Peregrine Falcon battles it out

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Last week our tiny local paper “The American Journal” printed an interesting article about a Peregrine falcon and a red-tailed hawk that got in a fatal battle above downtown Main Street. The dueling pair tumbled from the sky into the street below where cars and pedestrians stopped to observe. I didn’t see it myself but I wished I had. The falcon killed the hawk, dragged it to the sidewalk, and proceeded to eat it while several people stood and watched. Didn’t even bother him to have his picture taken. The article said he made such a glutton of himself that he had trouble flying away after and there was concern about him being injured in the battle. He was fine though after a few hours of digesting the meal. I’ve never seen Peregrine falcon …..that sure would have been something to witness!

We have them here and they love pigeons!! Sometimes down town, people see it, falcon swoops in and grabs one. Guess there will be less poop on the cars.
