order so there is definitely no "shrinkflation" here! I Love Oakes!

Purchased from them numerous times last year and each order arrived quickly and in good shape. Plants were very big and did well. A few have started to show green shoots in year 2, and I am looking forward to the blooms. While it is unusual to have a newly planted daylily bloom, several of the healthy fans from Oakes produced blooms within a month or so of planting. I've not had that with other mail order companies. Have already placed orders for this spring and heartily recommend them!

I have ordered daylilies many times from Oakes Daylilies. Every time the plants have been large and fresh. Everyone has not only survived but bloomed the first year. Highly reccomended.

Had a great first year with the daylilies from Oakes. They were healthy, bloomed happily... at least those that I planted in spots where the deer couldn't get at them! I have moved all of them to locations where they won't get browsed as much, and can't wait to see the show next summer.

Daylilies arrived on time, well packaged, good size tubers, can't wait to watch them grow.

I made three orders from Oakes Daylilies last spring. The first arrived and was put in the ground before the heat. The third arrived just into our hot season. The shipments were packaged well, the rhizomes were securely tagged and impressive. These were HUGE, and had several fans. The plants that flowered all were marked properly and flowered in the expected color. They look amazing now, though the third shipment struggled a little at first. I would definitely buy from them again, and recommend them highly.

Great experience but I didn’t expect that the plants would come as basically tubers. That being said they are very healthy and many of them in just one pot. So no flowers this year but for sure next year.

Ordering was easy with many diverse day lily options. The plants shipped and were delivered on time with good communication via email. The plants were in excellent condition when they arrived, with bareroot bundles of tubers/roots larger than my fist. By far the most generous and healthy plants I've ever purchased, with especially reasonable pricing.

I ordered from Oakes Daylilies for the first time this fall (Aug. 2018). I moved recently and in creating my new gardens decided to plant a range of scented daylilies around my porch aimed at having blooms throughout the growing season. Last spring I ordered for the first time from another vendor that sent the kind of daylilies I've received from various vendors over the years so I wasn't especially disappointed and had little hope the puny things would bloom the first year (as they did not). After ordering from Oakes Daylilies, however, I will never again order daylilies from another vendor. I simply could NOT believe the huge size of each set of fans. If Oakes had not included extensive planting instructions that included the urge not to divide the large sets of fans (minimum three and each fan in the clump as larger or larger than the single fan I'm used to getting!) and I had more space, I could have at least doubled the number of individual plantings. And, even better, Oakes provides a box at the ordering stage where one can list daylily preferences, even by name, as they apparently often send additional daylilies. If one does not enter any information there, Oakes will determine, based on the order, what to send that will be compatible in height, color range, bloom time, etc. Wow! What a bonus! I was absolutely amazed to receive extra daylilies that were as large and healthy looking as those I ordered, and that were, in fact, selected from among the several specific ones I listed. I only wish I had found Oakes Daylilies before I sent off that order last spring! I certainly will recommend Oakes Daylilies to all my friends!

I received my second order this year from Oakes and am delighted again with their plants. great size and healthy.

Nice healthy and full root clusters, and rich green leaves. They were very good about providing FedEx tracking numbers via my e-mail, and I just got the notice they've been delivered. It's nice to know the status of one's order. It's also nice that they've considered our growing season in the inland northwest, and have delivered plenty early for Fall establishing. My only suggestion to them is that they include in their planting information how deeply to plant the daylilies. I assume they should be planted level with the base of the greenery, but am not sure. Should they be deeper, or shallower? I've e-mailed them to ask, but it would be helpful if they included that information in the planting section of their catalog or with the instructions that come with the order. Good, conscientious company!

I ordered several daylilies from Oakes 2 years ago and they have multiplied greatly by now, so I ordered many more this spring: when they came they were very healthy and actually more than I needed, as they were all large bunches ready to be spearated. I shared some out with my neighbors. Friendly customer service and quick delivery combined with an abundance of healthy plants.

