(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

and July will go here... whenever I get around to it :o)

we just seem to chatter soooo much these days that I have to update the thread every other day! LOL!

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Howdy Howdy All... don't mind the groaning or moaning; its just me, trying to do everything in one day. thought I'd check in while I'm relaxing. I was just about to check out this thread first thing this morning with a HOT cup of coffee and my neighbor dropped by, darnit. (Dont people call anymore before they drop in? ) She ended up running errands with me and before I knew it, it was 1:30 and nothing on my to do list was done.

Anjl, I'm sorry...that was a stupid question. (You do know I have a quota each day for asking them, right?) I think I saw a picture you posted two threads ago (the long ones that we start over again, and at the time, and I could have sworn it had a roof on it. But when I looked at the pics you posted today, it made sense.

Santee....I got Mr Frog today.....He is so precious. I cant wait to find him a new home. As soon as I do, I'll post a pic. He really was cuter than I imagined. Thank you for being so sweet to us.

Lorraine, I must say young lady, that you deserve a prize for the way you wrapped all those seed packages!! I was impressed at the colors...the wrapping.......but (grinning real big while I say this) I COULDN"T get into them!!!! LOL LOL. I mean, they were triple wrapped in tape. I'd think I had one corner opened up, but NOO, the other end would be taped too. I'd get the tape stuck on my fingers, and then seeds would be caught in the tape. You made sure those seeds werent going anywhere. I kept thinking, wait till I can tease Lorraine =)

Anna, hang out with us as much as you can. Lean on your friends and dont be bashful about talking to them. (or us) I didnt tell anyone for 3 weeks, then I turned to margaritas and bloody marys....that didnt help. I was ashamed and scared and so pissed off at them because nobody knew it was happening, they just called us in one by one (321 of us) and told us were laid off, and escorted us out of the building like we were criminals. We didnt even get to pack up our desks; the managers did that and called us when they were ready to be picked up. All we could do was get out purses. Getting laid off ain't for the weak.

So....what did I miss? I'm really impressed with all these tipsy pots. I cant do mine for awhile. but I will have one some day.

Anjl, I'll try to do the frog swap.

Santee, CA(Zone 9a)

Hello Nuts!!!

It's raining in California!! YAY!! My plants will all be so happy :o)

Lorrane- Thank you for the info/links in the last thread, those will come in handy.

Fifi- I'm so glad you got Seed Froggie, so sorry he was a little late ;o) Deffinately try to take a pic when you find his home..LOL!! He is just so darn cute!!! I just don't answer my door when I'm home..LOL!! In fact the mail lady knows I'm home and will come to the side of my house and yell for me when she has a package :o) oh that's bad isn't it??

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

OMG...that was the essay version, wasnt it? LOL it didnt look that long when I scolled down. Sorry girls

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Please pray for rain here. I watered my new flower garden with a watering can. my bright idea to put it there and the hose wont reach

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I know ,Nannie ,about the packets. For some reason those just didn't seem taped good enough, so I over did. Meant to tell you to just cut across the top. Sorry, I hate it when I get one like that, then I send you some!!! lol That is not a good thing to do!!!

So, be warned, if you get one of my packets, just cut er up.!!!

By the wayh, I've been begging our little Angl to put up a new thread, and does she. NOOOOOOO Then some one else asks and she gets it up in two minutes. Brat.

So, we've just given up putting what this swap is about.? Lazy, lazy people!!! lol

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Lorraine.....its ok. I was teasing. Honest. that's better than losing seeds. like I did with the radishes and leeks.

I got SO much accomplished today. in my veggie garden AND the yard and flower beds.

i'll pay for it tonight......but it was worth it.

Does anyone have plans for the long weekend?

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

plans... 2 tippy pots, plant 90 caladium bulbs plant 30 begonias, put all the babies that are currently in the ghetto into their permanent beds, box up lorraines birdie houses so her grandkids dont think im an evil anjl, pour cement pad with DH, help DH build a arbor w/ gates, oh... I'm not doing much! LOL!

Santee, CA(Zone 9a)

Plans?? I just hope it stops raining so I can get some things done outside. I got seeds to plant darn it, and some bulbs too :o) Don't get me wrong we need rain here, but not over a 3 day weekend...mmmfff

I need to take the ribs out of the freezer so we can eat them...oops

Speaking of caladiums, I found some #1 on sale for 42 cents each. Don't ya'll want about a million.

Listen to this, since we are talking about bulbs. Member Angl had her bulb co op and we got our bulbs about a month ago.

