It's crazy to think that there haven't been any reviews of Bentley Gardens in years, but let me say that Ed Thaubald is still around, still selling great plants. These days you'll find him on Facebook in some of the Hosta groups, and you'll also find him on eBay, still offering great plants. I think I've placed at least one order every year with Ed for the past 10 years, but this year I took it a step further and tried some daylilies too. Bottom line, I got some fantastic seedlings from him that no one else has, and I am thrilled to think that with a couple years of observations, they'll probably all be ones I can introduce with his blessing. I look forward to many more years of giving Ed my money ;)

1st experience with this vendor - 5 hostas. Very pleased with plants which are larger than described and beautiful/healthy! Arrived promptly and packed very well. Stuck them in the ground and now thriving! Pleasant communication, good value! Highly recommend!

I bought daylilies from Bentley Gardens through MamaJack co-op. So this is not a rating for Mamajack, she is a jewel to work with. My daylilies came just after Labor Day 2012. They came well packed and green. However they were the smallest fans. I thought well I got a great deal, half price right? Not so, he now has some on the auction for half of what I paid on the co-op. Lesson learned by me, check your prices even if you think the place is safe!! What really was the cincher is when I posted my pictures of a daylily not doing well. Ed’s (Bentley Garden owner) reply was mulch your daylilies. Not sorry, I’ll send another, nothing. Then I did a comparison of daylilies from different venders that I have received after getting his order. What a big difference in price and size. I posted pictures on Ed’s daylily thread on the co-op of the comparison. His reply, “Wow, Julia thanks for the wonderful words”. Never heard another word from him, nothing! It will be years to see a bloom on these fans. Not happy and no bonus either. I’m posting a neutral because I did get plants but would really like to post a negative for quality, size and customer relations.

I Got some beautiful Hosta's on Mamajacks coop from Bentley Gardens. Huge plants, healthy, well packed and still moist. I will definitely order from him again. Great job Ed. :) (See pictures on Hosta Forum, 'Mail Orders good or bad...')

Posted on September 10, 2010, updated October 11, 2011 I participated in the Mamajack co-op over on Cubits, and purchased daylilies from Bentley Gardens. Everything went very smoothly. Ed, of Bentley Gardens kept me informed all the way, of when they would ship, and that they had shipped as scheduled and tracking number. The daylilies arrived in large divisions. Fresh, healthy and with excellent roots. A nice bonus was included. The price of these daylilies was great. Southern Dazzle for 45.00! I would highly recommend this company.

A+++ to this hosta seller. This was my first time ordering, but I had heard of him from another coop site--not DG. So I ordered 23 hostas on May 19. I received my order today-the 21st of May. Upon opening the box, all hostas were very well-packed with plenty of moisture and looked beautiful. I am very impressed with what I received, and you sure can't beat the prices. Posted on April 23, 2010, updated April 28, 2010 On March 2, I ordered 2 hostas from this company through EBAY. I knew that I would not received them immediately because the weather hadn't been that great. However, when I didn't hear anything or receive my order by late March I emailed the company to ask about it. I was told that "they would be sent around the 1st week of April. They would be good to go, and they are coming up now, that it shouldn't be long now, and sorry for the wait." So I waited. When I didn't receive them by mid-April I again emailed the company, no response this time. So today (4/23) I went into comments section on EBAY and saw that they had been shipping out hostas and that other customers had been receiving theirs this month. So where's mine?! I'm very disappointed that I haven't received a response back from this company. If the hostas didn't survive the cold weather then my money should be refunded. I'm taking steps today to ask my bank to recoup my money. And I've also informed BG that I would be doing this.

I placed an order on the net, and also had a couple of questions for Ed which I emailed. Very soon I got a call from Ed, who answered my questions and even helped me add to my order! The hostas came via Priority Mail. They were very big and healthy. The packing was excellent and the plants were undamaged, despite their size. If you have any special hostas you are looking for, I suggest calling or emailing Ed. His inventory seems very varied. I am looking forward to seeing his new business, which is selling wholesale liners. The pictures on his ebay shop hold the promise of very good sized plants in the liners. Something you don't always see! By the way, if you see a hosta on ebay, but not in his on-line store, give him a call, he's very flexible and helpful! I will be buying from Ed again, that's for sure!

I ordered several Hosta from Ed, and won several bids on the Hosta Libraries auction, and via emails with Ed tacked on a few more items! Everything that I ordered came in the mail yesterday, and boy am I pleased! The hosta all look stunning, and were very well packaged and shipped, the Black Mondo Grass plugs were extrodinary! I ordered some hosta last year from bentleygardens. Cathedral Windows was a very large, gorgeous division, and so was striptease and the others I ordered. I will order from this company again!

Mr Ed,Has one of the best Hosta gardens on the net! I get good selections from his hostas.He is a very patent man. I had boughten over the this past year, Green Fried Tomatoes, a few Big Daddies, Elegance, Mouse ears, and many more. I am new to collecting hostas. I also am trying to grow them. I can't wait to see them come up this spring and summer!!!!

On 0/27/08 I placed an order via DG Marketplace. 10/29/08,I phoned them w/ my cc info. Talked to Mr Ed Thaublad. Seemed like a very nice person.He assured me it was safe to ship and I could hold the plant overwinter in my unheated greenhouse. He promised my plant would be shipped the following week. 11/19/08,I hadn't recieved my plant so I d-mail them. No reply. 11/25/08,I d-mailed again w/ details of my purchased,inquiring again if my plant had shipped.Again no response. 11/30/08,again and for the final time I d-mailed again w/ order info and inquiry about my order....once again No response! Since this was an unknown company to me I only placed an order for one plant as a first run test and luckily my cc hasn't been debited and I will contact cc company to refuse them payment.This company has failed miserably for me. I'll never be fooled by 100% rating again and will stick to my know plant and seed sources.