Posted on December 20, 2012, updated October 28, 2016 If the Swedish Academy ever decides to award a Nobel prize for horticulture in general and hemerocallis in particular, Oakes Daylilies will win the first time. I ordered late in the season this year (late Nov 2012)and received two boxes full of mixed colors daylilies that looked definitely as if they had grown on steroids, they were so big. I had to replace my eyeballs back in their sockets once I opened the packages. Now I have finally finished sequestering them in their places, and I have already seen green appearing on the sprouting leaves. Since we only have frost perhaps four times a year in Acadiana in southwest Louisiana, I am looking forward to dozens of blooms this spring and summer. My mother, who died at 90 in December 2004, loved daylilies. Thanks to all the folks at Oakes who helped me plant a garden of daylilies as a memorial to my mother. They will hear from me every year. My daylilies arrived beautifully packed, and the number of plants considered "one" by Oakes was more like four or five. They also looked extremely healthy. I also received two free daylilies (again with multiple fans), and they were not the usual bottom-of-the-barrel stuff you get from other companies. I highly recommend Oakes, and I will definitely use them again.

My first order from Oakes, and I have to admit I did shop the "bargain" section (except for one, Vanilla Fluff, which was so lovely I just had to have it, even for $19.99). I ordered 6 assorted plants. It took about 2 weeks for them to arrive, but when they did I was astounded. The plants were huge, even the bonus plant, with multiple fans on each and big healthy root systems. I was easily able to divide them as I planted them and from 7 plants (counting the bonus) I have 31 separate divisions planted. I can't wait to see how they do! I'm already looking around my yard to figure out where I can plant more daylilies!

Nothing but positive things to say about my experience! I didn't place a very large order, and shopped the $9.99 or less section, with my most expensive plant costing $14.99. I rent in Boston so don't want to invest too much, but can't stand seeing empty patches of dirt that only collect trash. I placed my order in April, noting that I would be traveling for a week. They held off on shipping until I was going to be home. The day I returned, I received a shipping confirmation -- awesome! They also included a "bonus" daylily, which I love. There was a little note on the ordering page saying to leave plant preferences in comments. When the box arrived, the plants I unpacked were impressive to say the least. My bonus matches my selections perfectly and though it's been a cool spring in New England new growth is already coming up from the multiple fans per plant I received. This company makes me want to plant ONLY daylilies, just so I can order from them again. Highly recommended.

I've only just gotten the first order of daylilies, but can say that they came just when expected and look very, very good. But the really positive thing I have to report concerns their ordering process. I accidently entered a double order, so expected to be stuck getting 16, rather than the desired 8, more daylilies. Imagine my delight to come home and find a voicemail message asking me if I meant to enter a double order, and giving me an 800 number to call should I want to cancel one of the orders! Now that's what I'd call good customer service!

After drooling over these daylilies forever, I finally decided last summer to place an order. The plants were super large, healthy, and high quality. I ordered about 6 of them, and they sent two bonus plants. Even being planted during the hot part of the summer, they did really well, and a couple bloomed before winter. They are already beginning to grow this spring. I just can't say enough good things about Oakes.

I ordered several daylilies from Oakes in the summer. I like the company's website and find it very easy to navigate. The shipping was very prompt and the packaging was great. The daylilies have done very well so far. I was happy with the transaction and placed a second order for arrival in the spring. After mapping out the placement of the daylilies a second time, I decided the colors wouldn't work. I sent the company an email asking to change the order. The company responded immediately and I made all of the necessary changes. I recommend this company without hesitation or qualification.

GREAT plants. I ordered 6 lilies from them. The size of the plants was amazing and they were remarkably healthy. They came very well packed in a large box. Many of their lilies are less expensive than elsewhere. I ordered a few plants from another company because they were cheaper there, but those plants were not even 1/4 of the size of the plants from Oakes Daylilies. Enormous selection with a very easy sight to use. You can select by many criteria. A wonderful experience all round. I may have to make a new bed to accommodate more orders from them!

Ordered 2 each of All American Chief, El Desperado and Startle plus I received 2 bonus plants, Fooled Me and Mexican Maiden. ALL the plants were HUGE, all no less than 4 fans, some more. This is not my first time ordering from this company, nor will it be my last. I highly, highly recommend OAKES to anyone and everyone who has a desire for Daylilies in their garden. Posted on July 31, 2014, updated June 17, 2015 Placed my first order with Oakes this summer and the plants I received were LARGE-especially since I ordered a small variety. I also got 3 bonus plants which were even bigger in size than the ones I ordered. In all I received 28 plants and they've all done well despite being placed in the mid-summer heat in heavy clay soil. A few of them have even flowered since. Their prices may run higher than others (only slightly and only on some varieties) but the divisions I received were so large they could have been further divided if you really wanted to stretch your dollar. Very pleased and will order from them again if I'm in the market for more!

