Gee that was cheap Mya ...that last one is slow growing ...it's a great size ...perhaps the ...no I am sure the tropical temps ...may cause a qucicker growth rate ...mine has not got taller but it's trunk is double the width of last year.

Mya, a month or so ago I saw a selection of hoyas at Kmart Toowong. A range of varieties with labels. They were only in small pots and were about $8-$10 from memory, so yours really look like bargains.

Gotta love a bargain :-)

Mya great buys, which markets did you end up going to, I get all my hoyas from the willows markets, always a good price.

Magnetic Island, Australia(Zone 11)

Shelly, I bought those Hoyas from an Asian lady at the willow markets...I would have bought more but couldn't carry any more ,until next time.......

West of Brisbane, Australia

Ah, the red jade vine. I bought a seedling on ebay two springs ago. Grew strongly until autumn, when I brought it into the sunroom. Struggled until spring, when I took it out again. When it died. The nights must still have been too cold for it. Enjoy your vine: it should thrive in your climate.

Congratulations on your red jade plant Mya *sigh* ...for anyone who wants to know what Mya bought here it is

Mya it will go nuts at your place ...

Magnetic Island, Australia(Zone 11)

Am I the only one buying in this place?????

Surely Not

Just bought this........

I'll need all the advice on Fuchsias anyone has to give......this Brendan who runs this nursery, is only sending basket and heat tolerant Fuchsias.......Talk about great communication from this ebay seller,he's posting them off tomorrow.

West of Brisbane, Australia

Mya, you're buying enough for all of us :-) 36 fuchsias--did I read that right?? You'll be in seventh heaven when they arrive!

As for me, I plan to take a walk past a local house that has a huge stand of Buddleja madagascariensis growing along the front fence. I reckon they won't miss a small piece! If I knocked on the front door, they might offer me the entire plant if I wanted to dig it out LOL It has a reputation for being invasive, but the spot I have in mind is dry dry dry but in full western sun, too far from a tap to make watering easy. It's very hard to get anything to grow there, and I reckon this buddleja will be more attractive than cactus.

I think the Bolivian fuchsia is the one I will eventually *buy*. Just the one :-)

After noon to All ,
I have not bought any new plants this month but each week when shopping have been buying cheap plastic pots and baskets been potting on a lot to make space for new plants this morning put more around my little back porch .----------Sammut

sammut (elaine ^_^) you have enough already! post pictures of your growing babies ...how are your bits and pieces going?
Good luck with those fuschias mya I hope they do well for you I don't think they are too happy with warm tropics ...I will be interested to see how you go, mum grew hers in heavy shade and threw tea pot dregs over the soil at the base. We lived at Rockdale which was a stones throw from Brighton Beach and had sandy soil.

Here is a little chat re fuschia in the tropics it mentions a few that will survive.
cestrum ...I like the idea of a rapid growing hedge ...here is your "instant hedge ...very pretty ...good luck getting some cuttings.

I had already brought back a souvenir from my walk past that house last year :-)
But I swear that the flower smelled like cat pee ...

I already have the Buddleja 'Gold'. Actually, I ended up with two: one from ebay, one from the local nursery where it was wrongly labelled as a B. globosa. (My real B. globosa is too small to flower yet.) The 'Gold' has a faint fruity scent, almost unnoticeable in warm weather. You'd never plant it for its fragrance, but it's better than cat pee--thank goodness you have to stick your nose right in the cat-pee buddleja to smell it.

West of Brisbane, Australia

Hmmm, DG keeps rejecting my image. Here goes again, my Buddleja 'Gold'.

Cestrum you're a real tease.....dangling that gorgeous Buddleja infront of me. Only bought 36 cuttings, so they may not all strike but the Fuchsia man said that this weather is perfect for striking . My Solandras are delayed due to the floods, poor nursery is flooded but were able to save alot of there stock, apparently nurseries have a hard time with insurance, so they have to save what they can, poor people.

Chrissy according to the Fuchsia man, they have developed heat tolerant Fuchsias and he said they should thrive,we shall see.

Elaine great pots and good bargains.........I've just bought myself compliments of Mitre 10 great seagrass hanging baskets ,they are a real bargain,so cheap!!!!!!

West of Brisbane, Australia

Sammut, those round terracotta-coloured plastic pots do not look cheap at all, so if you bought them cheaply then you've done well. (And they look great in quantity like that, all the same size and shape.)

