Monocostus uniflorus is a member of the ginger family. It makes a remarkable hanging basket plant here in zone 9. I will experiment with cold-hardiness this year. The foliage is lush and the plant blooms continuously, though more in the warmer months.

Buds are produced from the internodes; many flowers can appear along the entire length of the foliage.

Flowers are trumpet-shaped, with a slight sweet scent. Each flower lasts just a day or two, but the plant produces many.
