| Kobus Magnolia Magnolia kobus 1 or 2 year plants that have self-sown from our 50-year old Magnolia. Photo on request. Kobus is similar to star magnolia, only larger. Ours is about 20 by 20, rounded Identified by horticulturist at Swarthmore Arboretum. According to Missouri Botanical this variety is native to Japan and hardy to Zone 4, blooming only after 20-25 years. It's a beautiful tree and there is a larger variety that is even hardier.
