Went Lily Crazy

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

After the Stargazers last year, I went totally nuts over lilies (put in 100 bulbs). The Asians are blooming now and waiting for the Orientals. The colors are so beautiful.

Oh my, what a display you'll have ~ and just wait until next year!

Just wait till next year, those Asiatics are really going to explode for you!! :) We'll want pictures!!! :)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I will keep the camera handy and will look forward to it. My Stargazers really multplied from last year, so I'm looking forward to their blooms this year. They were so over the top, so I can't even imagine what will happen this year.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

It's fun, isn't it? :) keep the pictures coming!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

These bloomed the first time last year, couple blossoms each. I can hardly wait!
Another bunch in the cutting garden is really going nuts!

They look so wonderfully healthy. Anticipation is getting to me too!

Way to go Bernie!!! :) Moby, don't you be picking on Dave!! :) LOL

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Your yard looks very pretty, Irishsoul. You've done a nice job!

Howdy Bernie.

Hi again Steve. Thank you so much! Truly enjoying the nature preserve we are creating. It is so worth every single moment digging in the earth to create something that you can enjoy for years to come. I think there should be a forum created to showcase everyone's gardens. I know we see a lot of individual flowers, but it would be so nice to see the whole picture.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Ha, to do that most of us would have to have all of our gardens weeded at least once this season and with the way the weather is shaping up - up here in Iowa, I'm beginning to doubt that I'll ever get to spend any quality time out in the gardens.... But here is a shot of one of mine that is 3/4 the way weeded... I just won't tell you which quarter isn't weeded yet. :) LOL

In two days it's going to be June and we still have lilacs blooming here. The dwarf Korean ones haven't started to bloom yet.....

Pasco, WA(Zone 6b)

irissoul,
We did have threads last year and the year before on the perennials forum where we all posted shots of our whole gardens instead of just the individual photos. Maybe I'll go over to the perennial forum and start a thread and see if we can get it going again. We had MANY contributors and many beautiful garden photos! Sounds like a plan, huh?!?

Very pretty, Diann....coming along nicely!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks Steve, yeah, and now I have to work on the other 10 or 12 or so.... :) LOL

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I have grass coming up in several of mine. I will have to go out and work on them this weekend in 95 degree heat. It is a never ending battle LOL

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh, you got that right. :) I need to just get through all mine just once and then I can go back and do clean up.... It's supposed to be nice here this weekend, so....

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

lovely yard Ticker. My preston lilac is just starting to bloom. Everything is nice and big and green though this year. The clematis that stop growing in the heat have been climbing to the sky this year!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

As long as you want garden pics, here's another corner of my house. A clump of lilies in the corner.

Here's some of the last tulips. The plants with the markers came from Iowa Round Up this spring.

Thanks guys. :) That is the only one I have reasonably close to being weeded. I need to spray for creeping charlie, that stuff is growing in bumper crops this year, along with the bed straw/catch weed. With all this wet weather it's hard to stay ahead of it.

Bernie, you put me to shame, your gardens are so weed free... and so beautiful. :)

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

wonderful garden shots!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I just point the camera in the right direction!

We got a ton of rain a short while ago. Hope it didn't wash out the hillsides.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

WOW! What beautiful shots! Thank you so much for sharing!

We know about the weeding part. We started in March and still going at it. We have about a 1/2 acre, but fortunately only 1/2 of that is gardens. Once we get finished, we will have to start all over again. Never ending process. We both work long hours during the week, so we can only get at it during the evening and then on Sat & Sun. We have to stop about 11 AM because of the sun, then start in again after 5 PM. So many weeds and not enough time.

Sherry, that sounds like a wonderful plan. Is there anyway to add a group of pictures instead of one at a time? I just love to see other gardens and of course to get ideas for my own.

This is the bed that borders the east side of our front yard. I finally untied the fairy from the tree and am letting her preside over the garden.

This is my shade bed that borders the west side of our yard. The Old Fashion Bleeding Hearts were spectacular this year.

Ooooh, very nice Sue!!! Your fairy looks a lot happier not tied up. :)

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

She does seem to be happier untied! Thanks Diann. I was just looking at the picture and noticed that I posted the one with the birdbath still in the bed......I've moved it to another location and Miss Fairy has the bed almost to herself, she doesn't know it, but there is a little baby sleeping in the bed.

Do you ever wonder why some plants won't grow where you plant them, but they will happily grow 10 feet over? I planted the same number of columbines on the south end of that shade bed as I did the north end and now several years down the time line I only have columbine on the north half, but it is happily growing in the south half of the east bed!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

I love columbine!! I've got it self sowing everywhere. It's so cool!! That and Flax, I'd be lost without those guys...

Did you get nasty storms last night? I fell asleep about the time they should have hit around here... Everything still seems to be intact...

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

I really don't know, I must have slept thorough them if we did. It was storming this morning and quite a few plants show rain and wind damage.

This is what I saw when I looked out the back door this morning.

Nasty storms here ~ lost power for the third time this week.

silver spring, MD(Zone 7a)

We're under a tornado watch here. I'm going to cut and bring in all my blooming peonies, roses, and irises. At least I'll be able to enjoy them in the basement. We also have a massive thunderstorm heading our way. I can't wait to move back to the East Coast. All we get is hurricanes there.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Sue, what a beautiful sight to wake up to. ;) Very nice.

Moby, we just went out and bought a generator... I hope we don't have to use it, ever, but I doubt that we'll be that lucky... Ice storms have been hard on us in the past couple years.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

LLILY: what a beautiful garden. Don't think I would ever go anywhere. I would just have to sit there all day. Hope everyone made it through the storms safely. We don't seem to get a lot of rain this time of year. Just wildfires. Luckily none to near us and no drifting smoke our way.

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks all, glad everyone made it through the storms ok.

This is what the back yard looked like after the rain left and the sun was winking at me.

We had some nasty storms here last night but no tornado thankfully. Ticker, seems like Iowa has gotten all the nasty stuff in the last couple years. Love the garden pics! Moby, you lost power more than we did! We lost it last Sunday storm, but not since, and that is pretty good for boonie town here...

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Weather hasn't really been very good for anyone anywhere lately. I guess they weren't kidding when they said "Don't mess with Mother Nature."