Well, I'm outside today and there's this stuff blooming and I look close and it looks like clover with a purple center and a pink bloom. I couldn't figure out if it was a weed, but figured it was since there is a lot of different clover growing here.

Bout the time I got ready to pull it all up, I thought maybe I should find out what it was cause it was pretty. Anyway, turns out to be Oxalis I got from Miss Thing!!! I still don't believe it grew so fast. !!! I didn't even notice it till I noticed the pink. Anyway, they are coming up everywhere!! Yea!!!! Here's a picture Anjl, if you can see it good. Look at the lower right, hard to see, but it's there.

I need play to catch up ... lol ...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Welcome Brandy! We are the crazy mixed up gardeners! You'll love it here! :-) ;-)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Thank you... I love it already... :) I love all the projects and wide variety of things everyone talks about and the trading also. :) So, far its alot of fun :)

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Ya'll all be nice to Brandy, member, she's the one who has the same name as my daughter, and her family named her after the song I named my Brandy after!! Same age. How bout that. Funny how you find people , isn't it.?

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Welcome Brandy. I'm pretty new too. these gals will keep you laughing =) and make you feel like you've been here for years.

Anjl, girl, you need to slow down. all that stuff will be there tomorrow. You're supposed to stop and smell the roses.....not plant more =) I'm worn out reading your list

Me, I made a dessert for a graduation/b'bcue tonight Ive been invited to. later tonight I have to make slaw and a cake for our family b'bcue tomorrow. Yes, I usually do desserts ... thats why my bottom is so, errrrr.... plush, yeah, thats the word, =) LOL. I worked too hard yesterday. I'm taking it easy today.

The cemetary where my mom is buried at is having a memorial service in the morning. Everybody removes any old flowers, etc., then decorates their gravesites. My brother and grandparents are there as well. my dad is cutting some of her favorite roses to put in the vases that are attached to the headstone. sooooo its gonna be a quiet morning and then we're eating ribs and beer butt chicken. We dont really have a tradition for Memorial Day.

Whats every one else doing?

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Hey....if we're going to buy that house and gardens, can we do it look like this?

I love the idea of having multiple families gardening at the same place. that's very common in Europe. We (my parents...I was like 8 or 9) 'rented' garden space when we were in Germany and I used to love when we'd ride to the 'country'.

I'm going to try wrap my stakes for my beans like that. cool eh?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

It is entirely too hot. It's like a sauna. I just walked about 200 ft to hook up water hose and I had to change clothes when I got back, I swear water if dripping out there

I want to work outside, but can't change clothes every 2 minutes. Late yesterday I was gonna go walk around in the woods behind me cause I always throw seed out there and thought, I'll walk around out there. It's shady!!! Ever been to a tropical rain forest?
That's what it was, so much tree cover there is not air movement. Ithought I was going to be found 3 days later, dead from the heat.

One of the t's (that means twins, so when you see that you can conger up an image of 2 little 3 year olds who are totally different), calls it the jungle. (You know, Dora and Diego, anyway, I'm with him. I think I'm gonna get some real tropical things and see what they do out there.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I love the idea of the community gardens. They make good use of their land, huh? We are so used to having acres if we want it, it's hard to imagine getting in the car and working your garden. But, think how much fun that would be. We could all plant and visit and weed and visit. lol I know lots of Apt. complexes have those. I think sometimes I should move into one in town and it would be easier up keep for me, but then I look outside and I can't. I'd go nuts. But, If there was a community garden, wouldn't be so bad.
Nahhhhh, still don't want to. Want to hear birds and watch cats chase things up trees and see bobcat eyes looking at me. Oh and finding where a snake shed it skin right by the back door

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL ... thank you Lorraine ... Oh yeah ... my middle name is in Lorraine's street address also ... lol ...

Wow t sounds like everone is busy busy this weekend. I hope you all have a great time this weekend.

We aren't doing much here this weekend. The Hubby has to work. I just found Hibiscus seeds my grandmother gave me several months ago. I may plant some of them. I'm hoping they'll grow... then I'll share if they grow :) There has to be at least 100+ seeds.

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Welcome Brandy. You'll like it here. Lots to do and learn. And of course this thread is the perfect place to relax and come for a little comic relief!!

Lorraine if you are going to look for some Tropicals, I suggest Burried Treasures. Chris the owner helped with the massive co op and all the stuff I got from him just took off like crazy!! Plus he's really nice too and good about answering questions.

