Good Place for Natives?

Glen Rock, PA(Zone 6b)

Anyone know if there is a place that sells some of the more wild native plants somewhere in the Baltimore/DC/ or even best, South Central PA area? I'd like to get a few spicebush, and paw paws, and maybe even some anise. I know I can mail order them, but I sort of don't want to. :)

I answered my own question, and found Sylva Nursery right here in Glen Rock. One catch though, they sell wholesale not generally retail.

The do sometimes make exceptions though. This weekend, May 10 they are going to be down in Cockeysville MD, at Oregon Park, at some Music in the Woods or Music in the Park something something. If you call they can bring select items as well. They have their plants listed at their website, here http://www.sylvanative.com/ . They seem to carry a lot of wet-land stuff in addition to many of the more common natives.

If they don't have it, Carolina spicebush is pretty easy to find at a lot of nurseries.

If you do a search, there's a thread here in Mid Atlantic with a lot of regional sources for native plants. It was posted last year and reposted again when someone else asked about native plants more recently.

It's in Perry Hall, Maryland.

I know you said you don't want to mail order, but take a look at http://www.lazyssfarm.com/

Not everything they have is native, but they've got a decent selection and put a little note next to them if they are native.

They are located in Barboursville, VA. I just ordered from them and I'm really happy with the plants...I even ordered a Carolina spicebush. If you really want to, you can arrange to pick up plants from them on Fridays...seems like it might be a bit of a hike for you, though.

They had a lot of advice on how the plants are growing in this region, which I found helpful in making my choices.

Oh, one more that I've had a good experience with...also mail order, but they have open houses and can often be found at the various plant sales in the area: www.doylefarm.com located in Delta, PA. They seemed to know their stuff and I liked their plants. I've purchased plants from them at the DC Arboretum native plant sale.
