Do any of you who live in colder zones have or know someone who is growing and has been fairly successful with Japonese plums and Asian pears?
Cold hardy Japonese Plum and Asian Pears
I would look at the Fedco catalog, nearly everything they sell is hardy in zone 4.

I've never heard of the Fedco Catalog. Is it online?
Yes, see the page below which has the link.

Superior, La Crescent, and Purple Heart are three of the hardy plums I would say are definitely worth growing - I am growing them in Maryland even though I don't need such hardy varieties.

edit: I remembered there is also St. Lawrence Nurseries, another good source for hardy plants.

Scott, thanks so much for the Fedco sight. I will look at it more in depth as I have time. I like the fact that it is for colder climates.