I've placed and received several orders from Oakes. All the plants received are huge, usually three fans if not more, far larger than any daylilies I've received from any other mail order company. All the plants are growing and several are producing buds, and blooming, even during the extremely hot, humid weather KY is having, along with no rain. Plants are shipped typically on a Friday, and arrive at my door on Saturday. Granted I'm only a state away, but still...I can have plants in the ground within 24 hours of them being shipped. I will only buy daylilies from Oakes in the future. No other company beats them for quality and size of daylilies, fast shipping, and customer support.

All I can say is wow, wow, wow! My first time ordering from this company and I am impressed! I placed a small order and received the largest, well rooted daylilies I ever got online. I received a really nice bonus plant as well. Now if only I could find room for more daylilies I would be a repeat customer for life.

I've ordered daylilies from Oakes Daylilies for several years now and am always absolutely thrilled by the plants I receive. They have a great website (one of the best, easiest websites I've come across, they make it easy to narrow down choices by different criteria). You can set up favorites folders when shopping, making it easy to order after you've shopped. Plants are always healthy, great root system, beautiful clumps of at least three fans. They offer bonus plants (you can suggest what you'd like, what you're interested in, or if you don't note anything they always supply an interesting plant). Shipping is quick, plants are well packed, and communication is excellent. I continuously recommend Oakes Daylilies to family and friends and post my orders on my Facebook page which gets them additional exposure. You can't go wrong ordering from them!

The bulbs are big & very healthy. Other bulbs that you get elsewhere can be hit & miss on survivability, but you always get a good result with Oakes bulbs. And they multiply like crazy!! Just wish they had something besides Daylilies. I've gotten all the ones that I like & want to 'fill out' around the Daylilies with other plants Oh and don't let the price fool you. It says one bulb, but you'll get a huge fan of at least 3 bulbs plus they throw in a 'freebie' for you to try. I don't have a green thumb, but daylilies are almost infallible.If I had the money, I'd buy one of each daylily in the book

After reading garden watchdog and the reviews on Oakes daylilies, we thought we would give them a try. We were impressed with the size of the plants! They are amazing. We are very, very excited to see how they turn out next season. Fast shipping, pleasant customer service and really healthy product. We will let you know what happens next season!

Well I made a small 1st time purchase from this company... Then was reminded by my Wife that we were going on vacation this year. So I called up the friendly staff at Oakes Daylilies and asked if they could adjust my shipping time so that my order wouldn't arrive while I was on Vacation. I even asked them to help me correct my mistake in ordering an evergreen variety when I meant to order all dormant types, and they happily found the correct person to come up with a couple of very close replacement suggestions, fitting size, color, and type to just what I was originally looking for but better suited to Zone 4a well my order arrived on the day we got back giving me something to look forward to the following morning, however I opened up my package immediately, and was pleasantly surprised to see such nice sized CLUMPS for each Fan I had ordered. Seriously, I think the smallest had 4 Fans and the largest Clump had 9 Fans! I have ordered Daylilies from other mail order Gardening companies and have never received a clump larger than 3 Fans for each 1 ordered. Great sized Plants = Value Friendly, responsive Customer service A++++++++ Based on reading previous reviews, I have no doubt that they will be at least as lovely as pictured when I ordered them. I have been ordering from Oakes for about 8 years now. They never fail to exceed my expectations. They send huge, healthy plants with multiple fans, and they ALL come up and bloom beautifully. I have never had a single plant fail to come up (here in southern New Jersey). The bonus plants they send are amazing. I have been tempted to buy daylilies from other companies, but I never do it, because... Oakes is simply the best. Once in a while, I get a "free" daylily from another company as part of an order of other plants. I am always stunned at how puny the other companies' daylilies are. A single fan, with some roots that don't inspire confidence. Nope, I will stick with Oakes.

This company is fantastic. The plants were shipped when promised, the size and health of them was truly amazing. I've been ordering plants through the mail and internet for many years and I would have to say these lilies are among the best purchases I have made. The fans were so large that I ended up dividing them into 2 and 3 plants. The only complaint I have is that I had prepared a bed for the number of plants ordered. I had to dig up more garden space for the extras. Not a bad problem to have! Recommend very highly.

Today I received my order as scheduled. Again this year the plants are large and very healthy. Even the bonus plants are great quality plants. Their packing process may seem excessive but the plants always arrive in good shape. This is a very good company to do business with and I look forward to the same in the future. Nice job.

