After deciding to switch to organic, locally produced meat, I have been driving 30 min each way to the nearest whole foods store and bringing home packets of frozen organic beef, bison, turkey, and chicken. Today I received an unsolicited phone sales call from an outfit claiming to represent local organic farmers and offering to bring organic, frozen meats and poultry to my door, using a refrigerated delivery truck. I'm heartened that someone has recognized that there's a market for organic meat, but using a big, refrigerated truck to drive around delivering all over the place seems to make no environmental sense. I turned down the offer, but now I'm wondering if I did the right thing.
