This Fall Webworm moth is half and half.....half spotted and half not. Most northern species do NOT have spots while many southern species have heavy spots on the forewings and 1-2 spots on hindwing.

Early instar Fall Webworms in their nest on Redbud. Tents envelop branch tips while those of Eastern Tent caterpillars are confined to crotches.

Like a lot of caterpillars, fall webworms have several stages of development with different appearances.
