I'm kinda of a newbie I been registered for 1 year, but never really get to visit this site, because I had no were to put flowers...... and I am looking for some Iris's I finally got all my big huge pine trees cut down out of front yard, and had them stump grinders, ( been waiting 6 yrs for this to happen)....I just purchased some iris's on e-bay, but boy you can go broke......so if anybody has some that they would like to share with me, so I can make my yard look great please let me know. Thanks in advance
Wanted: any Iris's for postage
I have 3 different irises I dug this year to clear a spot that was overgrown.
Send me a D-mail with your address and I will ship them to you so you can
get them into the ground early. Don't worry about postage--you can reward
me with pics of your beds next year. If you do well with donated rhizomes, you
can send a few to me later when you dig and divide them.
oh my Oldgarden rose, those are lovely.
Is the white one "Iris Albicans" Sure looks like it, and that is from 1860.
the other two are gorgeous too!!!
*jealous*
:D
Mrs_Ed--the white was speculated to be 'florentina orris' by another contributor.
There is a cluster of probably 4'x8' growing on a back lot of my former employer
of which I recently retired after 43 years. I could probably dig 50 or more
rhizomes if anyone wanted some. I have 6 blooming and 4 more recently
started so I have no need for more. They are in a spot where a truck can run
thru them or could have a load of scrap dumped upon them so diggging them
would not violate the principle of "leaving wild in the wild". Let me know if
you would like some. I only have 4 or five of the bitone browns but I will
have a lot of them next year. (my major dig year).
I still have several of the 'pass the wine' but they are fairly common. I am
into the oldies now.
Make you the same deal as lynnerobin.
Oldgardenrose i love the purple one. Could i trade you or perhaps send postage for one?
I'm into the old ones too. I am just getting started in my iris after swearing them off because I lost so many to borers. Now I'm on top of that problem and am fortunate to have several coming from another DGer. I hope to have lots to offer next year as well. I just got a small Moonlit Sea this year that I hope will do well enough to offer in 2 or 3 years. I'd like to find a Brown Lasso and Chantilly next.
I would just LOVE one of the white ones, and would be happy to have a wine one too.
Thanks
Shellsort--If you are referring to the last oldie, I do not have any dug
rhizomes. I may be able to help you next year when they bloom in
their wild location. I could dig some now but I could not guarantee
they are what you want. They are naturalized in more than one spot
but there are also some pale yellow oldies. The purple oldie is very
common here. I saw one place along a township road that must have
been 50 feet long. Public property=no dig. Mine came from my now
former employer. They were planted in my bed last year so they are
not ready to be dug.
Mrs_Ed--Dmail your address and I will send you some.
I am happy to wait :)
I could kick myself because this year at the Iowa roundup I forgot a whole BAG of misc NOID iris! someone else gladly took them though.
Oldgardenrose, sent you a Dmail!
You know for years I carried them commerically and never sold hardly any of them...finally got rid of them and now everyone wants as I had all the ones mentioned.
D
But you can not keep them all.
that's funny D! Well probably not back then though! I know that I certainly do not have room for every one that I like, because they all are really cool.
Yup and sometimes it is hard to decide which ones must be thinned to make room for newer iris.
Plus next year I will also carry Japanese iris, and Spuria iris as well.
D
I like the oldies because few people have them around here. I have also
found the oldies are more resistant to diseases. Possibly the hybridizers
are breeding out the traits of the oldies in order to get that one unique
mutant. In any case, I like the few I have found and am glad to share
them with others.
I know what you mean. I just hate the idea that some of these iris could be LOST! If you go to http://www.hips-roots.com/ you see some pictures only from catalogs way back when. I wonder if that means that these types are now really rare?
LynneRobin, I think I can send you one that i think is Mme Henri Cayeaux. I am getting a known variety to grow next to it. It is very prolific. I only have a few at my house, but there are tons at a family farm. It is a good performer.
The old irises which are resistant to diseases are still around, those which were not have been lost. The same thing will happen to the current ones. Also not every iris will grow in every climate. Just have to find out which plants work for you, old or new.
I have 2 high quality fresh old whites. I dug one this am to clear space
for a peony. I got 9 good ones off a small double rhizome I planted
last summer--4 to be mailed, 3 I potted until next spring and 2 for the
first person saying gimme. I also have probably 20 'pass the wine'
that have been dug for about a week for anyone wanting some. I
potted the old browns due to lack of interest.
Can I put my hand up for them. I too am just getting started. I ordered a few this year to be shipped starting this month.
I would love some pass the wine, if you have any left...and I like the 'browns', too. I rescued a couple of irises last year so I loved looking through the photos on the link. One of them looks a lot like Blue Shimmers on the link. I also work at an elementary school and would love to share anything that others don't want....Be glad to send postage:-)

I would love some for postage and I will be happy to share once any of the named ones I am receiving start to multiply. Mine will mostly be older one since that is what I can afford!!
Oldgardenrose, I'd love some Pass the Wine as well as some of the old browns. I'll gladly pay postage and any other cost you incur. If you have any left, let me know and I'll dmail my address to you.
Thanks,
Gary
I can't wait for the day when I have a ton of iris to share too!!!!
Marieortiz--you are the winner. Dmail me your address and I will ship
them to you asap. Don't worry about postage. It is more trouble trying
to exchange a couple of dollars than it is worth. Post a pic of your
garden next year. You get the 2 old whites and 2 new 'pass the wine'.
Thank you oldgardenrose. I can send postage once it gets here. I do not want it to cost you to send it. I appreciate it and I will post pictures hopefully next spring when everything will hopefully be blooming. I have 4 or 5 others coming so it shoudl be quite the show.
Tggfisk & figaro52--dmail your address. I can send each of you a half dozen.
I need to get rid of them. Browns are gone til next year. They are special
and I can't take a chance giving these away til the others bloom next year.
I gave most of my spares to a buddy and more to my wife's pastor.
I will have a major surplus next year if the ones in the ground bloom as
well as this year.
wait, you still have me down for the whites and whatever, yes???
lol. well THAT was kind of a frantic post of mine!!!
Just got back to my computer (errands) and thought maybe I had missed my opportunity. I send a Dmail yesterday but have not heard back.
:D
Oldgardenrose, thanks so much! I have sent you my address via dmail.
Mrs_Ed--you are in the open box drying from the bleach bath.
Sending tomorrow.
DaLoveRat--No dmail from you for address yet. These things
are going like hot cakes in January. Don't lose your place in
line. You are in the box and ready to ship.
Sending to both of you 2 old whites and 2 new 'wines'. Very
nice rhizomes.
yay!!!
Mmm, hot cakes!!!!!
