Is Utah part of this group?

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

Hello-I will be going to Park City Utah with the family and wondered what amazing garden centers and pond shops might be around there for me to go to. I have pins in my knee so skiing is out but I love gardening, gardens, and have a Koi pond here in Illinois. Can anyone point me in the right directions for "our type" of dirty (but sometimes expensive) fun"??????

Thanks a bunch!
Linda

I don't know much about Salt Lake City, but I suspect it will have beautiful gardens. But what time are you going? It may have more snow than flowers if you are going soon.

Oh Mothermole, I am newish in this forum and tho I seem to recall seeing some Utahns here about, you might also want to check in the Southwest gardening forum? We have one of those, right?

Good luck finding gardens....... I don't know about Park City either, nor much about Utah at all except having driven through southern Utah years ago and being slain by the red rock beauty there. Rock gardens of spontaneous divine design...... :-)

Salt Lake City is a beautiful town and has many lovely public areas. I haven't been there in years, but I would be very surprised if they didn't have a nice Botanical Garden. On the other hand, you might not be able to see the plants for the snow for a while yet. It is considerably north or here and we are supposed to get several inches over the next few days. They may get quite a bit more!

mothermole, If you click on Products & Sources, then click on Go Gardening, you can enter a zipcode at the top of that page and search that area. Hope that helps you out.

Good idea, pluto.

Yes, Utah is definitely Rocky Mountains. I don't know on what is available shopwise in Park City or Salt Lake City.

Snow! And lots of it! The ski area at Alta always has the most snow in the country -- or close to the most.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Salt Lake has a beautiful large botanical garden. It is just south of the Temple. They have those big pink flowers and georgeous leaves in the spring. I know you are asking for plants you can buy but I don't know any places there. Feel free to hang out here because some of us have the alkaline soils that you will have there.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I leave next Tuesday. After I locate Donny Osmond and convince him that "I" was his intended since I was 9 years old and we both leave our spouses, I will go to the garden centers. Donny better like gardening otherwise I am kicking him to the curb . . . LOL!

Do let us know if you found anything not frozen in Salt Lake City -- or if you were so distracted by Donny that you missed the gardens.

Stansbury Park, UT(Zone 6a)

I just saw your post! I hope I am not too late for you to read this and use my suggestions. I live in Stansbury Park UT. and Yes, we have wonderful gardens that you can visit. Temple square is the first garden that comes to mind and it is so beautiful the first of April. It is breath taking! Another place you can visit is Red Butte botanical gardens. It is up at the University of Utah. Here is the link if you are interested. http://www.redbuttegarden.org/
Also, Thanksgiving Point is just gorgeous and a MUST see. You will just love it. If you like to golf it is next to a great golf course and is part of a museum that is really fun to visit. Here is the link for that as well.
