Alpines into the fall season

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

Our cooler than normal weather in early August followed by warm temps later in the month has stimulated some of the alpines to re-bloom like this Erigeron aureus.

Lewisia pygmaea is also reblooming.

I was surprised that Campanula caespitosa bloomed the first year from seed.

Oxytropis megalantha is yet another rebloomer.

The Cyanthus has the most intriguing . . . intriguing . . . . what the heck are those crystaline "needles" poking up from the center area of the flower?

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

I have no idea...pretty funky aren't they!

They almost look like orchids too, goldenfish! Nice.

Edit to say:
Well after the close up shot, not so much. But I like it very much.

Never knew Veratrums could bloom so late. Attractive!

Tottori, Japan(Zone 9a)

Leftwood,

To tell the truth, I was thinking this one is orchid at first, so I had trouble looking up
the name of this(^_^)

Tottori, Japan(Zone 9a)

Todd,

Cyananthus lobatus is barely cultivated in here. Lovely color and very cute!
This Veratrum start to bloom in late summer though, another kind of Veratrums bloom in late spring to summer in Japan, too. Day time temperatures have been above 85 F into September in here.

I've been happily lurking on this thread ... don't seem to have much to share but I sure
do enjoy seeing what you folks have! More plants I'm not familiar with...

Gentiana acaulis blooming its heart off. There's two blooms today.

That saxifraga is delightful!

Tottori, Japan(Zone 9a)

Thank you Todd. This saxifraga is my favorite and you can enjoy
to see it's variegated leaves all season without flowers.

Buggycrazy is selling Colchicum agrippinum, 24/$12. Small bulbs, it says, but it seems like a most excellent price.

Goldenfish, nice pics. Does that Saxifrage send stolons out like our Strawberry begonia houseplant (Saxifraga stolonifera)?

Tottori, Japan(Zone 9a)

Leftwood,

This Saxifrage doesn't send stolons out. They are propagated by division or seed.

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

That is an excelelnt price...overseas, C. agrippinum sell for $10 and up per bulb. Amazing considering how fast they multiply.

another happy lurker here - thanks, all

Another fabulous selection of plants - thanks for posting.