It has been several years since I ordered from this company and I had forgotten how large and healthy their daylilies are. I have never gotten plants like this from other companies. The bonus daylily was as large as those I ordered. You will not be disappointed with their wonderful plants.

Ordered from Oakes several years ago and was amazed at the quality of the plants. They even included a large lily as a bonus. Unfortunately, although the plants got very large, they did not bloom so I was very disappointed. However, the next season they were loaded with flowers and have been a major accent in my garden since then. I have had other daylilies but none can compare with these so would highly recommend to anyone.

I've had lots of good experiences with plants ordered online, but nothing like Oakes. What outstanding quality.

Strong healthy daylily fans were received exactly as expected. They have been in the ground for three weeks and are really starting to grow well.

Wonderful company! I ordered 10 daylilies last week and they came right away. Their website said I would get one bonus/gift plant probably equal to 20% of my order so I expected one additional lily. Instead I got 2 and not the cheap ones. I was really impressed because they paid attention to the fact I ordered all reds and each a different variety. They sent two bonus lilies - both reds - and different varieties than I had ordered. Outstanding! I also received a hand written thank you note. The website says each is at least 2-3 fans. Mine are 4-5 fans. One is even 6 fans. At planting I was already able to separate and get more plants. I will order again most definitely! Take the plunge and order from Oakes.

Oakes is one of the best places to buy daylilies on-line. The plants are all nice size and all grew well even though I planted in the middle of our hot, humid Georgia summer, not an ideal time for planting but I didn't lose any of them. The order came quickly, was well packaged, the cultivars were nicely marked so I could plant them the same day they arrived after giving them a good soak in water. I'll return often to Oakes since I now know I can buy from them with confidence.

I visited Oakes Daylilies for their Bloom Festival last weekend and was amazed at the beauty of their gardens and the friendliness of the owners, family, and staff. I purchased 7 daylilies while I was at the festival and all had in excess of 4 fans each for a very reasonable price. I should have ordered more while I was there, but I am planning to place an internet order through their website. Definitely a great place to visit and purchase from!

I ordered the 50 random day lily package. The fedex truck showed up about eight days later with 3 large boxes of day lilies. The plants were about a third larger than I expected and much bigger than the shriveled roots I've gotten from other nurseries. I put the plants in the ground right away. That was 10 days ago. I have blooms on about half the plants. They have not opened yet but I can't wait to see the colors, shapes and sizes. It's like Christmas in the middle of summer! I will absolutely be ordering again. Just as soon as I can dig up some more space.

Plants came fast and were all of very nice size. I am extremely satisfied and will be using this company again!

This was my first order with Oakes, so I kept it small, three varieties and one suggested bonus plant. The plants were delivered promptly, and the first thing that caught my attention was the nice handwritten note by one of the packers. The plants themselves were generously sized, about 6 fans for each variety, and I did get the exact bonus plant I suggested! Such meticulous attention to a small order will guarantee my future business. Now, if only other companies could follow Oakes example!!

I have ordered from Oakes in the past and I have always been pleased. This year, new home and garden, I ordered from another mail order company and from Oakes. To compare would be like comparing a 90 pound weakling to a body builder with a six-pack. The Oakes sent the most healthy looking large plants. I can't wait to see them thrive. The others, it will be years before I see anything if at all. I highly recommend Oakes.

I have waited a year to see how the plants from Oakes did. When they arrive all but one was in excellent condition. But this year they all seem to becoming excellent plants. When the time come to order more daylilies I will look no where else.

I have say I was thrilled with how fresh they were upon arrival. Well-packed. I was stunned at how HUGE these plants were compared to even the best I have ever recieved by mail. The ONLY way you can get anything better it to fresh dig a clump out of the ground yourself. GORGEOUS and true to descriptions on their website and catalog. I live in less than an ideal cold zone 5b central/northern PA. climate and we had a wet, dreary, sloppy spring. These were planted in heavy clay soil, amended with manure and peat moss. They still put on a helluva show their very first summer! I wish I could post some pictures here. Fabulous company. Easy to navigate and order. Shipped fresh and labeled well. Free plant included. If only all my mail order experiences were this flawless. I will never order daylilies from anyone else and plan to order again this season and forever! I ordered 9 Daylilies this year. They came on Sat. and as always looked great. They sent 2 bonus plants with my order, one of them had 6 fans. I have ordered from Oakes for several years now.
