i have to take pics of the pond and give the water garden forum an update so if anyone has any ideas that woul be great,i would love them compact and cascading as well i have alot of the liner to cover so i would love to figure out what would grow in between the rocks and cover maybe about 3' of the pond liner? thxs for all your help

Pretty well any plants that are suited to your climate, and to the sun or shade in that particular spot would likely do just fine.

Do you have a picture of the area you are trying to cover? There are many plants that will grow here especially if you get sun and shade. Will have a think....

i agree - a photo would be quite helpful. It sounds like you want to
plant something at the edge, between rocks (where it will get access
to the soil?) and then grow over the liner for 3'? So no access to
soil, just folliage hanging over 3'?

Right now I'm enjoying soapwort (Saponaria ocymoides) bloom

And Candytuft is another cascader that's pretty easy (Iberis sempervirens)

Of course, phlox subulata is another lovely spring bloomer & it seems
to fit what you are looking for...

Sedums require very little soil and are easy too. I don't know that they'll
grow over the liner to cover 3' though.

Give us more clues and maybe we can come up with some thing else.
