How can you tell???

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I have showgirls and silkies. I would like to know whats what and whos who. Many people say you have to wait until they crow or dont crow to know who is roo and who is pullet. Is that true? There must be a way. If anyone has an idea could you let me know? Thanks.

It is all in the "do". If the head feathers sort of sweep back like a 50s teen rock star, they are roos. If they puff out, mushroom like--as much forward as back--they are pullets. It becomes more obvious as their crests develop--it takes time, but it happens before they crow.

If I had to guess, I would guess roo for yours. But the front feathers may still develop.

(Zone 6b)

He or she is a little beauty.

Generally.. If it lays an egg.....LOL

Just the look on it's little face looks rooish.

My silkie roos have always walked/strutted on their tippytoes, so I would watch that as an indicator a well.
