The pink mutation shows the star much better, but isn't as pretty, in my opinion.

Flowers are dark blue with a slightly paler star in the center. This one just opened, so you can't really see the star well at this point...

Royal Robe Original cultivar...this flower can produce a 5 or 10 pointed star on the same vine and can appear much darker without a visible star depending on phenotype,physiological individuals,weather,growing conditions and time of day

The Royal Robe fully pigmented a darker blue ... main ribtips extending as star-like points into the white edged margin... added highlites by the outer edges partial shading...

STAR OF INDIA Japanese Morning Glory Blooms. Very rich, deep purple color with striking white edging. Grown in Central FLA, Summer 2006.

Camera makes this star of india appear blue, but it's true color is purple.
