This is probably one of the most famous palms in the world, belonging to a long time palm grower in Ventura County, California. This palm currently has about 10 of trunk and is growing faster every month. But it took many many years to even get a trunk. The suckers are repeatedly cut off to keep rate of growth up

Here is a 'seedling' (about 8-9 years old?) growing in Pasadena There are two suckers here, so it may be many years still before this one makes a trunk

This is a very different leaf form, and though for now at least identified as D decipiens, may turn out to be a different species someday (long time for now- have to wait until palm flowers to properly identify it, and that could be 20 years from now)
