Arilbreds for 2008
Beautiful, Anita! I just love the look of the arilbreds. Do you have any other regeliabreds (or regelias) other than High Sierra Snow? I would love to try more RBs here.
Laurie
all are beautiful ,
Child Song, rings my chimes the loudest
i have killed so many i had to vow not to try any more they
do not care for my Oklahoma garden
LOL
Beautiful! I'm trying a few here in my garden; can't wait to see if they bloom this year.
Beautiful pictures and beautiful arilbreds, Anita. I hope some day I can grow as many arilbreds as you and also take such good pictures.
Wow you have some beauties!
I am excited for several will be blooming for me this year and they are not supposed to grow in Maine. Possibly tomorrow Turkish Topaz will bloom, got two buds on it and is turning yellow at the tips. Will be my first Aril to bloom when it does.
Lost Concerto Grosso and Byzantine Art. Not bad really. Not when Loudmouth, Shiek, Code Talker, Turkish Topaz, Honey Not Tonight, Prince Thou Art and a few others are all budded up. All but Turkish Topaz was planted last year so I am very surprised to see buds.
Outstanding Anita! Just beautiful. These are so elegant and regal, even the names are very sophisticated. It's hard to pick a favorite, but i do love Persian Padishaw and Jacob's Well a whole lot. And nice lighting for the photos. I love them shot on overcast or rainy mornings when they really glow out in the garden. lovely.
My heart skips a beat for Arilbreds! CHILD SONG is a must for me!
Great photos, Anita!!!

Margie you have great taste LOL
i wish i could grow it , high humidity here is a killer for my garden
along with my knack for killing all things at least once.
Thank you Tazzy. I see you have 'great taste' too. LOL
Arilbreds do pretty well here. I'm so glad! As a matter of fact - Walker Ross is doing a repeat bloom for me right now. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/61685/ It will even rebloom in the fall (..... Lady Mohr will rebloom in the fall/winter for me too).
Below is a photo of Lady Mohr taken indoors around Christmas time.
awesome
Prince of Egypt (Dyer) opened today. A seedling which was being tested in CO has been blooming for awhile. Older aril plants have stalks up. We have obviously lost Zwanenburg after having it for a number of yrs. & oh horror! probably lost Vera-Ruby. Yr.bk. came today, Isee I am going to read it when I am very alert.
Perry Dyer ?.
local iris guru in OK.
Beautiful. What is an RC?
Correct for Perry Dyer--iris OBG-
Great arils and great photos Anita.
Thank you for sharing
Mainer,
you asked what is an RC and I couldn't remember a definition for it, though I have seen it once before. It is not defined on the ASI web site along with all the other obscure acronyms that go with arils and arilbreds, so I will take a big guess and guess that it means Regelia cross. Regelia is one of the two main kinds ( species???, genus???) of arils. I suspect that when they cross two different Regelia they get an RC, but I don't know that for a fact. I know RB is used to denote the same.
Maybe one of our people who knows about Arils will inform us of its meaning. Anita? Do you know?
Betty
RC=regeliocyclus=regelia X oncocyclus
RB=regeliabred=regelia X bearded
RH=regelia hybrid=regelia X regelia
OG=oncogelia=oncocyclus X regelia
OB=oncobred=oncocyclus X bearded
OH=oncocyclus hybrid= oncocyclus X oncocyclus
OGB=oncogeliabred=oncocyclus x regelia x bearded
When + or - follows RB, OB, or OGB, it designates the percentage of aril genes relative to bearded genes in the plant. + indicates more than 1/2 aril genes. - indicates less than 1/2 aril genes. Without either + or -, the RB, OB, and OGB designations indicate exactly 1/2 aril and 1/2 bearded genes.

Thanks for letting us know what RC means. I didn't find it on the Aril Society Web site. Where did you find this definition?
Betty
It's printed in all of the AIS Registrations and Introductions booklets.
How do I get R & I books? I am a member of the ASI, but I just get the journal and the yearbook and the show book and the checklist. Is there someplace to buy their R&I books?
The R&Is and Checklists are published and sold by the AIS through their website storefront. You can find them here:
