I want to create a living fence of espaliered fruit trees along the back of my yard in full sun west exposure. I have never grown any fruit trees let alone espalier. I definitely want fig. I am not sure what I could combine with fig. The back boundary is about 50 feet wide. How many trees would go in that width? I would love to see pictures of any espaliered fences and get some idea of how tricky this might be.
I am in Portland Oregon, zone 8.
The neighbors cut down all of their large trees, so my yard has been transformed from shade to full sun!
I want a living Espalier fence but have no experience
Your area is ideal for growing apples and pears, which do well trained as espalier trees.

Most fig trees will eventually get huge, but there are a few that are called dwarf or are very slow growers. Try to find those, but I don't know whether they make good espaliered trees.
