The flowers are nice, but the seed heads are the real feature of this plant. After flowering the green adds dark mottling. Once dried the head resembles some sort of strange chinese lantern and inside - almost a perfect sphere, full of seed. One of the most intricate seed packets I have ever seen.

Beautiful powder-blue flowers all summer, but a rather ungainly plant. Self-sows VERY profusely.

Not a great picture, but I think it still shows how big this plant can get. This one is in decline but is 5.5' high and over 6' across. It is growing in rather poor soil and received absolutely no fertilizer the entire growing season.
