Native evergreens

Whitehouse Station, NJ(Zone 6b)

Can anyone recommend an evergreen shrub / tree native to NJ that doesn't get too tall (say less than 50 feet) is deer-proof, no maintenance and good for screening / privacy? Many thanks.

This Arbor Day advanced search option for trees may be helpful.

Thanks, I did check there, but they don't seem to be able to identify native species.

Here's a link to the NJ Native Plant Society. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, they've listed native trees by county. Good luck - I hope you're able to find just the right tree.

I really enjoyed a book by William Cullina on Native Trees and Shrubs by New England Plant society. Otherwise I'm thinking you may find one source to tell you what is native , but still want another to tell you how well it works in landscape.
I have Dirr's Encyclopedia at the moment which has lots of lists at the end but not one on "native evergreen" or even just "native American"
