This is the bloom on the flowering maple. It is quite large just like the plant. Seems slow to bloom, usually not until late Summer and early Fall.

Purchased in a gallon pot in the Spring, grown to almost 5 foot tall, beautiful varigated leaves and orange "chinese laterns" blooms. Not hardy in Western Washington state, have to retreat to the greenhouse in the winter. Did have one that survived for 2 years outside. Guess I was just lucky.
