Plant ID help

Alexandria, VA

Hi all,

I've been taking some pictures of plants near work, and I'd love to know what some of them are. I was wondering if y'all might help a girl out? I've taken them with my phone, so the quality is not perhaps what it could be. Hopefully I've gotten enough detail for an ID.

You can find the pics on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trueepicure/sets/72157618963887608/

Thanks!

Eva, took a quick look, first one looks like a type of Deutzia, possibly one of the D. gracilis cultivars - they're usually shorter like the one in your photo although the foliage might be wrong for this one.

Second one is Thalictrum aquilegifolium 'Thundercloud' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/126590/

I'm pretty sure the last one is Catalpa http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1682/.

Hope this helps :)

Ahhh Eva - you have the best helping you out...good luck!!

The first one doesn't look like regular Gracilis to me (what do you call it if you aren't referring to a specific cultivar?) -- I have several of those and love them. They are 4' - 6'. Mine look like the photo at http://www.arhomeandgarden.org/plantoftheweek/articles/slender_deutzia_5-13-05.htm

Maybe Deutzia gracilis "Nikko"? That is very low.

Definitely Catalpa. My husband was able to remember that the tree produces long "bean" pods when we saw it in NJ this weekend.

I'm okay with calling it Deutzia sp. for now. :)

Thanks so much for the assistance!
