I received half dead bamboo and messaged Lewis bamboo for exchange same day. the customer service required me shipping fee and gave me such a hard time. The customer service is basically telling me it s my fault to recieve the half dead bamboo… If you thinking to purchase bamboo, DON’T!!! This store sends you damaged product!!!

I have always loved bamboo, trees, furniture, everything. I wanted so much to grow some bamboo trees in the house but with my "black" thumb, I could even kill plastic plants so I stayed away from all indoor plants for all these years. :( Suffice it to say, I was EXTREMELY nervous to purchase, but read a lot about how sturdy they are and easy to grow and chose Lewis Bamboo. I received 2 beautiful healthy trees that were even taller than promised. Packaged so well Now the true test began...... It has only been 2 WEEKS since planted and BOTH TREES HAVE NEW SHOOTS! I have never been so excited!! I give all the credit to Lewis Bamboo for their careful cultivating practices and great customer service. Would definitely recommend!

I emailed Roger to inquire about ordering a particular bamboo that I wanted to grow in a galvanized container. He was very informative and helped me to select a bamboo that would grow in my climate in a potted container. The bamboo arrived promptly without damage. The Bamboo is doing great. I would definitely order from them again. Great prices, great customer service. I signed up on this site to give them a positive review. All too often I think we as a society only post when it's negative. I feel it is important to give positive feedback when it is deserved.

We ordered two bamboos from Lewis and they both arrived healthy and have continued to do well. We would certainly order from them again!

I am absolutely perplexed that Lewis Bamboo can get any negative ratings. Not only do they deliver great plants but their communication and customer service is top notch. I've ordered from them 4 times and every time it was the same. Perfect. I've ordered plants on a Sunday and a Monday morning. They had the plants shipped that same Monday all 4 times. That is amazing! Quick response to any questions, email confirmation of orders and properly containerized plants. The latter is one of the most important when ordering bamboo. Some vendors will send out plants that weren't given enough time to fill the pot with proper root development. Basically you would order a 2 gallon plant but technically get a 1 gallon. Not with Lewis. The plant you receive from them has been containerized sufficiently. As a bamboo geek the only issue I have is wishing they had more types of bamboo available. I promise you they are one of the best bamboo vendors on the Internet.

I have always wanted to plant bamboo, but was clueless on what type would work for my region and my project. I came across Lewis Bamboo online and sent an inquiry. Roger quickly replied and after several email strands, I placed a large order. Like any online purchase, especially a large one, I was concerned and a little hesitant. But I received my 8 plants and was pleased. But that was step one and now I had to get them into the ground and then ultimately not kill them in the long run. Along the entire planting process and initial weeks of caring for the bamboo, i would email the company and receive a very speedy response to assist me through the initial process of getting the bamboo established. Even months after I received the plants I can email Roger with any questions no matter how silly or stupid they may seem and I ALWAYS get a same day response. Their level of superior customer service and attentiveness to their customers or potential customers past and present has really made this experience truly remarkable and makes me want to order more bamboo even if I don't have a place for it right now. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for healthy bamboo plants and a company that will hold your hand through the tricky process of buying, planting and caring for bamboo. I have no doubt in my mind that I can email Lewis Bamboo 3 years from now after my initial purchase and get a quick helpful respond on any questions that I may have regarding the health of my bamboo plants! BUY FROM LEWIS BAMBOO!!!!

I highly recommend Lewis Bamboo. My first order was for four different species, all suited for Zone 5. The ones planted in full sun did the best, ones in semi shade took longer to take off, but they have. I ordered two more varieties this year and they were packaged so well that even if the box were tipped upside down there wouldn't be any movement or breakage. They were very helpful through their web site, e-mail & telephone. I would certainly purchase from them again. What a tremendous variety they have too.

Regular customer for the last 8 years. The couple of negative comments should not dissuade you. The lady who may answer the phone is a mother running a family and the books of the business so if you need warm and fuzzy hand-holding ask to speak with her husband. The site clearly says some items may be out of stock, which is rare. The plants grow underground initially to get established so wait through the next summer of whenever you order to judge but not a single plant of multiple varieties died here in NJ; they are thriving in a novice's hand.

I started out on bamboo 3 years ago and decided to order. I found Lewis Bamboo and I'm so glad I did. I love family and I love a family run place. They really take care of you and treat you like a family. I am their number one fan in all of Northern Arkansas (online). I wouldn't even think of going anywhere else. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your generosity and knowledge of bamboo. You have inspired me to start selling, not that I'll ever be as good as you!

