I bought this bulb a few weeks ago, potted it and soon a spike emerged. This morning the sheath was still closed but as I sat at my computer an unpleasant smell filled the room. It took me a few minutes to realise it was the Voodoo lily. It smells like manure to me!

That´s my own plant growing indoors next to a terrace, semi shade.the flower last just one full day, and smell quite offensive. I recommend plant the bulb in a deep pot outdoors, after flowering.

These grew in our woods near Pittsburgh, from plants uprooted from the garden and dumped there. The sandal is for size comparison.
