Taken on 12th May 2008, Lincoln UK. A male feeding on Forget-me-not flowers. They are common, the species name refers to the white swelling above the front tarsi (feet).

It is a very small hoverfly, the face is a dark grey colour. Males have bronze coloured marks on the abdomen, females a bluish silver.

On 22nd April, a male hovering. The marks on the abdomen are not so bronze-coloured early in the year.