I got to work outside for almost an hour before I caught Zeke kicking our poor cat so he had to come in for time out. I can tolerate him pulling plants, but not kicking our poor docile Spoons.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Thank you Jojoringer I already feel welcome especially now :) I hope Spoons is ok ... How old is Zeke?

Lorraine what kind of Tropicals are you looking for?
If you were closer I have banana trees that produce the sweetest bananas I have ever eaten .... The postage would cost alot to send you a baby ; even the root bulbs are heavy... I haven't figured out the seed thing on the bananas. I know bananas have seeds within the fruit... but do they have them in the flowers??? Hmmm ...
I also have the cut leaf philodendrums growing wild and flowering ... The root bulbs on those are huge also ... I have no idea if they seed ... I haven't seen berries on them that people have told me they get ...
I also have Elephant ears (taros) that flower ... I have a ton of those especially in my very back yard...
The woods behind your place sounds like my very back yard .... minus the bob cats.
Its very wooded yet there are banana trees and taros growing everywhere.
The taros grow great in the shaded areas of the woods. The taros are about 6 foot tall right now, they'll get up to 8 to 10 foot tall.
the hubby & I f its raining when were out there (they get around 7 foot tall ) we stand under them to keep dry.

Unfortunatelly we have invasive Elderberry and morning glories and wisteria that is trying to take over everything ... The kudzu has shown up also .... LOL ... its all very pretty though ... maybe I need to look up how to make elderberry jam and wine ... lol

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Yeah, Lorraine, me too. Walking to the mailbox in your pj's because you can hear when a car is coming and you know you'll have time to get in the house. LOL. or seeing deer or a bear. they cut hay yesterday afternoon on 3 sides of me....It smells sooo good. but I told the guy on the tractor, its like they cut my privacy fence down.

It was 59 when I went to wallyworld at 9am but its 71 now. Its way hot in the sun.

can I ask a sunflower question? What do I need to with these 'leggy' sunflowers? pull them out? transplant them somewhere else? I think they arent getting enough sun. My dad says they wont survive in a pot... how big of a pot have y'all been putting them in. this is around a 3 gallon one

Thumbnail by nanniepb
Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Ugh elderberry. We had it in Louisiana. All we could do was just mow out our littl island to keep the stuff at bay. It literally made a wall around our yard. I see it growing around here, but none near my property, I guess the yaupon outgrows it, not that its any better LOL

Oh about Zeke, you'll hear a lot about him if you hang out here LOL, he just turned 2 in April and is a tue wild man! I'm thinking of writing abook about his exploits. Spoons is fine, he's pretty tuff (has to be around here)

I'm hoping Zeke takes a nap soon. I got mulch to spread!!

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

this is for Lorraine too....she said send a picture of 'red robin' my tiller.

ummm...i'm really not like Minnie Pearl, leaving the price tag on. I keep forgetting to bring scissors.

oh yeah....thats my sunflower pot behind there. I thought it was plenty big enough to support them.

Joey, yes, you DO need to get a journal and write down the funny, cute stuff he says and does, even the bad stuff for when he gets older, so he can read it and also for when you forget, like me!!

Isn't it funny how resilient animals are with kids? How patient they can be? I watch my great nephew on an average 3 days a week, and my dog cannot wait for him to get here, looks for him while he's gone. This week Blake learned how to use the retractable leash and wanted me to let him walk my dog. I'd look outside and he'd have about 6 inches of leash tugging and pulling, and the dog was fine. if that was me, he'd be trying to pull me across the road.

(AnnaRuth) Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hey guys, First of all let me respond to Nannie....That is so how they did us....Walked us to get our purses, took my badge and punched the clock for me. Any time someone loses a job it's pretty devastating. This one is particularly so for me....see if you agree. About a year ago we alternated weekends. One of the girls got soused on Saturday night and didn't work Sunday. The new director(who was sent there to chop heads) had a hissy. So....I volunteered to work every weekend plus Wednesday 13 hours a day. After a few months I went to my immediate supervisor and told her I just felt uneasy about the whole deal. What if the weekend shift was eliminated
would I be back in the pack with the rest of the grunts? Oh, not to worry she said. Twice more I did this...Basically, same answer. If you come back during the week, there will be too many people and ya'll be have to be sent home every day. You'll get to keep your hours this way. On Monday they took the girl who was at top pay and told her her job had been eliminated. They also took a guy who transports patients that afternoon. Word was that that s**thead that poses as a director was going to bring me back on first. So when I went in Wed. I had no clue. About 1:10 he called me into his office and the ax fell. Now keep in mind that I have senority over one other person that they kept. And she is a convicted felon. Course I would never rat on her, because she is my friend and it would be harder for her to find a job than me. (I think, she's 35, I'm 55) Oh, and did I mention that I was only 8 cents below the top paid girl. Sounds a bit fishy to me.
Anyhoo, I took out all my 401K or whatever it's called now, 2 years ago and gave it to my boys. So guess what mama has saved.....nada!
As of the 31st I'll have no insurance and I have multiple medical problems and lots of meds...AnnMarie, do you have any advice on Cobra?
So that's it in a nutshell. I've just stayed in the bed with my little blue happy pills. I know I'll snap out of it, but right now I feel like I have nothing left inside.
Joey, I don't want to hold ya'll up on the seed swap. As you know mine from Hazzards were a disaster. I can order more if it won't hold you up. If you have most of them in, I'll just bow out.
Thanks for letting me vent. I guess it's therapeutic to write it down. Thanks for your concern. I'm really touched.

