The yellow pattern varies considerably on this species, with some having yellow cover much of the top of the wings.

Taken on 21st June 2007 on a Snapdragon. This one looked much smaller, the pattern different and paler, it had no stripes under the abdomen, Probably the male.

They are very variable, I have seen a pic of a pair mating, female with stripes under abdomen and this colour form, the male with no stripes under abdomen with colour form of my other R. maculata.
