I'm planning to grow a raspberry patch this year, so I'm eager to hear your companion planting tips. For instance, I've heard that raspberries don't grow well near tomatoes, potatoes, or eggplants. Have any of you discovered other pairings that either help or hurt raspberries?
Companion planting with raspberries
According to "Carrots Love Tomatoes" by Louise Riotte, black and purple raspberries should be planted no closer than 600 ft. (that is like 5 lots away in my tract)
Raspberries and roses planted near Rue (ruta graveolens) will deter the Japanese beetle.
Thanks for the tips. I'll do some reading.
Does anybody else have tips to offer?
Hi Puddle,
I would have said the rue thing. This works, absolutely. They are plants that seem to be very happy to be together.
Anyone? Bueller?
They do well with garlic planted nearby.