I ordered 5 hostas from Bentley's. The customer service was very personal and the plants were beautiful and big. The packing was perfect and I ordered Sunday and had the plants on Thursday. I would definitely order from Bentley Gardens again.

I'm fairly new to hosta and it didn't take much to become addicted. I recently received 5 hosta from Ed and am really pleased. All very healthy and nice sized plants. They are Silver Crown, Fragrant Bouquet, Sagae, Stained Glass, and Revolution. I will definitely order more from Ed. Karen

Bentley Gardens is THE hosta seller to deal with. I've bought numerous hostas from them over the past few years and all have arrived in perfect condition. I had some questions about some new varieties I bought this year and even as busy as they are in spring Ed answered me quickly and was extremely helpful. I cannot say enough about Bentley. If you want the best hostas in the most perfect condition available don't hesitate to to purchase from them. You won't be disappointed. Outstanding!

I really wish there were a higher rating than just positive! Ed is great. He is honest, and will tell you exactly what you need to do to care for your plants. I have been to his nursery several times, and am always impressed. If you have a chance to visit his nursery, you will be amazed at how many more varieties he actually has there. It is hard to make a decision on what to get. The plants are all beautiful and very healthy. The prices are fantastic. He has been so helpful to me and I have always gotten beautiful plants and the best advise I could possibly hope for. He always takes that extra step, and puts up with all my novice questions. I have gotten absolutely wonderful hostas from Bentley Gardens. You can see by the plants you receive that this is a First Class Nursery. The plants are very well cared for. I've purchased several hosta from this seller on Ebay. His hostas are all of good size and settle into my garden very quickly. I would highly recommend Bentley Gardens to anyone.

Ordered from eBay. Was VERY pleased with the size of the hostas as well as the price. Ordered American Sweetheart, Striptease, Carnival, Guacamole, Christmas Tree, Fragrant Bouquet and I forget what else. They aren't kidding when they say they have the largest hostas on eBay! And they came back this year with a vengeance and multiple eyes. All true to name, and no nematodes or other nasties.

I ordered two plants from Bentleys, and I am absolutely thrilled with them. I don't think I've ever received plants this big from a mail order nursery. Wowiezowie!! How many nurseries send out plants that actually look better in real life than in the catalog?? My order arrived promptly, and the plants were healthy with an excellent root system. I discovered Bentley Gardens by accident while shopping for plants on the internet. The plants that I bought arrived in fantastic condition ... healthy and happy. I too have ordered from Ed at Bentley Gardens and the Hostas we BIG and FAT w/ many eyes. Unlike many other mail order co's Ed sends out ONLY the BEST. I too have been to his nursery only to find very well cared for stock.I was able to find some nice hybrid daylilies to take back home and share w/ my daylily snob friends. I won an auction from them on eBay, WOW what a contrast to what I had been receiving from other vendors. Mature plants with excellent root systems. Very knowledgeable and helpful with prices that won’t “break the bank”. One big negative is Ed makes it too easy to become a hosta addict! Lord help me, I still have room in my yard for more…

What a fabulous little nursery, and Ed was so glad to show me around. If you have a chance to visit, you will be amazed at how many more varieties are in stock than are listed on the web page or on ebay. Plus they have many bigger hostas, as well. The plants are all in incredible shape. The prices are great. Nice folks. What else? All they need is an updated stock list so their customers know how much more is available. I'll be back as soon as I've finished the shade garden expansion. I'm going to need a lot more space for all the new hostas I want! -Larry

I ordered several hostas and other plants from this company through ebay. They arrived yeaterday and were in super condition and beautifully packed. The arrived with 4 days of the close of the auction also. I could not be more pleased...the plants are large and healthy. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. I have bought a lot of mail order plants over the years, and this is definitely one of the best!

I just received 5 hostas from an Ebay transaction with this seller. I don't think I've ever bought healthier looking plants. The nice thing is the photos depicted the exact plants I was bidding on & the exact plants shipped. I will definitely be doing business with Bentley Gardens again....

I purchased about 3 dozen hostas through this company on ebay. I'd purchased about a dozen the first time and when I received the plants I was so happy with them that I went back to ebay and added them as a favorite seller and made more purchases. I'll be buying more once I figure out a new spot in my yard to put them!!! They're friendly and communicative in their emails and just a pleasure to deal with. I'm SO happy with the hostas... they're healthy and good sized and have nice root systems. No transplant shock at all. I've purchased from a number of other mail order plant sources and Bentley Gardens is at the top of my list!!

This is a wonderful nursery to deal with. I won a hydrangea from them off of Ebay. They arranged a time for me to pick up my plant. I was happy with the quality of plant I recieved. I was allowed to look at all the plants which were in wonderful shape for the time of year.

I "ordered" Hostas from this company thru e-Bay during the Winter. They held my winning plants until Spring-shipped when I requested them to and combined shipping to save me money. They always answer all questions promptly. When the plants arrived I was MORE than happy with them. I highly recommend this company.

I purchased nine daylilies from Bentley Gardens. The plants were very healthy with a great root system and were neatly trimmed. Each plant was individually wrapped and labeled and arrived moist with new root growth. I was able to delay shipment and it arrived at the exact time I asked. Auctions on Ebay can be combined with the website and the ordering process is very easy, with great descriptions and pictures. The owner answered all emails promptly. I will definately buy from again and highy recommend this seller. First rate service and products. All nine daylilies have been planted and are growing well. A+++++
