You all know I don't do annuals. But I saw outside a restaurant today a gorgeous plant -- a vine -- with leaves that look like ficus benjamina -- dark and shiny -- and flowers that looked like morning glories, but with a longer throat. Any ideas what it could have been? It looked tropical.
Noobie question about an annual [or tropical?]
Was it mandevilla, Happy? That is tropical but you can overwinter it indoors. They're not hard to find either. I see them every year at Walmart and Lowes.

Yup, I think that's it! Thanks! The only difference from the photos on plant files that you linked to is that the plant I saw had smooth leaves. It was really pretty. Is it easy to root, do you know?
I don't know if it's easy to root but it's easy to find large plants and they're not expensive. If you don't see them at a local garden shop, try a florist who also sells potted plants. It would be more expensive there, though.
Here's a thread on how to root them.

I'll tuck that away for next year. I have too much this year I haven't planted . . .