WHOO HOOOOOOOO! I am SOOOOO EXCITED!!!

It's RAINING!!!! HIP HIP HOORAY!!!

My yard is brown and crunchy when you walk on the grass ... err ... weeds. I just got finished fertilizing all my garden beds by hand with a plastic 2 gallon watering can. Made 16 trips with that can and mixing my concoction up. I already saw the flowers perking up within 30 minutes! But they needed more water to soak that fertilizer in real good!

My dh comes home (he worked today) and asked me ... what died? I said WHAT??? He said it smells like something died. I laughed and laughed. I use fish emulsion and Bloom Booster together in the watering can and it does stink for about a day. I can put up with the smell because my plants will look great for the next 2-3 weeks and then I will do it again! :-)

Animals and kids ... nothing cuter! I hear ya Lorraine about living near wildlife. I love where I am at. I even tolerate the undesirable critters like fruit rats and spiders. I live in the middle of a neighborhood, but I have vacant lots to the west and north of my property. All the trees are overgrown in those lots, so I feel like I am out in the middle of the forest. I only have a standard residental lot. But with all my trees, bushes, and flowers ... it looks like a jungle these days.

I, too, go out behind my privacy fence and it's a bit eerie back there. I could be attacked by a bobcat or something else and noone would ever know until my body was discovered.

OMG! It is raining soooo hard and the wind is whipping. I always worry about tornadoes when it gets like this! But we need the rain soooo ... bring it on!!! I am laughing so hard cause it is torrential rains! I can't believe it! WHOOOOOO HOOOOO!

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Gin,
I'm so sorry! Big business often forgets that it's the people that make a company. Profits may improve over a short period by treating employees like property, but in the long run, it just doesn't work. You can't win employee loyalty with tactics like that and without happy employees a business won't last long. I guarantee you that the powers that be will realize their mistake and the director will be the one to pay. S#$# rolls down hill and the ones that originally sent down the orders for the "housecleaning" will never admit their mistake so the lower ranks will go. Its a vicious cycle and I have seen it before.
Don't worry about the swap at all, there is plenty of time. I have only received 4 packets I think? So don't worry about that. Just send me the ones you have and I will go from there. You definately don't need to stress over it. :o)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Anna Ruth - {{{{{HUGS}}}}} We must've been posting at the same time. I'm sooo sorry about what happened to you. I can tell you that the lay-off was probably all about the money. If you were one of the top paid, then that is why they let you go instead of someone else. Now what I don't understand is how they could get away with that considering you had seniority. Were you union? If so, I'd go talk to the union rep and see about legal representation. If not, then I am not sure what kind of action you can take if any. Cobra premium is more expensive, but it might get you through until you can find another job.

I wouldn't be surprised if they call you back. But keep in mind that they may want to pay you less. That's what they did at the company I worked at. Eventually, most everyone came back, but we were all making less. But at least we had jobs and benefits. So keep all that in mind. Can you draw unemployment?