Posted on August 1, 2011, updated August 1, 2011 When I began to research the best plants or trees to use as a tall screen in my area I had lots of questions. After much reading I found Lewis Bamboo and I'm glad I did. I got several personal responses to my questions (written by Roger) and decided to take a risk on an out-of-state company for this large investment. I spoke with a woman about the process and she was very helpful and make me feel that this company could be trusted. I knew from my research on their VERY helpful website what I needed to do for the preparation of the site and ordered just the right amount of heavy gauge plastic to line my trench. The trench took several men a few days to dig and as Lewis Bamboo promised, my plastic came right on time (prior to my trees being delivered). We lined the trench and partially filled it in with compost and manure, right to the depth that Roger had instructed. Right on time, Roger and another man delivered the trees. Fifteen healthy, TALL, Bamboo!! They were beautiful and taller than we were promised. The website states that they need to be planted within a day and that's what we did. Right away the area looked better! Roger said that these canes would not grow any taller. He said that all of the first years growth at this point is underground...but he was mistaken! In the first month they continued to grow taller and we even have new shoots sprouting! I read the 2 negative comments and all I can guess is that those folks didn't do any research on Lewis Bamboo's website or ask questions! I wasn't going to spend that kind of money and not be prepared. The entire planting cost well over $3.000. That's with digging the trench and buying the plastic, compost and mulch. If I had planted evergreen trees, they would be tiny for a long time and would have cost MUCH more. This Bamboo is perfect to shield my pool from my, very close, city neighbors. I look forward to watching it grow (I mean that literally) over the next few years. I live in area 6 and purchased the Phyllostachys rubromarginata 'Rubro' bamboo.

First I would like to preface my comments with the following background information: I made the mistake of ordering from a competitor called Ty Ty and have no idea as to what they sent me. I don't know if what they sent will even grow. It could take three years before I will know if what that they sent is what I paid for. I was very disappointed and regret wasting my money on a company that did not deliver a quality product or professional service! Ty Ty goes by some 30 plus different names... they sent a plain, bare, root ball that wasn't tagged or marked and didn't have any foliage or stems. There were No instructions. No updates on the shipping progress... It wasn't even shipped by the date promised. I won't even know if it survived until next spring and I won't know if it is what I ordered until two years after next spring. Imagine spending $150 and you don't even know if they really sent bamboo to you! Now with this said, I recommend Lewis Bamboo! Lewis Bamboo stands out from the competition with prompt, professional and courteous service! Yes, Rachel did make recommendations as to what type of Bamboo would do well for the area I live in. She felt that the Black Bamboo might have problems in my area... That is called customer service and her feedback was very much appreciated. I placed an order for Black Bamboo and it was a very simple smooth process. She did this at 7 PM Eastern Time! After placing the order, I thought about her advice and sent several emails to Lewis Bamboo... Rachel and Roger answered all of my questions and I then made two changes to my order for Red Margin and Giant Grey Bamboo. Lewis Bamboo kept me informed during every step of the shipping process. When the UPS driver pulled up and gave me the packages, I could tell that it was bamboo. When I opened the packages, I could tell that yes... my order for Red Margin Bamboo, Black Bamboo and Giant Grey Bamboo really was what I paid for! (The UPS Driver even came back to see the Bamboo the he delivered!) Lewis Bamboo even took the time to send planting instructions. The instructions were simple, clear and easy to follow. I had everything ready before my order came and with the long hours I put in at work, this was a big help for me! The next day after planting, I only had to trim one stem! I am very happy with the quality of the Bamboo and I will be able to monitor the health and progress of the plants for the rest of the growing season! I can't say any of this with the product that the competition (Ty Ty) sent! In closing: I was impressed with Lewis Bamboo and will be placing more orders in the future. I recommend Lewis Bamboo!

Posted on June 17, 2011, updated June 17, 2011 I wanted to order River Cane (Arundinaria) and called Lewis Bamboo. The woman I spoke to was a bit pushy. She quickly informed me that Lewis Bamboo did not have Arundinaria available (despite the fact that it was on their website) and then tried to persuade me that Arundinaria is ugly and I should order something else. I really didn't like the feeling of being told that I shouldn't want what I wanted and should instead want to buy something -- anything -- else from Lewis Bamboo. Because I never actually placed an order, I can't speak to the quality of their bamboo or their customer support. But first impressions are often important, and I got a bad one here.

