Calling SDB fans....need an id on a distinctive iris

West Bend, WI

Hi,

Got this iris two years ago from a commercial source. It first bloomed this year and was not the cultivar it should be. I went back to catalog at the source and looked at their entire SDB listing trying to figure out what it actually was. No luck. Of course I could contact the grower but I have a feeling they won't know and also this is too busy a time of year to be asking them for an id. If I can't figure it out I may contact them in autumn. I was thinking this pattern looks like Violet Lulu but there is no reason they would have been growing a cultivar that old in their commercial stock.
Is there something more modern in this pattern that anyone knows of? Thanks for any help.

Contacting the grower would be the best idea. they like to know if there have been mistakes. There have been quite a few of the luminata pattern since Violet Lulu. The picture doesn't look like a full lumi, but may come from that pattern.

also, they usually require you to contact them within a very short period, say a couple weeks of bloom to claim one is not as named. Most will refund or replace. This many months later, they may wish you well and blow you off. If it is distinctively different from anything else they grow, and they usually grow at least three times the varieties in any one years' catalogue, they maybe can ID it.