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

lol@ zeke and kitty... my Kody loved to torment our kitty Dusty. see, Kody loved squirt guns, and Dusty of course being the kitty that he was... hated water! Kody thought it was the funniest thing to stalk kitty and squirt him at the most unsuspecting times. I kept warning Kody that some day Dusty was gonna get him :o) and then I just stayed out of it. On day, kody was napping on my bed and Dusty jumped up on the bed, looked at me, and then walked over to where my unsuspecting lil toddler was sleeping and scratched him across his nose and both lips! then he looked at me, walked over to the edge of the bed and watched as Kody woke up screaming from pain. Kody asked "why Dusty do dat?!" and I just told him.... "I told you he was gonna get you!" Now both Kody and Dusty are 11 years old and they are great pals :o) they have an 'understanding' and Kody doesnt torment him anymore LOL!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Anna! I am so glad you are back here with your friends! ((hugs)) dont stray too far! And YES, Use this thread and us to vent and talk and whatever you need, talking about it even getting angry about it is all part of the healing process. AND we will all get to WHOO HOO with you when you get that better job! the one where you get paid more to work less :o)
I too sometimes worry about my job. I am the top paid at my office, and paid alot more than any of the other employees, of course I am a boss too, but also a producer just like them. every time the big co states there is going to be a rate decrease, it means my boss makes less (30% cut in pay last year alone!) and then I start stressing that he is going to cut out my position. But on the other hand, I only work part time and I produce over twice as much as anyone in the office.... so he would be much smarter to eliminate my position and allow me to just go back to producing :o) I guess there is always a fear that some dumb young person will come in and produce like I do at a lower wage ! LOL. I have pretty much decided if he does lay me off, I'll just retire instead of continuing on. I really dont want to work full time again! LOL!

As for Cobra, I would definitely check into other PPO/HMO first and see what your rates would be. Here in CA it is cheaper to pay HMO for a private plan, than to pay Cobra. But this varies state to state.

Just know that we are here for you ALWAYS and will listen and hug and cry with you, but also cheer you on and rejoice with you once you get through this, and you WILL get through it! :o)

((hugs))

Stay gone two minutes and there's a book waiting. I gotta go back and read it again!!!

Zeke is the groups kid. We all keep up with Zeke. He keeps his mom in line. I think they call kids like him, "hell on wheels"? (WE have one here, Ian is 3 and took the training wheels off his bike all by himself and is ripping around the yard with out them. He's 3, how does that happen) So my aim is to get the two of them together and see how long everyone can survive.!!!!
He is somethin' else and we don't want his mom to hurt him. LOL Why do kids torture cats? Ian's favorite thing to do is pee on Chief and little ole chief is so sweet.

Gin, you be sure to come here to vent. Losing a job is about as bad as it gets, especially when you are the one bringing in all the money. Please don't feel like we don't want to hear about it, cause we're all gonna need to vent at one time or the other.

I have a friend and her husband got laid off cause he was a year from retirement, had been there for ever, made a pretty good amt of money, and they wanted to get someone to do his job cheaper!!

He and another supervisor sued , got their jobs back and all their back pay. Course it was pretty plain to everyone what had happened. In your case, they probably have their rear ends covered. Make s me so mad. You've had enough happen!!! Don't need this.

Isn't it awful, the better job you do, the more apt you are to get laid off, cause they don't want to pay the moneyh. I will never understand going through all you do to train someone, get them through the ranks and then want to start all over with someone else.!!! What a waste.

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

Anna Ruth, I’m so glad you checked in, and as the others have said feel free to come vent, we are here for you. I just wanted to mention one other thing about cobra vs private health insurance…it sounds like you have some ongoing health issues, and this would very likely mean that many health insurance companies would deny you due to pre-existing medical condition clauses. I had this happen myself. It is really, really common to get your application turned down for something as simple as asthma, so you might want to submit your other applications asap so you can still elect cobra if you are denied private insurance. Hang in there, things will get better again!

Santee, CA(Zone 9a)

Hello Nus!!

Brandy- Welcome!!! I've heard the story about you name from Lorraine, I think that is so neat :o) Now of course it's getting really interesting that your middle name is part of her street address. Anna- So glad to see you back here. We were a little worried about you. I sure hope you are starting to feel a little better :o) And yes, vent here I know I won't mind and besides this is like a "home thread" so we are all here if you need a shoulder to cry on or even just a person to scream at... that does help soetimes :o)

Joey- Zeke is such a character.. the more you write about him the more I realize that Christopher really wasn't a little sneaky one like Zeke :o) I love hearing the stories that you share about his latest "adventures"...LOL!! Are you still going forward with making a countertop tippy pot?? I wanna see what everyone elsewho is gonna make one comes up with.

Becky- Please take the rain away from here... it's still yucky outside and I wanted to get things planted darn-it...mmmfff My DH freaks out when I use dry fish fertilizer too, well actually I do too, I can't even touch dry cat food or the fish food at that..I know I know I have issues ;o)

Loks like the sun might come out for a bit to day, I guess I'll fold some laundry and then try to get something plangted!!
