Wintergreen/Teaberry

Greensburg, PA

Just wanted to share a pic of my fruiting wintergreen. Some of the berries are approaching 1" in size.

It is soooo! beautiful.

Very pretty. I always wanted the white berries. Do you eat them?

White berries? Can you explain more about this? I am only familiar with the red ones. There is a different plant called Chilean Wintergreen that does white berries (there is a red berry form of it as well). Is this the one you are referring to?

I will probably eat some of the red berries. They taste like wintergreen lifesavers, but I think I will also save some seed and see if I can get it to start for me.

How very interesting.. I've never heard of them.. Where did you get your start?

Kathy Jo, There are many mail order places that sell them. Try googling "wintergreen" or "teaberry" and sell or buy. There are also people at Dave's that can trade them to you.

You are right. I was thinking of the Chilean Wintergreen. I had one for a short time but it passed away either due to heat or my soil wasnt acid enough. Probably heat. Yours looks great.

How cool! Do you grow yours as a houseplant?
