I made some nectar for my hummingbird feeder over the weekend. I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet (not too many bees or butterflies either) I have the plants to attract them and the feeder. I did not see any hummingbirds approach the feeder nor did the level change as of yesterday evening. I woke up this morning and the nectar was completely gone. As far as I know hummers do not feed at night. What else could be drinking the nectar at night?
Hummingbird feeder thief?
Bats have been known to use hummingbird feeders. There were pics here somewhere, maybe the wildlife forum. If I remember right, the poster was in the Southwest.
Hard to imagine bats emptying a feeder overnight, but who knows?
I haven't seen too many bats either but I have been going in around dusk because the mosquitoes are terrible (probably from all the rain). I don't know what I could do to deter bats!!
I will take a look on the wildlife forum. Thanks!
The thing is, I don't know if we have any nectar-feeding bats in the east or not... lots of bug eating bats, though.
