Easter lily scent

Some people - not me - apparently find the scent of Easter lilies a bit overwhelming. Now we have a priest who claims that we can get rid of the scent by removing the pistil. I think he's heard about removing the anthers and pollen and has confused the issue. How about it? And - assuming he's wrong - how do I convince him that this doesn't work?