Because it looked like a reputable company with a great selection I approached them for a sale. They were good about returning my call. However, I decided not to proceed with a sale. The saleswoman was impatient and rushed to discuss the process although I indicated that I was a new customer. Not only did she reference to the fact that I needed to read the website and act like my questions weren't relevant as I had already been on the webpage and had questions that were not clear on the page. She also referenced that "this is not a home depot mam" before spouting her return policy. Customer service is lacking already I would hate to see what would happen if an issue needed resolved. A very unpleasant experience, and unfortunate because I was about to order at least 500.00 in bamboo.

Product was well packaged, shipped on schedule, and was exactly what was ordered, 2 gallon Red Margin bamboo, which was very healthy and every bit as large as one could hope for. Telephone order taking was prompt and curteous, altogether a very pleasant experience. If I have a complaint, it's there is no shipping discount for ordering in quantity, even though there obviously is cost advantages in putting more than one plant in a box (my order arrived in multiple boxes, packed 2 to the box). This makes Lewis more expensive than some other nurseries which ship in larger boxes and charge actual shipping costs vs a fixed price per plant. This is unfortunate, as I am more than satisfied with this transaction in all other respects, and have no hesitation in recommending them to others, but also means I have had to spread my order for other varieties around to other nurseries to save some costs.

Posted on December 1, 2009, updated April 18, 2010 For hubby's birthday, I ordered three different bamboo. Suffice it to say I will return to buy much more from Lewis Bamboo. The lady I spoke with was Rachel (though I admit, I could have her name wrong) who was more than patient, answering my millions of questions, offering tips and advice. I'm certain she had business to tend to, but helped me through a dilemma. The bamboo arrived quickly and in fabulous condition, great root balls, healthy divisions, well packed and protected. One thing is certain, a person can't claim the bamboo spilled, as it is wrapped to endure anything, ha ha! Great bamboo, good prices. You get what you pay for, and I found that Lewis was nothing more than a quality shopping experience. We will return to buy more in the spring. Thank you, Lewis Bamboo!

On April 18th, 2010, WUVIE added the following: It is now Spring 2010, and we just received yet another fine shipment of plants from Lewis Bamboo. Six this time. I must brag again about the shipping. The plants arrive healthy, well packed, labeled and ready to grow. Simply use a pair of scissors to cut the packaging away. We prefer to leave the newspaper on the plants so as not to disturb the roots, of which there are plenty. In the ground less than a week and we're already seeing new shoots. I'm surprised Lewis does not have more customer ratings, though it could be due to the fact that many people are not fully educated that not all bamboo is alike. We will definitely order again. Thank you, Rachel and all.

I ordered six 6" high bamboo plants. Four arrived as 4" high and in good shape, the other two arrived four days later due to an error in shipping. When they arrived the plants were completely dried out and I thought they were dead. I called Lewis Bamboo and they said to soak them in a bucket of water for one week. I followed their advice and they didn't come back to life. I sent photos as requested to them and they said to plant them in the ground and they will come back to life. I did as they said again and the original four are fine but the other two are completely dead. My brother removed them and threw them out not knowing that Lewis Bamboo would need the new photos as I was told they were going to replace them. I just spoke with them and explained that my brother had already taken them out and I can't produce the photos but they said there is nothing they can do at this point. They didn't make good on their promise and I am taking a $154.00 loss. Please beware.

We at Lewis Bamboo regret that our customer is unhappy. All we requested was proof that his plants were indeed dead. The photos he sent us a month ago showed a plant that was alive. We gave him a few tips, extended his warranty and asked him to contact us if he had further problems. We even tried to contact him to "check up on things" to no avail. He contacted us and informed us the plants did not make it. All we requested was proof. None was given. We want everyone to be happy with bamboo. We love it and want you to love it too!

I bought 2 - 3 gallon division of Phyllostachys Rubromarginata and 1 3-gallon Muso in the Spring of 2007. They arrived well packed in boxes and looking real good. The roots were well established. So far, they still look just as healthy planted outside since then. The cold weather in the 20's we had a couple of times did not even phase them. I look forward to new shoots growing this Spring.

I ordered one 2 gal Phyllostachys viridis and one 2 gal Phyllostachys rubromarginata. Both arrived well packed, healthy, and in excellent condition. This year's new leaf-buds are just starting to elongate. They were very nice over the phone and shipped the plants exactly when I needed them. Will buy from them again if I find more space for bamboo ; )

I bought a 3 gallon division of Phyllostachys Rubromarginata in Spring 2003. The shipment was fast and packaging was done by someone who knew exactly what he was doing. The care this company has for its plants as well as customers was very apparent to me. I have emailed a few times with questions about my purchase and always get helpful, timely responses. The quality of the bamboo is excellent, meaning it was a strong division, well dug, and had little transplant shock. Great company!
