Time to move on. We have beaten the last number of replies so let's go again.
Please bring forward any unfinished puzzles (except for the hard ones!)
If you have not had a go yet - CHICKEN!!!!
Come one come all! They say things like this will stave off senility and whilst it may be too late for me
we may be able to save someone with the puzzles!

Cryptic Gardening #4
Thought I'd bring this forward as the last solved and because it is a good example.
I guess that the moral of the story is if it isn't solved in a couple of days the author
should drop a few hints as Alistair had done with this one. Check back to see.
3. Greek swimmer had Hero's end. Common name of exotic shrub (8 letters)
Brilliant one Alistair!!!!
Oleander
Hero's end = O
Greek Swimmer = Leander ( who fell in love with Hero and swam to her every night )
I love the learning with this thread!
(Sometimes just takes a little prodding to stimulate the thought.)
Cheers

Sounds as though you like lager... Genus (very large and diverse, mostly exotic)
Was this solved?
Steve
Well done Steve :)
No the lager one was not solved........ no extra clues for that one!!!!
Can we have the number of letters please please please
I promise it will be the last clue I ask for (on this one anyway!)
Steve
9 letters
Thanks Stake - this one was not got
2. Turned over a mealier sort of south american tuber - latin name of exotic genus (12 letters)
supplementary clue: the plant that 'south american tuber' points to is ornamental, not a food plant.
Am I right in thinking "A mealier sort" needs to be turned over and mixed, to result in a South American Tuber?
Brian
Googling "Mealier South American Tuber" yields all food (potato)
Am guessing 'Mealier' relates to a plant being covered in granules resembling meal. (per dictionary)
Will come back to it tomorrow. Bed calls!
Steve
Brian is right....
Astrolomeria
Very close!
"Astralomeria" but none of my books have that spelling and it was not easy to Google.
Brian
Alstroemeria
G'Day
That is in my books, don't know why the penny didn't drop and I wonder if the spelling I got with Google is the same plant.
A couple to work on "Appalled before prolonged pain" genus a perennial.
And this "Change Grandma with the specific article the sungod follows" perennials some are showy some weeds.
Brian
Alternanthera
Wise man on toilet!
common name of herbaceous perennial...
Well done Weed_woman spot on with "Alternanthera", I thought that might be difficult.
That wise man must be constipated if it's "purple sage". Best I keep on thinking.
Brian
ROFLMAO - it's Bog Sage! hahahaha
Good one Alistair.
LOL gardengal
Another newy to me. I even pondered that name when thinking of the toilet possibilities including some that are better not printed here.
Some for everyone Sounds like "mobs of sheep" Garden annual
Another "Kids' Grandpop & short edition, and Eastern Beer" Genus & Species perenial.
Brian
This is a fun one!
St John's Wort?
St John would have been wise and maybe he had a wart only visible when on the loo?
You can see by this attempt that I have no idea yet!
Budgie
Thanks Stake. Leads me to this.
"Kids' Grandpop is a brick layer"
Mostly annual - Genus
Now back to the toilet.
Steve
The toilet has been fixed Budgieman. Gardengal got it.
Brian
Budgieman we both have the same genus but mine has the species too.
Brian
flox for mobs of sheep
Yes but it is Phlox.
you beat me to it' I was just going to correct it. sorry.

G'Day
Funny how we both put the clues for "Papaver" at the same time. The species is not right but I would be interested to know how you got pygmaeum out of "Eastern Beer"?
