Snakes, frogs and lizards! #1

Benton County, MO(Zone 5a)

How about a thread for these guys? I may have missed it if one is already started, so please forgive me if that's the case. I have a few pics of these guys who live around my home here. :-) The first one being the famous Copperhead. We try to relocate these guys away from our house and yard, but if they act aggressive, we usually kill them. There were two living under our front deck the first year we were here. Yikes! They would lay on our walkway in the evenings. Not a good thing.

#2 The Copperhead is the only poisonous snake we have found so far around here. No rattlers yet!

Another Garter snake. I believe the Garter snakes I am showing are called Western Ribbon snakes.

I am all in favor of live and let live. Most snakes are harmless and beneficial. I am not so generous with the copperhead. They are dangerous. They don't give you any warning and won't get out of your way. We killed one in our barn hall. I wish we had a couple of big bull snakes there.

Here's a little Rough Green snake. I guess they all have pretty eyes. lol I love the color of these snakes.

I agree with you, but my husband usually holds to the aggressive rule. Nice snake, you get to live somewhere else. Bad snake, you die! :p

Or rather I should say Nice Copperhead, bad Copperhead. The other snakes are left alone. :-)

I think that little green snake is what we always called a grass snake. I remember seeing them a lot when I was a kid but I haven't seen one in ages. Does it have a musky scent?

You know, I really don't know. I think all snakes have some sort of scent like that to them. lol My husband is the snake lover and the one who catches them all. I did just catch my first snake though this summer. A young Black Rat snake. :-)

Benton County, MO(Zone 5a)

This was my first catch. I was too afraid to free hold him, but I know my hold on his head wasn't quite right. It was for practice *wink wink* since I had never caught a snake before. He is a young Black Rat snake.

I will have to edit some of these pictures for names. My husband knows them, but I am not so good. Here's another beautiful little one.

This is a Western Worm snake.
