Viola brittoniana

Very rare species of violet, grows rarely over 4 in. tall. has cluster of small elongated oval smooth edged leaves that are fuzzy. In MA. it only grows in partial sun in sand with sugar loving ants, mixed with a small amount of organics. It is said that the only way this violet can propagate is exclusively by seed buried by small ants, the ants take the seed a couple of inches deep into hills and chew on the seed effectively nicking it allowing the seed to sprout.
