Helianthus Species
Helianthus tuberosus

10-feet tall and it is invasive. Moving my plants this fall (2007) to border of property where I need a screen. Hope I can get them all out, but actually they are not that hard to weed in the spring when they are small. When they are ten feet, that's another story. They are reasonably attractive, but they can fall over and may need to be staked. Mine are against a fence, so they lean on it.

According to Missouri Botanical this variety is native to Japan and hardy to Zone 4, blooming only after 20-25 years. It's a beautiful tree and there is a larger variety that is even hardier. It's been blooming for 35+ years but only recently have I begun to find seedlings. Would love to share this tree with you.