Mya, you'll be the one teasing us when your fuchsias start blooming! (*Only* bought 36 LOL) But which buddleja is the glorious one? If it's the 'Gold, that's my largest one and will need a haircut sometime between now and early spring. So if you want some unrooted cuttings, just let me know. (Can't promise the cat-pee one because ... it's not mine!) Don't know if they'll survive up there, but if you're willing to try striking some ...

Bad news about the nursery--amazing how the effects of those floods is so widespread, even when you don't live in one of the flooded areas.

While I'm on a roll, Chrissy: did you know there's a double form of the Philadelphus mexicanus? I didn't! A nursery in Tas. stocks it.

western sydney nsw, Australia

I buy the smaller plastic baskets because I hang alot on the chains and across the fence they are light I have a few nice ones still not used when planted they are so heavy .
Iam getting smarter these green baskets I can change the pots when the plants get to big .

Thumbnail by sammut

The only hanging basket I have contains a strawberry plant. It needs watering more often than those in pots on the ground, but the great thing is that the snails can't get to them. I have to hang some netting over them, as the birds like this method of growing strawberries too :-)

Magnetic Island, Australia(Zone 11)

Elaine you are amazing, what a great array of baskets.

Cestrum I'd love a cutting of your Buddleja Gold, it's beautiful, you did well.I've read up on it and it should do well up here......

Quoting:
These plants are hardy, quick-growing, salt tolerant, and will grow in most soil types

West of Brisbane, Australia

Not a problem, Mya. Just email me your address. Chrissy will probably know how best to strike it in your conditions. (Washed river sand, right?)

Great buys Elaine I love your prints and plate

I bought 25 seagrass hanging baskets, with the plastic liners looks exactly like yours,we have the same taste Elaine in anticipation of my Fuchsias striking. They retail for $2.99 in the Mitre 10 catalogue. Remember to slash cuts in the lining, duh ME didn't with the first lot I got. I also replaced the plastic lining with paper bark for all my orchids ,works great.

Oh elaine you crack me up ...ha ha ha.
That sounds like one of my nana moments.
Great buy.
cestrum and mya if I recall the globosa had a lovely honey scent ...I really loved it ...mine was attacked by dreadfull bugs that were playing birds and bees on it long skinny bugs joined bottom to bottom, that freaked me out ...it's the only reason, I didn't take cuttings to take with me, it's a lovely plant, it can get a bit untidy if you don't prune after flowering but apart from that ...plant and forget (treat like lavender).

West of Brisbane, Australia

Don't you love a bargain! I plan on going dumpster diving (hopefully) for the first time soon, around some of the construction sites in the area. Just as soon as I can persuade an accomplice to lend a hand and drive the getaway car :-) Apparently they throw away small quantities of all sorts of perfectly good things--tiles, bricks etc--because there's no outlet to sell them. (The only renovation/building supplies place that sold such things closed down and the council doesn't recycle these materials, so they just go in the tip with the other rubbish. What a waste!)

The buddleja cuttings I'll send you, Mya, is B. x weyeriana 'Gold'. (Still need your address, BTW.) Like all the weyerianas, it's a cross between B. globosa and B. davidii. I'll let you all know if my B. globosa survives and grows big enough to take cuttings from.

Magnetic Island, Australia(Zone 11)

Cestrum ,you're a HOOT ,no need for an accomplice, just a blond wig and a mini skirt (especially if you're going dumpster diving)should do the job and they'll give you anything!!!!!!!

I'll D-Mail you my address,thanks

Send your getaway driver down to pick me up I need some pieces of plastic pipe I got in trouble from my daughter in law because I picked up a big extension table and broken chairs to use for a craft table now we dont let her know any thing I find I am proud of the table find here it is in the garage.-----Sammut

Thumbnail by sammut
West of Brisbane, Australia

Sammut, I wish I had a trailer or whatever you used to get that table home! Almost all my wooden tables/desks/bookshelves were bought secondhand (I've never had a trailer or truck to collect them from the roadside during rubbish-removal days).

Mya, I'll post on Mon or Tues. Mini skirt, bad idea--they'll end up *throwing* the things at me. Wig might be a goer though ...

western sydney nsw, Australia

My son has a boy toy ute great for my junking finds not hard to know who talked him into getting it.
and good for the trail bikes the trailer always has things in it.

Chrissy ,
Mine has been acting up to day mainly I lose every thing at the tea room .--------Sammut

I think it was some security issue ...I saw some similar posts in the computer forum (a very helpful place in daves garden) so don't forget that we can get great help in there if needed.
