The flower sits on a stem above dark green leaves with a burgundy underside. If not kept in a container it will multiply by root runners. Has very large showey fragrant flower clusters.

Zone 8b, NC Florida. New flower with purplish color. As the flower grows larger and opens it turns a medium pink.

More buds starting to form in October. The buds themselves are beautiful. Small lighter colored leaves with pink and purplish tints encircle them.(San Antonio, Tx.)

The buds are starting to open. I did not see the catepillar on one of the blooms until I viewed the photo. Its color blends in with the buds. (San Antonio, Tx.)

Mexican Hydrangea are easy to grow, drought tolerant tropicals. If you don't want them to spread, keep in check by growing in raised beds that have bottoms on them. Look great in woodland settings.
