A Gold-backed Snipe fly in my yard on May 28, 2007. The gold always catches my eye.

This is a male. Small (1") fly that likes shaded areas, usually found perched on a leaf. Male has large, touching eyes and narrow abdomen.

The female has a wider abdomen but smaller eyes. Both like to perch on leaves out of direct sunlight.
