Flavor of many varieties is mild and somewhat insipid to many people. Black/dark fruited varieties will stain. Mature trees produce a lot of fruit over a period of time each year, so if not sited properly can be a mess. Keep in mind that birds spread the fruit as well and mulberry trees will attract a lot of birds when fruiting. Trees of many types can get pretty large.

Note that white, red and black mulberry trees, when referring to the species of the trees, do not necessarily mean that is the color of the fruit. If you choose to get one, be sure to know the species of tree as well as the color/type of fruit. (In other words, Morus alba does not mean the tree produces white fruit. Morus alba, the white mulberry, normally produces dark red/black fruit). Some species of mulberry are not suitable for some climates in the states, so a bit a research as to what does well in your area, as well as taste, is a good idea.
