Probably 50+ years old in my front yard. Probably left in the wooden container and rooted. There is about 4 ft of root showing at the base of the palm.

Here is an example of an overpruned tree- a common sight in LA. I know they have to be pruned, but this is unhealthful for the tree to be pruned past 180 degrees and may result in pinching of the trunk or death of the tree... don't do this yourselves!

This is a recently planted tree in Southern California- notice the fronds tied up- to keep the moisture loss by the leaves down until roots form, and to keep the tree less of a sail and from blowing over until roots form.

This is a dead tree... just doesn't know it yet. It has fusarium wilt- you can see only the top leaves are still alive. In a few years, the dead tree will have to be removed... a costly situation which could have been avoided by cleaning the pruning tools properly.
